What chair would go with this sofa?

We have this sofa in grey that we use with a "nutmeg" colored large leather ottoman and walnut-topped parsons side tables.

We're moving in a few weeks and we're putting the furniture in this room. It will have a light beige wall-to-wall carpet.

I think I need a cushy chair to go along with it, but I'm utterly devoid of inspiration. Leather? Patterned fabric? Another solid? I don't think I want the matching chair - it seems too matchy matchy. There's no other furniture or accessories that need to stay.

    I vote patterned fabric.

I would keep the chair color in one of the colors in the fireplace material. I would do a texture not leather. I would mix some patterns in an ottoman for the chair and pillows for the sofa. Over all I would keep it calm with the interests in the accessories. Muted/rose and rich camel would be pretty.

I would do a patterned fabric. With a beige carpet, the pattern will add some needed texture to the room.

I love the clean lines of your sectional so I'd find a chair with the same clean lines and do it in a fabric that has a pattern with a teeny bit of the color of your sofa in it. That being said, a solid creamy color would also work and you can bring in color with your accents. It's a personal choice.

Hi cottonpenny, this explains better (from above) what I see.

My original post above...I would keep the chair color in one of the colors in the fireplace material. I would do a texture not leather. I would mix some patterns in an ottoman for the chair and pillows for the sofa. Over all I would keep it calm with the interests in the accessories. Muted/rose and rich camel would be pretty.

Just my two cents worth, but I think you need a pattern.

In that room, I think you could use more lightness, and a stripe with thin stripes far apart on a creamy background, perhaps in terra cotta and gray, if you can find one, would look nice.

Alternatively, something with a small geometric pattern woven in, or a creamy cotton or linen damask, would be nice, and stand up to your fireplace.

Sometimes fabric is like paint - you have to go buy half a yard and fling it around to see what works for you.

Hey Cotton, this maybe miles away from what you are seeking. The color fabric isn't exactly right but doesn't it look interesting and cozy? Maybe, if you don't hate it you could check out the many other looks that are close online.

Interesting that people see red in the fireplace. I see blue, grey, and a little tan.

I currently have aqua/brown pillows and a pea green throw on the sofa in our current place...but they are in need of replacing so I am open to different ideas for the colors. I had thought a bright red would be fun but I dunno. I'm drawn to fabrics that are kind of masculine warm...like tweed or houndstooth. But not sure that's enough contrast with the sofa grey.

I also don't know the right shape. Does it have to be square like the couch? Or can it just be still kind of contemporary and not too traditional and still work?

    Like this?

Hi Cotton, The chair isn't bad but maybe you want to look a little more? I put the colors on a board for you so you can see if you like it all together or not. I didn't see red so I did not add it here but I'm sure you can imagine a red-ish instead of a browny muted dusty rosy brown-ish mauve that I like lol.

Or a patterned chair might look nice as other suggested. I guess I was just thinking to add patterns to the accessories, pillows and such because I was thinking it might mess with my eye and the fireplace. I could very well be wrong. Its all about what you like.

    Here's a cool patterned chair!

    Thanks, jterrilynn!

That is a cool chair - where is it from?

I am one of those that runs the other way with even a whiff of pink, so I probably won't do mauve, sorry! Green is my favorite but my kitchen cabs are green and are just through a 8 ft opening opposite the FP.

I like rust/orange so I'm wondering if that would work. Maybe just cause it's fall I feel drawn to those colors. I don't think I can get a cream chair cause I have a toddler and I do want to keep this stuff for a while..

I feel like I need to pick a shape then decide on a color. Or vice versa. I'm kind of floundering :-/

Hi Cotton, you will find your chair. I'm very excited about your room; love the fireplace area and the sofa you have picked. The chair above is from Neiman Marcus, they have several chairs that I love. Williams & Sonoma also has some nice looking chairs, check out the Harrison Chair. Old Hickory also has some nice transitional pieces, if you find a chair check out their fabric section on their site as there are many choices in fabrics that are not often found on individual sites carrying their line.

When I look at the photo board, I see a slate blue chair (the blue from the fireplace) fitting in perfectly with your room...which is beautiful, by the way. I love that style.

I'm curious about something. When I was looking at barstools I found that by looking on commercial furniture sites you often got a much better bang for the buck, more choices in finishes and fabric/leather options. I'm wondering if the same is true for armchairs as in commercial vs. residential mass productions. I was just looking on one site called Kellex Commercial and they have some great choices in fabric for their armchairs. This is just one of many commercial furniture sites. On regular shopping sites like PB, RH, and all the rest you only get a few choices in fabrics that are not overly exciting.
I'm wondering if anyone here has used the commercial furniture stores instead of the usual places.

Here is a link that might be useful: Fabric and leathers

Oh poo, it didn't show the fabrics on the link above but you can see by clicking the fabric link on the left of that page.

sorry to hijack the thread but I like the barstools on that link, I always thought you had to order large quantities or had to be a reseller to order from sites like that, could I really order 4 barstools or a single chair?
