Where can I find UNIQUE bird houses?

I am looking for a decorative (not functional) bird house for my MB. I would like something a little rustic/shabby chic, light colored, probably white, in either victorian style or wedding chapel. I've looked on ebay and googled it and I keep coming up with the same design, over and over, which tells me they are probably made in china. I really want to find something nice that is made by an artisan but not too expensive. Anyone have ideas? I know there was a thread about this a while back but can't seem to find it.

Can you post a picture of your MB?

I think I'm the one who did the thread a few months ago, but I was talking about bird cages. Do you want a cage or a house? I looked for cages the other day and the good ones are mostly vintage and very expensive.

Craft shows, art fairs and other places where people who make hand crafted stuff hang out.

Carminnc, the room isn't ready for pictures yet, but I'll post a picture of the hutch.

Oakleyok, that might be the thread I'm thinking of, but I am definitely looking for a bird house not cage. It might have been Sheesharee who had a nice one. I remember someone had gotten one as a present from DH, but maybe it was a cage.

I don't want one on a stand. I'ts going on this dresser. 15" tall would hit at the top of the lowest shelves. I'm thinking that would be the best height. What do you think? I would also like to put some kind of lamps on the dresser, but maybe that would look cluttered. If anyone has ideas please share.

This is an old photo. The vine, reflected mural, comforter, chair and table are gone.

I think you're talking about me. I found one that DH went back to buy me for a gift years ago. The store is local and no longer carries them. I don't know the name of the artist. It's signed, but can't make it out.

I have several more on the top shelf of my pantry (wooden). Birdcages here and there in the house. The teal one with the white picket fence was purchased in Gatlinburg, TN after I saw him featured in a magazine. I may still have his name. I collected all of the wooden ones over 10 years ago.

I searched birdhouse + vintage + doorknob and come up with a few good links. Here is one:

Allison, those are so pretty - just what I'm looking for and the prices are not bad at all! Thanks!

May not be exactly what you have in mind, but this ebay seller quite often has some pretty, pretty birdhouses, using antique hardware and crystal door knobs as accessories.
Her selection is limited right now, but you might even contact her if you like her style and prices?

Red beat me to that seller, but I also saw some under seller 'scooking123' that you might like.

Check Etsy also. See the nice one at the link below.

There is a gal here at GW who makes very unique birdhouses; her name is Gail, and she'd be thrilled to show you her work. Here's a link to her PB album:

Glad I could help out. Did you order any? Or try searching using the wording I posted?

Here's one covered with copper...I bought so long ago, I don't recall where:

Red, I had run across that house, but since I can't use pink, passed it by. I'll try contacting her. Her work is close to what I'm looking for.

    My3dogs - I don't know how to search for a vendor. Help?

Alison - I have not ordered yet, but I really loved his things. The smalls are as large as I could use.

Thanks everyone for the links. I'm still looking for the perfect one. Keep them coming!

Art, if you go to that Etsy link I provided, you land on one vendor's birdhouses. I didn't search by vendor there, as I am not familiar with any that I could recommend. I just searched on 'handmade bird house'.

Hello, I actually have a few birdhouses/birdfeeders that you may like ...

If anyone is interested let me know. Thanks.

Dominique you need to read the forum rules before posting any more SPAM. You also have missed the point that I am looking for one of a kind houses made by artisans and definitely NOT mass produced Made in China Birdhouses. Those are a dime a dozen.

I bought a chapel at Homegoods. They have a lot of nonfunctioning birdhouses, some very very nice.

artlover, I object to spam as much as anyone, but maybe we could give Dominique the benefit of the doubt. She was responding directly to your question, it was a current thread (not one dredged up from months ago), and how was she to know that you wouldn't like her stuff?

Dominique, welcome to GardenWeb. Take it easy with the links to your site and join in the conversation.

She registers the day of her post, with the name of her URL that is a business, posts pictures of items she is selling - which it totally against the GW rules - with her domain name plastered across the photos, and we're suppose to give her the benefit of doubt?! If it looks and smells like spam, it's spam.

Sduck - I'm a frequent shopper at Homegoods. LOL. I haven't seen any birdhouses at mine. It's amazing how their inventory varies from location to location.

About possible SPAM - If Dominque is genuinely a new member I will be the first to apologize. I'll admit to being a cynic, but what Allison said.

I haven't been to Tuesday Morning's in years, but in my pantry, the green/teal ones with cream (first photo, left end. Last photo, right end) came from there.

I have found a couple unique bird houses at yard sales, antique/boutique shops at very reasonable prices.

    You know, 'art',

It just occurred to that you are very artistic - why not make or paint your own? Many places sell unfinished birdhouse, and you can buy some antique looking hardware or do whatever you want with one. It'll be just what you want!

I made some last year for a charity auction, and one thing that I did was to make roof 'shingles' out of overlapping rows of pine cone 'scales'. I have a sister in NC who sent me some of the really large cones from down there, and I clipped off the scales with utility scissors. I glued them on with hot glue, as the last step in creating the bird house. You can stencil on the body of the house, antique it, you name it!

If you know someone who has nominal building skills, they can make you the house out of old wood or scrap lumber in the size you want, rather than buying one unfinished. Go for it!

    Hello, I'm sorry.

I meant no harm. I actually just started working for this business and find it very hard to bring customers because I'm shy and new to all this.

    I apologize again.

I just got finish reading the policy. How do I delete those post I made?

    Welcome, Dominique.

I'm sorry for being harsh, but we get spamers from time to time that are only interested in selling their wares. You can't delete the posts, just let it go, and don't worry, I find the people here to be forgiving and accepting. Join in with our discussions and you will find a lot of people here who are helpful, insightful and a lot of fun.

Marigene - those are really cool. I love the one with the crystal door knob and little clock.

My3dogs - you're right, I am the DIY queen. LOL. I thought that just this once I'd let someone else make something for me. I have so many projects going right now, and school just started back up. I actually bought 3 small unpainted birdhouses at Joanne's, but had just about decided to take them back. Maybe I'll keep one and paint it for my nightstand and buy one from Texas Bird Man (one of Allison's suggestions) for my dresser.

My husband made a bunch of little wooden birdhouses and we got our family together one day and we all painted them, nailed them to a dead tree branch that was painted white and put it in the ground in our yard. They came out really cute.

shaun- what a darling idea! I love it! And since my morning glory vines don't always 'take' up one of my vine-poles, I think I'll steal your idea and cover it with birdhouses next season. Guess I have my winter project...THANKS!

Shaun - that is adorable! What a great family project.

Dominique, is there an easier way to look at the items on your website without having to register?

I like your birdhouses, but I can't find them on your site. :)

don't know if these are unique enough, but thought immediately of a store near me called Arhaus. We just got our MB furniture from them (we love it BTW, and they are a 'green' company)

there are a couple of sizes of bird houses, scroll down a little further and there's also a cool looking wire tower and nest stake. HTH!

I would think you should be able to find some cool ones at a local antiques store. Live anywhere near Chicago? My great uncle was an antiques dealer and we are trying to get rid of a lot of his stuff (now moved to a home) - I bet he's got a birdhouse!!

Mairin, there are some cool items on the Arhaus site. I think their bird house are really bird cages. I like those too, but I'm trying to get an outdoorsy look with the bird houses.

I've looked at my local antique stores, but I haven't found bird houses. I'm nowhere near Chicago!

Oakleyok, I went to Dominique's site. You can get to the catalog by clicking on the photo, but I didn't seen birdhouses either.

I just ordered a rustic birdhouse from the Texas Birdman. I don't know if Allison knows him or not but she gave me the lead. I'm also painting a small one myself thanks to My3dogs encouragement. I'll post pictures when I get them in my redecorated outdoor themed MB. Thanks to everyone who showed theirs and gave suggestions.

Allison: you have the best taste. I too have been looking for unique birdhouses and I plan to look at the Texas Birdman site more closely. I really love your copper birdhouse. Anything else in your house you want to share? LOL

mmqchdygg well there ya go! I hope you'll post a picture of your bird houses when (if) you do it!

Glad I could help out. No, I don't know him. I found the website using the searching words I posted when I linked him. Haven't even looked at his site, other than to click on it and see it was similar to mine.

kulagal, thanks! I have pictures on threads in Decorating, Kitchens and Building. My kitchen is also on AtticMag (French Gray Island Kitchen...although pictures are three years old) and they recently did a post on the sliding panels I had made to hide TV over FP in great room. To oakleyok -

Right now, the website is so complicated because of the set-up, I can admit, it's hard to probably get customers to stay on it. Lol.

Heres a quick and easy way to help you.

    Log in to DOMINIQUESDECOR.COM

At the top, there will be a menu - First you'll see HOME and next to HOME you will see SHOP.

    Click on SHOP.

Click on THE WORLD OF PRODUCTS CATALOG - located to the RIGHT.

LOOK to your LEFT of the page, you will see "GO TO PAGE" - in that box GO TO PAGE: 30

    CLICK FIND.

    THERE YOU GO!

From pages 30 to 41, there are all types of BIRD HOUSES, FEEDERS, and BIRDBATHS.

SORRY FOR THE INCONVIENCE. THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST AND PATIENCE. IT MEANS A LOT TO ME.

Oh, I do understand you do not want to sign-up but if you do, you will instantly receive a $10 Gift Card. If you request not to receieve newsletters or anything that you are just not interested in then believe me it won't be done. I will stop typing now. Thanks again!

    To artlover13060 -

Thank you for your warm welcome.

You guys are very creative. I remember when I was about 10, which was 9 years ago, when I had to create a birdhouse. Me and my grandfather created one out of tooth picks. Shaun your idea reminded me of that for the fact yours are similar to the one I made.

BTW To Shaun - I love the Spongebob one. It's so adorable. Great idea.
