Pottery Bard duvet arrived...please tell me what you think (pics)

My Pottery Barn duvet cover was just delivered SHORT one pillow sham...grrrr. I have no comforter yet so I've just draped it across the bed on top of my quilt to take the pics. Please tell me what you think. I'm thinking/hoping a comforter will puff it up and help the look. Also thinking maybe a red pillow instead of the tan? Or is it any good at all? I'd love to know what you think.

Also gotta get rid of the orange picture and wreath hanging on each side of the bed.

Here's my other 2 quilts that I've been changing out winter/summer and then the new duvet.

    It's divine.

I agree with you re: the red pillow. I also think some solid colored Euros behind the shams would be nice.

They will happily send me another pillow sham like I ordered, in a MONTH. It's backordered until Sept 17 :-(

What is that lying across the foot of the bed in the first 2 pics? Can you put that inside the duvet to get a better feel for how it will look with a comforter?

Your duvet cover is lovely, and I think that a red pillow is just what it needs.

It looks like you already have a duvet lying on the bed, or am I not seeing correctly? Why not try that inside the cover?

That looks great!! Have to agree though, bringing in the red through a pillow or even a throw would help balance it out a bit.

Natal beat me to it. I do that all the time. I have a down blanket in one for a light duvet and I have a really puffy huge German down comforter in one for a fuller look. I never have trouble with them shifting at all. They are always in place and I just give it a quick shake and they are neat. I do use top sheets as I don't want to wear out my duvet covers with washing. I do all my sheets/pillowcases 2x a week and sometimes 3 if we are really warm here. It would ruin my nice matching duvet/sham sets to launder them that often.

I love the look and think playing up the red is the way to go. I would also get some of the deep taupe color in pillows and put them out. I think a deep taupe colored chair in a slipcover look would be very nice near the bed to pick up that color...can you tell I LOVE taupe !! Very pretty.

Very pretty! I must say I smile every time I see your pictures as I have the same bed. :)

Ok that's weird, I responded here and my post didn't show up.

The comforter at the foot of the bed is a full/queen size so it's not nearly big enough for the king duvet cover. I guess I need something similar in a king size. Thank you all for the positive feedback. I do like the idea of playing up the red with pillows and maybe a throw.

Trailrunner, a deep taupe chair sounds really pretty. I need to get rid of the broken exercise bike in the corner and get a chair :-) That's on my list of things to do but it hasn't gotten done yet.

straitlover, Have you ever posted pics of your bed? It would be fun to see my same bed in a different setting.

    Mimi it's beautiful!

I love it, Mimi!! What a beautiful soft green color in your bedroom, too.

I saw the PB catalog come in & took it to the trash without looking. Isn't that awful!

    Hope your doing well.

    Smiles:)

No, not yet. I'm waiting until i get the bedroom painted first. For now, just picture it in a room w/ plain ol' builder's white walls w/ beige-y colored coverlet. :) Hoping to paint and get some real decor in there come September.

    I love it!
I think it looks wonderful in your room...beautiful colors!

Wow, you are fast! We must've twisted your arm pretty hard! ; )

I like them all! Last time I checked LinenSource had some good prices on their mattelasse for shams. Nice, nice choice!

Thank you everyone! I got a comforter today and just got finished wrestling it in there. It does have the bands to tie the duvet cover to it so it should all stay straight. As I struggled to tie corners and button up the duvet cover my DH took pity and helped me out all the while giving me his "you gotta be kidding me" look. I think it's just a guy thing, he'd choke if he said wow this is really pretty :-) It does look nice all puffy now.

never_ending...Yes you all twisted my arm so hard I had to order quickly. It shipped from the same city I live in so delivery only took a day. Now I'm impatiently waiting another month for that third sham.

I'm on the hunt for a red pillor and/or throw, or maybe the dark taupe also like trailrunner suggested. I'm just happy to now have 3 choices of bedding and I like them all. It will be fun to change them up. I appreciate all the suggestions and opinions.

    I love it....

Oh I wish I shared how to put a comforter in a cover ! There is a great trick and it makes it so much easier. You take the cover and ruffle it up like panty hose so you are holding the outside against you and the open side is away from you with your arms inside the ruffled up part. I hope that makes sense. You then reach for and pick up the comforter with your hands...they are inside the cover....you pick it up and shake the duvet cover down over the comforter. If this is unclear I will post pics when I get my camera back . It takes only seconds to put the cover on.

I do think taupe accents would be wonderful. A comfy chair and ottoman would look great...a heavy canvas slipcovered fabric would look great and not too casual. Good luck and let me know if the above makes sense. Try it w/ a pillow case/and a towel and you will see what I mean. c

trailrunner...I've read your description a few times. I get a little lost about hands inside the cover. Pics would help a lot! Will this method still work with the ties?

I have an exercise bike in the corner of that room that has gotta go when I find the right chair to put over there. A small ottoman is a good idea, too. I'm glad some of you mentioned taupe. That would be a great color in there and I don't think I would have thought of it.

Slept under the new cover last night :-) It felt all new and luxurious...lol. Sometimes it's the little things that make us smile. I'm just glad my life is calm enough at the moment that I can take time to appreciate new bedding. I start feeling shallow giving a bedcover so much attention but then I just count my blessings.

hmmm...if you think of the cover as bunched up with the pretty print crushed up against your front and your arms inside of that bunched up fabric at what will be the "top" 2 corners then the part facing the comforter is the "inside" of the duvet cover....think of a giant open mouth ready to "eat" the comforter LOL. Yes if you have it bunched and ready to go then someone can just tie the 2 top corners for you as you are standing there ready to essentially "drop" the duvet cover over the comforter right side out. You could lay it down on the floor with it bunched and tie it and then pick it back up w/ your arms back inside the bunch of fabric. I never use ties so not a problem.

I am SO glad it was comfy. I love a fresh made up bed. That is why I got a clothes line up...I love the sheets and cases...brought mine in last night seconds before it rained and threw them on the bed...slept all night ! If this still doesn't make sense I will sure send pics asap...camera should be back in a week or so. Caroline

Ok trailrunner, I got you now. I think I can do a modified version of that. The opening for the cover lacks about 6 inches on each side of going all the way across to the edge, so I have to put the comforter in then kind of push the corners over. I could try bunching it up, shove the corners in and get them tied, then pull it up over the comforter. Next time has to be easier than the first time with DH twisting and turning it and laughing at me.

My DH says he likes HIS way best...actually he has 2 ways . I will give both.

    1) turn the duvet cover inside out. Grab the bottom corners of the comforter with the inside out corners of the cover ( which you have already tied) and have someone simply walk the cover towards the top while you hold onto the corners...voila it is in.

    2) DH says he much prefers this way: get your wife to start trying to get the comforter in the cover...come in and offer to help her wrestle the cover onto the comforter...fall on the comforter with your wife and forget about trying to get the duvet cover on...you can come back to it later :)

I also want to know what color " 'haint blue" did you choose? I need to do my porch ceilings. Good Luck....

Too funny Trailrunner! My own DH loves that way, too!
Mimi, it's a lovely duvet cover. I think using red and taupe in there with it would looks fantastic.

Thanks for all the duvet installation ideas...lol. This could be fun :-) I bought a taupe pillow today but didn't see any red ones I liked. Patience patience.

Too funny trailrunner, you saw my haint blue comment in the other post. We built this house 3 years ago. I have a record of every color used inside and out EXCEPT that blue and it's the only one I have no cans of paint left for either. I told the builder to use the same blue his wife chose for his porch. I had seen his and liked it. I keep thinking I need to email her and find out what it is. Here's a picture of the color. I'll see if I can get a name because I've been asked several times. I used it on my front, back and side porches.

Your new duvet looks awful pretty with your iron bed - and I love the other 2 looks also! I really like PB duvet covers. My daughter has a few for her bed and they're very comfortable.

I thought your DH particularly would like to "help" you with the duvet next time. :)

I love love love your porch , Funny I have 3 porch ceilings to paint...now that I just finished the floors...sheesh...so now I want that blue !! So go find out for me...THANK YOU !! c

trailrunner, I sent an email asking for the color. It's a business email so she might not answer until Monday but I'll let you know.
