Looking for your opinion on pillow color

for guest room. Here are different colors on the bed in the guest bedroom. I've wrapped fabric around an existing pillow, but the designs may be "off" since I didn't do so to best showcase them (dumb), but they do give you an idea of color, etc. Remember: walls will be a warm ivory. Questions:

a)Which do you think would be best? Combination is also possible, of course.

b)I also think I need to change out the bedskirt to something solid--maybe a navy or pale blue or even gold?

c)Lumbar or square?

Thanks so much.

Anyway, here are the pics:

1)

{{!gwi}}

Color is actually much darker, as on bed pic above:

3)

These look like fish, but are actually parrots. Also, color is dark as in above pic:

4)

5) Or one or both of these (although I really don't want the pillow to "match" the comforter, and the blue one does)?

Now that would be cute there! Who wouldn't want a doggy there when visiting : ) I always miss my animals so much. Not so serious and very French, too!

    My vote is for #2.

    My vote:

ok, I like it like this, with the Quail centered, so it's not like a pattern:

Squirrel, I so wish I had your Photoshop talents! I think when she sees that, she'll be racing out to eBay! Thanks so much for placing it there for her to see!

I hope she hurries back, because the auction end in 2 hours and 45 minutes from now at 10:06 PM.

my3dogs: LOL. My dh would kill me. :)

squirrel: I LOVE that last one. It's PERFECT!!!

Yes it is : ) Shown with the ball fringe from the doggy pillow : )

    (which is only $20!!)

    Do you like the walls???

LOL: Oh wow, I didn't even notice that! YES! Can you make it a little deeper in color? I'm thinking BM Elephant Tusk might be just the ticket! What color do you have on there, btw?

It's just very pale, for you : )

    Well, I love it.

Squirrel, you're not the only one who likes the red one best - so do I! With gold trim or fringe, that's the one I'd prefer, too. The prints just look too busy for me, along with the print in the quilt and colors of the striped bedskirt. Either that, or the cute pooch - I'm a sucker for anything D-O-G.......

Here's a deeper one. A closeup so you can sit in the room -- just stand back for the big picture!

    P.S. Thank you. :)

I think I like that even better. You've done it again, Squirrel. :)

"squirrel: I LOVE that last one. It's PERFECT!!!"

    That is thank you!

You're welcome : ) We don't want to hear anything about doing white later on, lol.

We all have so much fun in your house : )

I have the fern Helen Verin pillow and will eventually get the oak leaves one to go on a close by chair.

Here is a link that might be useful: fern pillow

wow..what an amazing collection of pillows. I could decorate a whole room around some of them-- love the blue heron, the sparrow, the crab .. and all the fish! I can't really picture fish in my living room but i just love the pillows. I also love the medallions and prints. I guess I am glad they cost so much-- as I'd never be able to select just a few.

I believe you were wondering about blue too:

squirrel: I can't tell you how much I appreciate you photoshopping this for me. I now know that blue is out of the running. I much prefer the warmth of the Ivory. Now if you could just name and market that color, I would be even more appreciative. :)

I'm partial to #2 because when you originally posted that one in a choice on another thread, I immediately ordered 4 yards to cover a Martha Washington chair in my guest room. However, the background color didn't have quite the contrast I wanted in that room (I have a pattered rug in there too, OSH). So, I've decided to make pillows and valances in our gathering room.

Thanks for posting the photoshop so I can see what it will look like too! I scrolled down to the bottom before reading all the posts, but I'm hoping you chose it (or the Maltese one).

Ok, I've scanned through the posts again and I agree. Les was so right on the ivory wall color. That last photo by squirrel was spot on! What a gorgeous room. I wouldn't change a thing, especially the bed skirt. All the patterns, scale and color have melded into a beautiful, peaceful retreat.

    Great job!

lovinlifesc: I'm so glad we're on the same wavelength about this! And isn't that fabric beautiful? I just saw a valance made out of it on ebay!

You did? I'm going to have to check it out! This may be the first thing *I* try to sew myself based on my3dog's easy valance instructions.

The fabric IS really gorgeous. I know you're going to love the pillow up there. I'm trimming mine in a deep green trim. You know you could trim that pillow in a red closest to or or coordinating with a red in your rug and bring up that color as you originally wanted (unless you do some transferware on the walls per Patricia's excellent opinion).

Love the ivory wall color - the blue is fine, but not as warm and rich, imo.

Don't care for any of the pillows. The pheasant print fights with the floral coverlet, rather than enhancing it, perhaps because the scale is too large for a small pillow. I love that fabric, but not here. This bedding has a charming, provencal feel to it. I would follow your instincts that served you well on the lamp choices, and look for something that pulls out the orange and blue, perhaps a Quimper print if available?

    A Quimper needlepoint:

    quimper octagonal

Here is a needlepoint pillow that would be nice, I think. Of course, way out of MY price range!

    peonies and pomegranates

Love this one, but a bit small - more affordable, tho!

    jacobean pillow

Wow, Les, that first pillow is a knockout! Love it!

OS i love the second pillow. I just saw this post.
    Squirrel is spectacular!

I responded to this post yesterday, and must have clicked 'back' instead of post! duh!
The love the second pillow, and I think it needs one or two solid blue companion pillows...one pillow is never enough.
A blue bed skirt would be perfect.
    Joann

joann: Good point about blue pillows to flank it.

les: A bit too rich for my blood, too. :) I do like Williamsburg pillow--a lot. Would two be better than one?

Also, what do you think of this one? The background is actually a buttermilk, not a white:

    {{!gwi}}

Also thinking of this fabric for a pillow. What do you think?

Here is a link that might be useful: Robin's Egg Blue

I thought you were set ???

I am on the wall color (thanks to you)! But les said she didn't like my choice for pillow. And, you know, if les says it's wrong. . . well--lol.

I think I've gone beyond ridiculous on this whole pillow thing. I'm like a dog with a bone: it's rather neurotic, actually. So I'm going to just pick something and be done with it. :)

Ya know, it's just a pillow...pick something. The best or worse shown here won't make or break the room.
But I don't like the most recent choices you are looking at...bland and boring.

Others have suggested switching out the white Matlasse coverlet for the print comforter~SH, could/would you do a PS? The print/striped skirt have some yellow or gold~how about a pillow with some yellow/gold?

I LOVE the blue walls SH photo shopped!! The blue walls will add more impact to the room than any pillow...just my 2 'sense'. ;o)

Much easier to just put that comforter on irl : )

Well, if you're going to have one person's opinion determine the pillow, and after you already loved one of them, then I'd just let her select the pillow and be done with it! Hm?

squirrel: At this point, I'm just confused. And feeling embarrassed that I've spent so much of my time and everybody else's on a stupid pillow choice. I have to stop thinking that everything needs to be "perfect." It just doesn't matter that much. I like the ivory quilt with the blue quilt folded at the end of the bed. And I like the choice of ivory walls--and thank you so much for helping me arrive at that choice. As for the pillow: I'll just select a pillow and get on with my life. :)

It's a lovely, lovely room! and you've done a beautiful job with it. If you get a pillow in there and don't like it, you'll know, and can easily switch it out to something else. I like the white cover also, and the bedskirt, and the blue coverlet at the end. It's very fresh, which is nice for a guest : )

OSH, you could be my sister (if I had one!). My best friend says I obsess over things being just perfect because I want to do it right, but I prefer saying I process things by talking about them. ;-)

I agree with squirrel that you have done a fabulous job on the room and it's only one pillow, after all. You already have the material, go for it, but if you get it on the bed and don't like it, well...try something else.

Do I remember that my3dogs is going to make the pillow for you? Does that have any factor in your decision?

    Susan

How about something like this. I like the way the details pick up on the shapes in the rug. Doesn't need additional pillows, either.

The pillow does matter it's not stupid. But there is not that much difference between a lot of the pillows shown. It's not a matter of which one is the perfect pillow because lots of
the choices would work well. Which one do you like best?

Whoa, Nelly! I hope you were kidding when you posted about me not liking the pillow! My opinion is no more valuable, in fact likely much less so, than anyone else's. But I do try to give an honest opinion about things when I write.

And I hope you remember that I always say 'it is YOUR space, and if you love it, go for it!' Don't let anyone, most especially me, keep you from choosing what you love.

One other thought. Just for fun, would you bring up one of the pillows that you have on the couch currently in the LR? I am wondering how that might work.

Personally, I think we all get way too caught up with what is perfect color or shape wise.. yes, the perfect element can totally bring a room together but sometimes it's the unexpected or not perfect thing that gives a room personality.

I really like the two animal fabrics because they make me think of you. I also adore the petit point pillows-- and they make me think of you too. Of course, I don't *really* know your personality or what works for you-- but do choose something that you love.. and that will make you happy as you vacuum the room .. or that will make your guests smile and think of you.. not just something that works with the rug and the quilt. :)

patty_cakes: I agree that the pillows should have some gold in them. Absolutely. I like the blue walls, but prefer the ivory ones, I think.

lovinlifesc: Yes, my3dogs has generously and very kindly offered to make the pillows I need, so I need to make my decision--pronto!

squirrel: I tried a pillow just like that! It's an "almost-but-not-quite." I think the pillow needs a bit of red, at least a touch. Thank you.

les: I was half-kidding. I do appreciate everyone's feedback. Very much. :) I did, however, try your suggestion of the LR pillow on the bed and--I'll be damned--I think it's the answer! I am SO not good at lateral thinking. Would it be weird to have the same pillow on the bed as on the sofa? Anyway, here are the new pics with the sofa pillows on the bed. What does everybody think? If you like it, do you think there should be one or two pillows?

I'm really kind of loving it--are you listening, funky? LOL

Yes, they have much more presence than the others. The larger scale looks so good with the smaller print in the coverlet.

Love the pop of red, too.

Yes, I think having something with a larger, central motif along with the right colors, is a good mix in there. For me, the issue there is with the rug and that's what works with it. I also liked having the yellow on the bed, in the last virtual.

Don't you dare move those pillows from the lr!!

That pillow does seem a bit large and square to me. I also think two pillows looks kind of odd.

Amazing how a pillow thread can reach 65 posts!

Those pillows have all the colors you are looking for, alright. I would prefer one to two. It wouldn't upset me to use the same pillow in another room, but I'd only do it if I couldn't find something else.

65 posts for a pillow? hehehehe

These were on your other pillow thread. I almost fell over because they have all the colors of your guest room including the cream background.
    {{!gwi}}

Oh! Yes kmcg85 - that DOES look great! If you like this one OSH; the woman I bought them from on CL had 5 and I only bought 4 of them. They are $10 each, NWT. Let me know and I'll give you her phone #!

How about the one from the couch plus the red small print (#1) one behind it? OR a small red neck roll with gold trim? Interesting post. ALl the pictures really illustrate how a single pillow can give a room so many different looks. Good luck with your choice!

I am listening! haha. I love the urns.. well one. Parma is absolutely right, the larger scale pattern works so well with the smaller pattern of the quilt.

Now.. my problem is that I really liked them in your LR too.. but *I* would not use the same pillows in the LR and bedroom. Can it be done? Of course. I just think you that you have so many interesting options that it would be a shame to use the same in two different rooms.

If you are loving them in the guest room, that's where they should be. They work beautifully.
