Well, I have three. None in a very decorative spot. The little cheapie is on the counter sort of hidden by the refrigerator. The nice big red one is on the floor next to the end cabinet between he kitchen and computer room. The third one, white and not so HERE I AM!! sets next to the toaster oven/microwave in that cubby.

I keep my medium sized red one in the front of the base cabinet next to the range. Also have a coffee can filled with baking soda there, with a bright red label FIRE. See no reason to have them out in the open. Just MHO.

I have one under my prep sink -- right across the aisle from the cooktop and ovens. I figured that was where I was most likely to need it and it would be easy to get to. Before we redid the kitchen, it was under the main sink.

Remember, fire is likely to start near the range. If your extinguisher is in the cabinet next to or under the fire, you won't want to open a door/drawer to get it. Better a bit of distance away from the fire so you can approach the fire at a safe distance. My big red one says stand back 8 feet. My little white one says stand back 6 feet. The little cheapie doesn't give a distance.

My fire extinquisher is mounted on the wall in the laundry room next to the door to the kitchen. It's about 7 feet from the range. It's also near the door to the garage.

I also have fire extinguishers in the master bedroom near the door and in the basement near the stairs.

My kitchen fire extinguisher is in the run of cannisters to the left of my stove and 2 1/2' away.
I also have extinguishers in both bedrooms.

Mine is also under the prep sink, which is near enough to the cooking appliances, but far enough for safety.
