New FamilyRm - Brown Accent wall - need rug/furniture help

I have a new 19x22 family room and need ideas for finishing it. The accent wall is chocolate brown, the other walls are BM Fennel Seed. Floors are amendoim hardwood. I have been looking at PB Brandon Rug, but not sure if it goes with the room. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I will try to post some pics.

Lovely room! Can I ask you what color did you pick for the brown accent wall?

I think the brandon rug is perfect for your room. Your house is beautiful btw.

That's a great room! Have you visited our Living Room, family room, sitting room, sun room eye candy thread in the Gallery? It has hundreds of photos of gorgeous rooms, many done by top designers. You should get lots of inspiration there.

That is a beautiful room. The floor is beautiful, the whole thing is beautiful. I would just say everything is brown. If you put a brown rug, then you will have more brown. There is nothing wrong with brown, there is just a lot of it in there.

It looks beautiful so far. I love the cabinetry, floors, windows and paint colors. You could bring in almost anything-- judging from your pretty kitchen, you like rich neutrals and transitional style?

It just depends on whether you want a patterned or solid rug, and what furniture you have. You could go traditional with an oriental rug and leather furniture. I have a big soft shag rug that is actually carpet with the edges bound. It is very nice, even for sitting on the floor.

If it was my room, I would do the shag rug, slipcovered furniture, and a big leather ottoman in the center, with some great patterned pillows and floor pillows. Your shelving will be great for books, photos, and collectibles. I would put a sofa table behind the sofa with two lamps, and some baskets for magazines.

If you decide to bring in some more color, I think red or apple green would be great with your paint colors.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I was hoping to bring red in as an accent color, which is why I am concerned with the Brandon rug, which has a rust color in it. I wanted to find a pattern rug to pick up red and brown but so far I have not seen one. I love the Pottery Barn look...but their rugs seems to have more rust than red. I do like the idea of a shag rug...if I do the shag rug, then choosing it is probably not my next decision...I am just not good at this and this whole renovation (kitchen and family room) has really stretched my design skills...I so want to be done, but now the next decision is really going to define the look of the room. I have to buy rug, furniture, window treatments...i have nothing, so its wide open.

Sonaliagrawal - the brown is Benjamin Moore AF-165 (Kona), looks really nice with the Fennel Seed on the other walls.

@bustersmom_2007 : thank you! I went and got a sample pot of that color as soon as i saw your message. I want to do my entire family/dining combo in that color. I have barely any walls, its mostly windows and a a little bit of wall here and there.

Loribee - I don't know what to do for furniture, rug, windows....I have to buy it all so that is why I posted...any suggestions? I have a 3yr and 8yr old, I like the Pottery Barn look...but not sure how to acheive it...I wanted to pull in some Red (like a tomato red, not a burgundy red)

    bustersmom,

your room is beautiful. I love the colors. For me, the rug you suggested would be a bit too brown--but I guess it depends on what color furniture you chose. I like brown leather, so I would want my rug to give me some contrast.

I love your hardwoods. I am considering amendoim. How do you like them? What manufacturer and width are your floors?

    thanks, Kristine

A lovely space, and the chocolate brown wall is luscious!

I know you said you wanted red as your accent color, but I would think in terms of red being a second color - everything else really is brown. For the accent? A deep turquoise or teal - great with the brown, and amazing with red, too.

I assume the tv is going over the fireplace. We don’t see the wall opposite the fireplace, but from looking at the kitchen pix, it would seem that the wall is solid on the left side as you look at it, and has a sliding door on the right.

I don’t know if you are thinking sectional or separate pieces, so I will just throw some ideas out there.

I would look for a piece like this, to put facing the fireplace/tv.

    thomasville derby sectional, fabrci 1331-40

You could add a leather ottoman if you feel you need a comfy place for feet , or this round copper coffee table. I think this could be really great in there, with the brown and red tones in it, and the curves to work with the rug and chair shapes and balance all the rectangles in the room.

    tribecca round copper table

A sofa table or low cabinet behind the couch with a pair of lamps for lighting there.

Then I would put a pair of upholstered swivel chairs on the left of the couch, facing the window, with a lamp/table between them. Perhaps a deep red fabric like this:

sutton swivel glider chair, fabric 2622-91

Then over in the corner to the right of the fireplace, I would love to see a big reading chair, floor lamp and side table, perhaps a chair like this, in leather:

    linden street leather recliner

Finally, a rug with all your colors and some great pattern, perhaps this:

linden street chunky loop rug, in the aquamarine background

On the back wall to the right of the slider, if there is room, you could have a desk and chair, if that would be useful, or perhaps a small table with two chairs for playing games.

I don’t know what you are thinking for window treatments, but panels would be nice just for a finished look. If you need privacy you could also consider woven wood blinds. These panels from JCP might be ones to consider:

linden chenille panels in henna stripe

Then pillows and accents that pull in the reds and turquoise/teal. And of course art, but that is a personal choice.

    Wow, Les...fabulous suggestions!

Ooo Les, I did not see your reply in time! I purchased the Pottery Barn Skylar rug, 9x12, the PB Pearce Sectional in Oat, and the PB Leather Sullivan Ottoman, Espresso...so far. My plan is to also buy the PB Recliner in Espresso and add the Arlington Chair in a stripe fabric...eventually. I bought the left sectional, so the long end of it will be along the wall with the 3 windows, the Recliner will go in the corner that opens to the kitchen, with the Arlington Chair paired up next to the recliner. We'll see. I do love your suggestions though.
Kristine, I love the look of the amendoim floors. However, my 3 year old has put a few dings in them...they still look great, but I know the dings are there :(. I have BR-111 Triangulo Trengame3 - 3-1/2" Engineered Wood. The furniture has shipped from PB, so I will post some pics shortly. Thanks again for all of your suggestions! Hopefully I did not screw up!
