Looking for pictures for stationary drapery panels

I have a decision to make on how much fabric I need for drapes in my LR. It's a double window 72" by 69".

There will be 2 panels for decorative purposes only. They will never be closed. With this in mind, I need to decide on whether to have the panels 1 1/2 widths or 1 width. The fabric is 54" wide and pricey.

I saw a picture in Architectural Digest last week in either the June or July issue of panels in a room that where fixed to the ceiling (or looked to be fixed to the ceiling) and were simply gathered I thought they would be perfect. It was as the Nail Salon I go to. Well, I went back there yesterday and of course it's missing.

I am open for any ideas. The difference in price would be a couple of hundred dollars and since I am not working right now, we would love to use our decorating dollars wisely.

I would love to see pictures of what people have done. In the meanwhile, I will go to the library to try to find the issue.

Thanks

Rande

We have stationary panels in our dining room. Not exactly what you are looking for, but here is a pic:

I don't know if anyone else takes pictures of window treatments in their hotel room while on vacation lol, but I snapped these in our room on the top floor of the Marriott on the Via Veneto in Rome.

Cornices aren't used that much anymore but I've always liked them and they add some architectural detail when used in conjunction with the other molding as done here.

    The blue panels were stationary.

Have you considered doing back tab panels at all? I like them because they are very "neat" looking and are very easy to sew.

i think you should go 1 1/2 width. Against the advice of a decorator, I did single width in my family room as i was concerned about covering any of the window & I have always regretted it.. They look too skimpy.

    Daisydair,

Thank you for the idea of the back tabs. I like the clean look which is definitely my style. I've never seen those.
    They can be a contender!

    Jen9,
Thank you for letting me know about your experience. You convinced me on the 1 1/2 width. Our concern about the window is the same. I am also working with a decorator who had the same suggestion.

    Parma,
Love the color combination. I still love wooden cornices also.

    Dixiedo,
Your panels are very pretty. Using short rods is an option I am definitely exploring. I've seen them posted before and it was that post that got me thinking about stationary panels. Thanks

I am in the same situation (if DH lets me buy curtains for the dining room and living room). We have very large windows, with blinds, and I do not wish to get anything with full coverage. I was going to go with the one panel for each side, which is just 41" wide, but lined for fullness. Now I am second guessing that decision.

lol parma42 - I thought I was the only one that takes photos of hotel rooms. My photo is of the Hotel Canada on Via Vicenza in Rome. They do love their draperies over there. My room had three layers over the window. Although the room was beautiful and spacious, the crooked headboard bothered me. lol

Mine in the LR & DR are both stationary panels. The LR ones were custom done for my former home but did fine here too. The DR ones I sat in the floor & played with them thinking of what I could do to give them more of a custom look. This is what I came up with........a floppy top turned down scrunched valance that is no-sew. You will have to click on the link as I can't post directly to this site for some reason. :) Bonnie LR ones are on page one of my album.

    Newhomebuilder:

OMG when I first looked at your post, I thought it was your BR. That's too funny.

With Jen9 post, I decided to go with the 1 1/2 width. We went ahead and ordered the fabric since we had a deadline from the manufacturer on the current run. Now I have to decide on style.
Bonniee, you have a beautiful home. Thanks for sharing.

Where did you all find the curtain rods that size? I've been looking for a while now, b/c I have the curtains for the family room, but cannot find rods that are short enough to do that look. Thanks!

Thank you Jerseygirl 1 for your sweet compliments! It was my pleasure to share. mpmg46, I got the short rods at JCP, ordered them with a coupon code for additional savings. Lowes, Linen N Things, JCP all should have some short rods. Good luck with your rods & drapes! Bonnie
