is there a freestanding range hood that vents sideways?

I am convinced there must be something that fits our needs, yet I can't find one on the web. Cooktop will be along outside wall. There is an existing window high above the cooktop. So:

(a) we can't have one of those stainless range hoods that go straight up to the ceiling---it would block the window;

(b) We have the headroom for a narrow cabinet under the window, but we don't like the look of range hoods hanging from cabinets, or range hoods entirely enclosed in faux cabinets.

What we have in mind is an overhanging stainless hood in which the "pipe" turns around 90 degrees and vents out the side wall. No cabinet above it. Is such a thing sold, but I'm not using the right search terms? Is it maybe an available option in many such hoods even though it isn't shown in the pictures? Or would it have to be a custom fabrication job?

Many thanks!

"Wall mount hood". That's the search phrase I needed. I see them now. Many thanks!

Also, if yup haven't found ventingdirect dot com in your searching, try there. You can search by different kinds of needs, sizes, etc. with the search filters.

You may see rear duct or 3-way duct (top, side, back) ro describe the duct arrangement you want.

Here's the problem I had on ventingdirect.com. I was able to search for wall mounts with horizontal vent, but this didn't mean what I thought. Most hoods had a top opening only, but the manuals showed the duct going up to the ceiling and then optionally turning 90 degrees to vent out the side.

Because of the window above the cooktop, I can't run a vertical "chimney" to the ceiling. If the duct is coming out of the top of the vent, I need it to turn 90 degrees immediately and go out horizontally through the exterior wall, under the window. The entire setup has to be under 20" high.

They do make hoods where the body is only 12" high, which allows 8" for the abovementioned elbow, but none of the manuals explicitly say that I can do what I described above. I also don't know if I can get an SS cover ("chimney") for the vent that is a short 90-degree elbow.

There ARE a very few models (e.g. Broan E60E36) that vent horizontally. They are basically undercabinet hoods without the cabinet. So no "chimney" at all, which is not a great look!

    All suggestions gratefully received.

I've heard of folks calling venting direct and getting great customer service. Perhaps speaking to a real person could help find some good choices?

Also, in case you haven't done this already, try posting your question over in the Appliances Forum. There are a lot of folks there with excellent venting knowledge.

Did you find a vent that works? I have the same problem!

It's "horizontal vent" and there aren't a lot of choices for some reason. Any top vent can have a 90 degree put on so it can go out the wall, but that doesn't help if you don't want a cabinet to cover the vent pipe. Also, the 90 degree coming directly from the top will reduce efficiency some and increase noise.
Most (maybe all) of the wall mount called "pro" style have the horizontal vent, but it is a pretty large design and I am looking for something less intrusive.

Kobe had an under cabinet design that had the horizontal venting as an installation option (so no cabinet was required) but it was discontinued.

Some of the wall mounts with the chimneys do have a horizontal option, but you have to read the installation spec sheets to find out. What I haven't been able to tell from the spec sheets is if the horizontal option is chosen, what does the top of the hood look like? does something need to cover the place where the vent would have come out the top? Same for under cabinet with horizontal option - what does the top where it would have been screwed to the cabinet look like with no cabinet?

I have a similar problem...I want to mount an inline fan inside a side cabinet that I can connect to an exterior vent. I have just about a 4" vent already existing from the microwave over stove set up. But I am opening up that wall to connect to the adjacent keeping room. so all of the machinery and vent need to run to the right through the cabinets. Can I use an inline bath vent to accomplish the same thing???
