Undecided Blue or Cream Bedroom (Pics Please?)

I'm thinking of painting my bedroom (either blue or cream)and need some inspiration. I want to stay away from the baby blues (some of my favorite blues are BM Constellation, Woodlawn Blue and Wythe). Those of you who have blue bedrooms; could you post a pic? I'm not sure of the color of bedding that will look best. My second choice is an all cream bedroom (love the look!) Thanks.

Wait! Before you use Constellation, which I really think is pretty, make sure you test it. That sweet innocent blue is a bit intense when on the wall. At least it was for me, when I tried it in my bathroom! Looked lovely on the ceiling, but it was too "baby blue" for the walls in there. Consider using it on the ceiling and doing something else on the walls, maybe?

Regarding cream bedroom. Just love that look. So elegant. However, I finally "got it" about how difficult it is to use an ivory or white or cream in a room. Even if you think the room has a lot of light, if the light isn't coming from multiple sides of the room (aka, good light all day long), then you will more than likely see shadows on the wall which will turn your yummy cream into a not so appealing color. Be careful with creams, make sure to test them out too, and put things in front of the color samples so you can see what kind of shadows you get.

I will post my favorite inspiration photo for a cream room, but in the photo, notice windows on various sides, plus it is a professionally photographed room so the lighting is perfect.

What about blue AND cream? A beautiful combination for a soothing bedroom!

I too wanted a blue/cream/white bedroom. But my blue turned out to bright and overwhelming. BM Buxton Blue. Don't recommend it. Maybe it was my space that doesn't have a lot of natural light but we don't like it and it's barely been up a year.

Now here are a couple of my inspiration pictures. I think I stole all of these from RMS.

I have this bedding for a spare bedroom that's not quite finished:

It's hard to see, but the striped sode of that comforter has a super pale blue robin's egg color. I'm thinking about doing the headboard wall that blue, and the other walls a sandy cream.

(Ditto what Bee said earlier, I experienced that with my PB inspired kitchen in a past house... fortunately the non-headboard walls of this room will all have a lot of window space, and it will be a small, relatively empty room).

avesmor, that bedding is lovely! Where did you find it?

We did our master in Palladian Blue. We have a south facing window and a west facing one and we also get some light from the dressing area (fancy name for pass-through to bath with closet) windows which also face south. DH liked that blue, so we went with it and painted it a year ago. It is really blue in our room and like itltrot, I am not liking it, but will live with it for a while. From others' pictures, Wythe Blue looks better to me. I think blues can be tough to get right, but when you do-wow! I wanted something that would be more green/blue/gray.

Good luck. Post pics when you finish!!

I agree with the 'blue can get intense or babyish' problem. I've fared best with blue when I've picked a blue--then went about 2 shades lighter. Love it though--especially some of those inspiration pics with cream posted here!

Love all the photos! Beekeeperswife, I especially love the cream inspirational photo (If you place ivory/cream bedding....would white lamps be the thing to do or are those ivory?) Nanny2a, the blue wall photo with the white bedding is gorgeous (everything just pops). But I'll have to admit, something about the cream room is very appealing.

Just saw today's installment from The Enchanted Home. Go look, lots of inspirational photos with blue, blue & cream, blue and white....go!

I would do white lamps with the ivory/cream bedding. I think you would want to make sure that it is obvious you are doing cream and white on purpose. I would also do white sheets with cream bedding.

itltrot - sorry for the late response. I actually picked up the entire set at a JCP outlet for about $20. ;) It's a Linden Street set but I think it has been discontinued for about a year now. It's completely not something I would normally get but it "spoke" to me. I've been deviating from my norms lately.

I used S.W. Impressive Ivory for my master bedroom. I have a light blue matelasse bedspread and 2 shams, along with 2 cream color shams. My room is fairly dark, so the light shades work well.

What I like about the color is that it looks the same day or nighttime - some colors change with lamp light.

    I don't have a way to post a photo.

    Here is the opposite:

BM Sparkling Wine on the walls and cabinets and BM Constellation on the ceiling.

I'm with Beekeeperswife, I love my Constellation on the ceiling but it might be a bit much on the walls, depends on the light, truly, but for most rooms an even lighter or more grayed blue would be better.
I think the cream looks a little blah in these pictures, it is much more serene in person. I may change the wall one day.

For the person looking for green-gray-blue, you can't beat BM Tranquility, a little more green in real life than it appears in this photo:

I think sujafr gave a really good blue tip.

avesmor, if you fall back on the wagon and decide against using it, let me know. ;-) (I might or might not be looking on ebay for it). Haha

Sorry southern, didn't mean to hijack your post!

Love all the photos, but I'll second the warning about checking samples of cream in all the light that comes into your room. I painted my dining room a cream color many years ago and the window in that room brought in a pinkish light, reflected off of the brick wall next door. Ew. Dining room walls the color of raw turkey flesh = bad. Very bad.

In the next house, I painted the living room cream and was careful to check my samples against the light at every time of day. No raw turkey flesh problems, and I loved the color--I think it's the only room in the house I didn't repaint during our six years there.

cangelmd, thank you, thank you for the Tranquillity suggestion. I will check it out as I am looking for something more green! I may redo sooner than later!
