Cape Cod House..exterior paint? White or gray?

My house is a traditional white Cape Cod with gray shingle cedar roof. It has always been white but we are residing the entire thing and thought maybe we would try a different color.

My question is..do you think BM Coventry Gray would look good or should we keep it white? I am in a time crunch!

Picture show is similar style.

Thank you!!!

2nd vote for gray. If you want to sample a few, try BM Platinum Gray as well as Coventry.

Grey! I just helped a client in Rhode Island with the exterior color of her cape (yellow with grey roof). She finally went with a blue-grey (BM Blue Nose). Grey is beautiful on capes, just be sure to punch it up a little with a crisp bright trim (white is always good and classic), and a another color on the door, like red (altho my client wanted something funky, so we did BM Perennial Green).

Wow all gray votes! Any other grays I should look at? Nothing too blue!

They sell tee-shirts in Martha's Vineyard printed with
Turn left at the gray house with the white trim

it's funny because all the houses are gray with white trim. That is the way to go with a Cape, even if you're not on the Cape or Islands.

Definitely gray. And I'm from MA...

I grew up in a gray cape. My vote is definitely gray!

A like the gray as well. Throw some trim to the place or throw an awning to make the home look more quaint. You grab em at home depot or lowes and obviously the internet.

Hmm... interesting. I have a traditional white cape, too (two dormers, no roof overhang as shown in that photo, and dark grey asphalt shingle roof... black shutters, red front door.) I love my white, and the whole color scheme, but have wondered whether I might change it whenever we re-side. My top two choices for my own house are cedar shakes which will weather to a grey (although they'll weather to more of a black here in central NH than they would if I were right on the coast) or grey clapboard. There is a grey cape in my area which I really like.

Having lived in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, I have to say that I prefer very traditional siding colors. White is about the most traditional (with cedar shakes being popular actually ON Cape Cod and the Islands) but grey is a good runner-up. If you're straying from white, I'd go with Grey, white trim (but what color shutters?)

We decided on Coventry Gray! Not sure about shutters and door? Black? Yellow door?

Wondering what would compliment the gray?

I'd say black, white, or red are all good with grey, especially since you have a traditionally-styled house. If I were you I would probably go with black shutters and a black door, or maybe a red door. White trim. Google "Grey house black shutters" (no quotes) to get an idea. (Or gray. Either spelling will bring up different things.)

    Let's see:

1)Gray house, black shutters, lipstick red door

2)Gray house, deep navy shutters, yellow door

3)Gray house, matching (or slightly darker) gray shutters, shiny white door, black iron door knocker

4)Gray house, darkest plum shutters, dark pink door with shiny silver door knocker

5)Gray house, black shutters, orange door with black iron door knocker

6)Gray house, dark black-green (Charleston green) shutters, lime green door

7)Gray house, navy shutters, bright lime green door

8)Gray house, black shutters, bright turquoise door -- black iron door knocker
