My DD lives in Carrollton - I'd have a place to stay, if you organize a party.

It would have to be outdoors but I have an acre with lots of trees and a cabana for refreshments.

I'm in Arlington.....what fun it would be to get together! Esp this time of year (OK, gotta dodge rain showers, but what the heck...)

Pat, you're very close to me. We have our spring plant swap May 3rd but I'm open after that.

I'm moving to the Dallas area, but not exactly sure when. Hopefully soon.

I'm less then 45 minutes from Dallas.

OK - are we talking about a Mid-May thingy? What's the plan? Do we bring a project and work on it together? Count me in, but w/like to get it on my busy calendar. I might be able to get another lady who was w/me at Riana's workshop last year in P.V. She lives in Roaoke, and she takes lots of workshops in the Dallas area. She said the art center there has lots of opportunities for workshops in art. This could be fun, cuz I so enjoyed meeting forum members at the Riana workshop, and w/enjoy meeting more of you.

New to the forum. I live in Arlington.

We could either do it May 17th, 24th or 31st. I'll check with my DH and with some other garden club members and see which date is best.

drakelbel - email me - so exciting to find someone else in Arlington! Email is gpn6049@joimail.com

I live about 35 miles north of DFW - just west of Denton. This would be a cool way to take care of the disappointment of not being able to go to Slow's. :)

Hey, we could have a small demonstration of the wire mesh technique. I'd be willing to give one.

I could volunteer my bench for the demo. hehehe

Whatever anyone wants to do is alright with me. I have several tables.

I can bring my own table too. Set a date, and we'll see if everyone can make it.

Sounds good to me! I'd LOVE to watch slow do a demonstration...I learn so much easier seeing something done so I can watch the details of the process.

    Pat

It looks like May the 24th is the big mosaic demo. party day.

Slowmedown, I saw some pictures of your mosaic art work and I'm so excited to see what you can teach this knucklehead!!!

    This should be a blast.

OMG! Carolann you are soo funny!!! I'll be there with bells on. This is going to be so different from gardening stuff. I know almost NOTHING about mosaic. Heck I haven't even finished my second flower pot! (Gee, I better get on this!) Don't let me ask too many stupid questions! PJ

I've just put it on my calendar, and as I was writing it, I'm thinkin' "what have I gotten myself into - offering to TEACH!!!!!" I'm not a teacher, but w/try my best to show y'all how to manage the wire mesh. Everyone should buy a sheet of the diamond mesh, roll it and tie it for traveling, have a good 7" linesman pliers, a tin snip (Wiss brand is best), a little roll of 19 guage - doesn't have to be galvanized as is the mesh wire and the rubber-palmed cloth gardening gloves. I'm bringing hardware cloth for myself, cuz my hand strength has gone and left me and I can barely cut the diamond stuff. Since this is just for one day, I doubt there'll be enough time for us to cement our sculpture, so I'll just bring a little of the mortar mix and give a quick demo on that, and you can cement at home in your leisure. I didn't mean to hijack your mosaicing day, CAROL, so if you had in mind for us to bring little projects to mosaic together, I'll bring something to work on as well. Are we bringing sack lunches? Guess we need a roll call????? I'll email my friend who made a flower pot at our workshop, pick her up on the way and teach her how to mosaic that day too. W/also call the other lady I mentioned that was in the PV workshop to see if she can make it.

I live in Illinois...is that close to Fort Worth...LOL...dang! Sounds like so much fun.........what's for lunch!

I'm in Wylie, Texas. Would love to be a part of this. Can someone email me the details....

    slgarrett@kpmg.com

    Thanks!
    Susan

slowmedown, I would love to learn how to do the wire mesh technique but some of our club members are very new at mosaics. Maybe we could all do a mosaic project together and if all goes well we can do the wire mesh project another day.

Illinois isn't that far away. LOL

Susan, we'd love to have you.

How about this for a plan:

Saturday, May 24th 11:00 we all meet here and bring a sack lunch. We eat and all get to know each other. We'll also discuss our projects while having lunch.

After lunch we all start a project and maybe share any tips you have for newbies.

PJ, I'm glad you're coming. Everyone here is really nice so it's alright to ask a dumb question. I probably will be asking dumb questions too.

I have a covered cabana with a sink and we added a deck onto it so there should be plenty of room to set up tables here.

If you squint real hard I think that's me in the back 40(behind the lady in yellow) with a plate of something or I've grabbed a plant and am getting ready to run! LOL!
Carolann is the blonde lady (in blue)with the camera just behind the gentleman with the hat and glasses.PJ

Oh, THANK YOU!!! As I told you via email, I was knocking my self out here, thinking WHY did I offer to DO THAT??? After the Texarkana workshop I need to rest awhile, so this sounds like a very relaxing way to spend a spring day - lollygagging in your wonderful back yard, playing w/our toys. And I correct myself in telling you I'd never been to a mosaicing party. HOW could I forget the trip to P.V. w/the other four. We each brought a BUNCH of tesserae and pooled them. I was wondering how we'll manage that cuz I never know what I'm gonna do 'till I'm doing it, and so don't know what to bring as tesserae if I choose to do a flower pot. You're lucky to have a garden club that mosaics too.

slow, I'm hoping that we can do this again in the fall so maybe you'll be rested up and offer to teach this to us then.

Some of our garden club members have really gotten into mosaics. Someone made a very pretty birdbath with a flower in the center.

PJ and I are about to try doing hypertufa one day after she moves close to me.

    That's it.
When I return to the US I'm moving to Texas!!!!!!!!

Cait1, My DH's best friend lives in San Fran.married and is to an Aussie! She's from outside Melborn(sp?) and is a really lovely person. I moved to TX from CA and aside from being lost quite a bit I love it!

Slow, that pic doesn't even do justice to Carolann's lovely layout. It's worth the trip just to see the garden! PJ

Gonna be there, if God lets me live that long.

Hi= Count me in too if Slow will pick me up or we can pool on the gas. I would love to come just to see the gardens, I am like Slow, I would not know what to bring as I just grab and do it. We will see..maybe I can start a traveling bag and keep adding to it. It sounds like a lot of fun. Just meeting all of you would be great fun. I guess we could also bring some plants to swap? I love doing that.
I'll check with Slow and hope I can be included.
    Carol

You're in, FLAG. I had already thought of dragging you along, but see there'll be no draggin'. More than happy to pick you up. You'll have a bed at my DD's also. I always sleep on the sofa there, cuz I wanna be close to the coffee pot w/o waking her in the early hrs. Oh, yes, on the traveling bag. I know CURB does the same thing. She brought a bowling ball when she came to Texarkana one time, and said she always has a WIP w/her on overnight stays. Smart lady. Gonna start building mine SOON.

Hey, y'all. I've just thrown out a tease to my DD to join us. She's a master gardner, and anything that pertains to gardens/plant swaps, she'll do ANYTHING to share and see. She said she'll even join us in mosaicing (hey, I promised her I'd bring something small for her to do). When I told her that there's a possibility of a plant swap - that got her - said she has lots to swap now. So, CAROL, do you think we could include the swap as FLAG suggested, seeing as how your garden club w/be there?

I think that would be a blast! Even if we don't do a full blown swap I will take some things from my garden just as a gift. I am sure whatever will grow here will grow there.I would almost like doing plants as much as mosaic. I didn't know Shea was a Master Gardener, so am I. Small world. Looking forward to this gals.

Can you hear me WHIIIIINNNNNIIINNNGGG up here in Harrison???

I don't think there is ANY WAY I could do this, as we will be in the throes of strawberry season. But OH how I would love to...

Our garden club has the spring plant swap May 3rd but we could swap plants at the mosaic party too. We could all bring a mosaic project and some plants to swap. Everyone enjoys swapping plants. I have some old fashioned phlox that blooms a lot longer then most and who knows what else I could pot up.

This will be so much fun. Plants and mosaics....what fun (big grin)

Cait1, you do need to move to Texas.

Hot diggedy dawg - My DD is here this weekend, and is she EVER gonna be jumpin for joy. Thanks, CAROL for allowing us to do this, and thanks FLAG for suggesting it. Whooooopeeeee.

OMG, carolann....how odd you specifically mentioned the old fashioned garden phlox! It's one of my mom's 2 favorite flowers (along with bridal wreath).....my "quest" this spring has been to find some phlox for her to go with the bridal wreath I got last year. Haven't had any luck at nurseries and had about given up!! Now I HAVE to be there for certain! LOL - I was coming anyway, but this clinches the deal!

    Pat

Um um um.... uh... what to dig up???
Seriously, I love aggressive TX native/adapted plants. Anyone have a "hell strip" where they just can't get anything to grow something like a tiny strip in front of the garage, the grass by the street, or maybe this "one bed" out somewhere you don't/can't water? I'm the woman you want plants from! PJ

I've been out of town at my daughters and didn't get to sign in here till today.

Pat, I'd be glad to dig up some phlox for your mom.

We could also swap mosaic items if we want.

Good idea on mosaic swap. Need to know how many are coming so we'll know how much to bring. Since I don't have a whole lot of plants to divide, I'm gonna have to combine my plant offerings w/my DD. I checked out where you live, and it's an hr/half from my daughter's - a fur piece. Had thought it was closer, but it's still doable.

When I go to Dallas I go through Cleburne but I guess Carrollton is about 30 minutes from Dallas.

I can go buy some thinset. I have a hammer and bucket and sponges for washing things up. All everyone would need to bring is their project, tools and tile or plates and a sack lunch.

I just have to chime in here and tell all of you, I would so love to come; I live west of Austin and could easily come to Ft. Worth, except that I take care of my mom (age 94) and I don't have a backup. I am soooo homebound; it is a lonely life and I so much wish that I could come and join the party. Whenever you all have a get-together and I don't respond, it's cause I can't, NOT because I don't want to. The longest time I can be away from home is 3 hours. Someday when things are different, I hope to join in. Y'all have fun and I will be there in spirit.

silvamae, I know it's hard to take care of elderly parents and you'll be blessed for being such a good daughter. I do wish you could come.
