WIP - 2nd flue tile

FINALLY got around to starting this. Could not for the life of me figure out a design and so it sat and sat and sat. Today I looked at it and decided how to start and dragged out my broken dishes, etc and started cutting and making piles of things I thought I would use. Mixed up some mortar and as I started working realized I wanted to go in a different direction (that's why I have so many scraps). I used a full tile for the centers and different colored accents to surround it. Each side will be a different color. You'll see that only the green side has been mortared down. I'm trying to use up scraps, as evidenced by the odd shaped pieces.

Oh, AND, I've sneaked in a photo of my ALMOST complete garden shed (8 x 12). The door should be here tomorrow. I'm painting it to match our house. Stay tuned for that.

Here is a link that might be useful:

Way to go, ROSIE. Gonna be a cute little shed, and I can see a window box, garden junk all around it, landscaped, curtains in the window. Yep - better put in some a/c. Like the flue tile too. Good job.

ACK Rosie you blinded me with your beautiful shed and I forgot to say how wonderful your flue tile mosaic is. I am so much a green person and I love the scrappy look of it. So pretty.

A DOH moment. Where does a person get a flue tile? Did you have to use special sealer on it like terracotta before doing your mosaic?

Thank you ladies! SHADES: I got the flue tile at a brick yard. Unfortunately they only come in that square shape (rounded corners). I did nothing to it before starting the mosaic. The shed really is a garden shed. And it's going to have shutters, a window box, and yes, I'll put some curtains at the window. When we bought our house I needed a studio so we added on a 16 x 20 room, just for me.
NT: What is WRONG with me? It never occurred to me to mosaic the shed. Would that not be FABULOUS! However, DH would say "No way, Jose!" I'll have to think of something special though. Maybe I can mosaic just the door...hummmmmm

Love the flue, where did you find the Mexican looking tiles?i live on the border but haven't seen any i like like those ...love your shed...how about getting a backer board and mosaicing an arch over the windows to match window box and flowers?????DH might allow that LOL!!!!!!Annie

Annie: The center tiles were purchased in Antigua, Guatemala last year when I visited a friend who lives in El Salvador. The side pieces (the yellows and oranges) were pieces I got in Puerto Vallarta when SLOW and I went for a workshop.
Well, I doubt that I'd put an arch over the window because I want it to match the outside of my studio but I do plan to mosaic a Kaffee-like planter.

Rosie ,I didn't mean arch your window I meant a topper over the window...no matter how you do it it will be beautiful!!!!

Rosei, I love your flue! I wish I had scraps like that laying around. Shed is very nice!

Boy Rosie, I'd love to have a 16X20 ft room just for crafting!

I love how you used your scraps, I've been sorting colors and trying to think of an idea on how to use them up, I do love the random shapes around the center tile.
