What should we do with basement remodel?

Hi All,,

present;ly remodeling our basemnet of raised ranch. half of the wal is below grade, and other half above grade. All the sheetrock is off, so exposed walls.

I have all of my receptacles all roughed in on the lower wall,,,,now,, we are not sure in the future, where we might put stuff,, for instance, maybe hang a flat screen tv on the upper wall,, so in esssence it would be nice to have a plug nearby on the upper wall...

We are not even sure we would need it,,, just in case..

What do you advise we do now, on the upper wall, to make running wire through the studs easier etc. I know we can run the wire throughout the upper part of the wall just dont connect to anytthing,, so we have it already in place..

Are there any other options or methods.

Thanks a bunch

Jim

i would run the wire to a box but leave it tagged as to where it goes and disconnected at both ends. then put a blank plate on it so that later you can easily add an outlet.

while you are at it, put in boxes so that later you can add surround sound. speaker wire is fairly cheap, so go ahead and run them and terminate at a central place that you think you might put an AV system later. it is easier to do with teh walls open than later once they are closed up!

i like what the builder of my house did in my den. there are several empty boxes in teh walls with a blank cover on them. each one has conduit goign up into the attic and already has a pull string in them. this gives me the option of moving my entertainment system around if i desire.

And I would run at least two lines of RG6 to each location you may have a home theatre set up. Whether you go with cable, satellite, etc, the new technology for home theatres needs a lot of cabling. I would also include CAT6 cabling for a network to your pc. I use this for my DirecTV set up...the surface is just being scratched. If you have any questions on what to do, consult a home theatre expert. They can guide you.

What kind of ceiling will you have.

Our basement has a suspended ceiling so it is very easy to run wires in the ceiling and down into any desired stud bay.

If you are doing drywall, you are wise in trying to forsee anything you might need in advance.

For all of the things I've had to add (phone, cable, outlets, whole house humidifier wiring, etc), I'm glad that we have a drop ceiling.

Thank you all, appreciate your comments.

Irish, it will be drywall,,,so I want to make sure I have most of the bases somewhat covered before its too late.

We have cable already, phone,,, for computer wil probably go wireless,,the stereo/sound system sounds nice...have to think about it. It would be nice to click on a switch and have your favorite local music station play from the ceiling.
