I love your rug with the bricks on the fireplace ! They truly compliment each other. I think your lamps are very pretty. Can you move the double floor lamp over closer to the bookshelve in the corner. Also, another idea- can you move your pictures above the other lamp and chair so they are horizontal- one on top of the other next to your door entrance then move your table with the lamp over to the other end of the wall and place the chair underneath the pictures. I think that would help balance that wall. Also I would get a pretty cord cover for the lamp cord since it will show.

the china cab looks great there and I think I'd put just a pretty chair and a great/meaningful piece of art in it's place.

What do you put on the morrocan table, if anything? I'd think something in a gold color would be stunning. Maybe a shallow bowl?

Love the chair and the cab! The new lamps are great-- I esp like the table lamp. I agree with previous suggestion to move the floor lamp over a bit. I know you said to ignore artwork placement-- but the table with the lamp is a little crowded. It doesn't need much there-- maybe a couple of books.

Foyer
Love the rug and fireplace-- and again, i know you are working through artwork but wanted to note that I'd love to see someething bold and with color here. Maybe flowers or something on the wall in the great bold blue/teal in the DR.

Also, it may just be the angle of the photos, but I can't quite figure out the position of your center table. Is it centered on the doorway? centered on the space? on the fireplace?

My suggestion:

Morning Room: Move the small table and the table lamp over to the right a bit -- and shift the vintage office chair over to the right too. You could even try that table closer to the sofa so that it looks like an end table (maybe try it lengthwise over that corner between the office chair and the sofa) -- as well as a table for the office chair.

Keep standing back in the room to try out the placement -- and sit on the chair as well as the sofa.

what to do with these d&*( chairs. They can't be centered on window w/ display cab there as it blocks the view of cab and looks weird. Need something on top of cab...DH needs BIG guy to help slide piano...none here today. Only other way to turn it is the way we used to have it...his back infront of the window and nose of piano toward foyer...should I center chairs back infront of fp...we use it all winter ? I am done moving stuff for today. Have to go to work soon and need to rest . See what you think.

funky: great idea for corner in DR but I have that bench there in front of window...so where to put it. Yes I have stuff for the Moroccan table but need to work on it.

LOVE the fireplace in the foyer! I've never seen that before and think it is the most inviting idea ever. I'm imagining a miserable cold rainy or snowy night after a dreadful day, the relief of finally making it home and opening the front door to candles, a warm crackling fire flickering dancing jewels of light around the room, as I fill my favorite big mug with hot cocoa from the carafe left on the gateleg table. My hands warmed, I'm freed from my heavy wet coat, now hanging on the rack to dry before the musical fire. At last I can take off these boots and into my cushy slipper, safe, secure and comforted at Home!
The music room, I'm still seeing the Lamp&2 chairs switch places with the piano so the player is in the corner next to the fireplace seeing the full room and the guest and other musicians are viewing the fireplace and the player.
You home is so inviting, not to just visit, I want to live there! How many fireplaces are there? How many floors and does it still have an old kitchen and pantry?
I know you are grateful for such a fine home by the loving attention you continue to express with care. Do you know when and why it was built and the following history? Is in in a historic district of similiar homes? Sorry, I don't mean to be so nosey, don't answer anything, I'm just so fascinated in old homes, and your's is really wonderful.

I just love all the changes- I think it is all pulling together! It could be in a magazine! Cord covers are great. They are usually in a silk type fabric and you attach them over your cord all the way to the plug. They are decorative and make the cord look finished. They come in all colors- gold, cream, burgundy, red, green, animal print-etc. The type I buy snap all the way up. Google cord covers and I bet you will find a bunch. LOL! Keep your wonderful insriration your home is beautiful!

Bodica ...you are a wonder...I was looking around trying to see what you see...wow...it is lovely to have "new" eyes. I am sorry to say that the fp in the foyer is the only one that has no fire. The chimney had to go when we opened the attic for living space. It wasn't workable anyway. The other 4 we use all the winter...even in Alabama:). They are all gas inserts...Victorian. We have the LR one and the DR one and the one in the kitchen and one in the MBR.

You saw that we opened the attic space in 2002 and added 2 bedrooms and a bath and great room and office area w/ bookcases. It is 1300 zq ft up there and 2700 sq ft down...lots to clean !

Mr Abbott built the house in 1890. He was the first photographer in Opelika and took many pictures. Unfortunately his widow cleaned out and threw away EVERYTHING when he died. So so sad. All that history lost.

The whole 7 block x 7 block area is a registered historic district. There is another on the Southside of town that is growing and changing all the time. The individual house is not registered though.

You saw the Photobucket album by now I am sure. There are tons of pics of the area in there for Christmas and the porch tour we have and then the Spring pics I took as well as the kitchen remodel and the evolving gardens...I am struggling with those:). You are too too sweet. I really appreciate ALL you have said as well as all the others.

The piano can't be over there as the window shines on it...tuning is affected with 5 min of direct sun. So I will take a pic and show you all what we did. Also got a wonderful centerpiece bowl for the DR table. Moved the china cab and then put it back. It looked funny in the front corner since the mantle is there and sticks out...anyway I think it works. I now need one more wonderful piece for wine glasses etc. Needs to be light wood and rustic sort of or painted wood. Maybe a dark yellow...rubbed old painted finish...anyway will have to "shop" which I don't like...

Do you sew? Cord covers are easy to make. They are just a tube of fabric sheared on a cord. I usually make them big enough around to go over the plug and then two - three times the length of the cord you are covering. I hope that make sense.
