Wood blade used on Metal Chop Saw?

As I have restricted space in my shed, I was hoping to use my metal chop(Cut off saw)to cut wood as well.

I have purchased a DeWalt DW3128 12" 80 tooth blade that has an antistick coating on the cutting edge.The saw that I am using runs at 3750 RPM. I have had to make up a spacer to shim the retaining nut enough to grip the blade.

It seems to do the job, however, when I made a test cut on some treated pine, a cloud of noxious smoke was produced by the wood which filled my small shed rather quickly!!!

my question is, was this produced because the saw was spinning too slowly at 3750RPM or could it have been caused by the "anti stick coating". Any ideas?

My advice is to stop immediately. That cloud of smoke is the best clue that your idea is not going to work. The blade might be loose, or mounted crooked, or wobbling----makes little difference---it is DANGEROUS!!!!!!

Get the correct equipment---a circular saw is much better, and you can use a speed square for a guide to get straight cuts.

Was the blade installed coorect direction. Sounds like it might have installed to spin the wrong direction.

Good point, I missed that one.

Having used both types of saws, I still think the chop saw for wood in a bad idea----the back fence is not high nor long enough for starters.

Ditto all the above. Metal chop saws are comparatively rough and inaccurate tools, not in any way built for wood cutting. Besides, who wants a lot of semi-oxidized metal debris contaminating the wood you cut?

I use a chop saw for wood.

Get the RIGHT blade - one meant for cutting wood - and install it correctly. You should not have to shim it if it's the right blade.
