Can Someone PLEASE Photoshop my Little Blue House into New Color?

Hi Guys-

I have been meaning to ask this so many times. This house was built in 1994, and we are the new owners. I would LOVE to see a couple of things, if any of you super talented photoshopping wizzes can help me? (This will be my secret weapon in getting dh to get on board with painting the house with me) We took the picture last winter, so the leaves would be gone and you could see the house.

1. The color blue changed to a mocha brown.

2. Adding black shutters to both front windows.

3. Possibly painting the front door black.

4. (Wishful thinking here) Maybe can someone also add 2 dormers to the roof?

Here is my little ranch:

Thank You to anyone who is kind enough to try this out for me!

I've goota say that when you leave that garage door white, it makes it the first thing you see when looking at the house. It is the biggest mass of light. I would make it a slightly lighter version of the mocha or leave it stained wood or...?

I love the porch roof addition. It gives the house a welcoming feeling.

I was also wondering last night if we could tone it down with a combination of tone/white, as in one of UK's inspiration pics above. Will have to give it a shot. Did the lighter version gd and didn't post it, so maybe I didn't like it? don't remember clearly.

Variations on a theme, and budget : ) Hopefully described correctly! it gets confusing : )

As in last post but with lower porch rail, ebony/black detail on upper portion of rail.

Porch header and headers on garage and windows. Trimwork along roofline off. No side posts on porch. Same porch rail.

Same as above but without porch header:

Same as above but without porch header and gd hardware only.

Gable area only and gd hardware only:

And the arch with full trimmings:

Love Squirrel's work! But, IMHO, keep the gable arched. It just is so much more welcoming!

Love the colors and I love the garage door with the windows. The arched gable, shutters and new garage door just really updates the entire house.

Another vote for the arched gable. It really opens up the doorway area with the arch. I like the garage door with windows but if you're making decisions based on expense I think the hardware added is effective also. In my opinion the arched gable does more for the house than the garage windows but both are great if you can do it all!

I kept trying on that straight edge! but have to agree the arch is the one I love.

I love the arched gable best, too! It is so charming, and friendly while also being a smidge stately.....but mostly charming.

I love all the extra white trim. That also gives the house that extra punch.

I just don't know what to do about the garage door. It IS big and white. Right now, (the before picture....or the right now picture) the house looks unbalanced. Sqirrel hit a home run by jazzing up the garage door. I think the windowed door is essential is balancing the right and left side of the house. The white garage door with just the cute little black hardware is surely cuter, and even updated, but the windowed garage door is all of that AND balancing to the whole feel of the house.

I am in LOVE with this newer version of our house. While I am in love with it, believe it or not, dh is CRAZED for these new house updates. He cannot stop talking about them. He said "We can't turn back now, because we have seen the light, and denying the light is an abomination." He was surfing the net looking for garage doors while I was asleep! (OMGosh, I cannot believe this is my husband!!!) He said "Why isn't there a 'buy it now' button to push right next the squirrels version? There needs to be a 'buy it now button, because I am ready'".

LISTEN to me Squirrel: This is an EXCELLENT side business! You are great at it, and the finished product is undeniable!

Wow that was so fun watching the transformation! Squirrel you're really good at this!

wow, that is amazing! And on board with the garage door is something, too. Truly exciting and so worth it. So glad I picked up this thread and you feel better about things : ) Now if I could only get my nose to twinkle like Jeannie's.

Can't wait to see the changes. If I'm not around when you post, please email some pics so I do get to see them! or if you need to see something down the road, just give me a ring. You don't mind if I show these before/afters on a flyer or something, right? as they've already been on the net anyway : )

Here's the lighter mocha on the door, discussed above. Still didn't get to that brick walk. Let me know if you still want to see it.

Garage on the front or not, I would be driving by your house and saying "I just .. love .. that .. house!."

I will for sure post pics once we do this completely. Yes yes yes use my house on a brochure. I am very excited for you. Most people don't know this service is even an option. Mock-ups could be used in so many different ways! You should compile all of the mock-ups from this site! You probably have TONS!

Please post a business link once you get it up and running, OK?

    Thanks.

lol, I can't even imagine how pics and projects I've got on this thing. Had to get a new hard drive, lol.

I have to finally comment here! Can't take it any longer...this is so good! I've admired Squirrel's amazing work before but this is wonderful to watch in action. And I LOVE the last one above with the lighter garage door. The house was pretty to begin with and now is (will be) really a head turner...one of those you look back at over and over and just enjoy admiring. Thanks for letting us all see this and take some of the ideas to our own little places, too.

Love love love all that Squirrel has done:)

Gable looks wonderful...it would be 2nd on my list after paint!!

    Smiles:)

Yes, isn't it too much fun to see these things unfold and evolve, and all the different effects. UK had a great vision for her home (including the dormers, better in the form of a gable over the door), and we were all able to contribute to bringing it alive for her (and dh!) Regional though it is, I'd love to hear how much something like this porch redo actually costs, if you don't mind sharing that with us down the road. Personally, I think it would be pretty much recouped, unless it's out of this world.

Wanted to remind you that a pendant porch light might be able to be tucked up there in the arch. Really adds a lot of charm if there's room. I had tried it, but in the virtual it seemed a little low so I left it out.

Will someone please post a before and after in the same message? I've been going dizzy scrolling around trying to look at all the details.

    Thank-you!

WOW! I loved scrolling through the photos - Great Work! I have one idea for you to consider. Remove the railing on the porch- I can just see you enjoying a drink sitting on a little bistro set. Unless you would like to hide behind the rail - which I am guessing you will be pretty proud of your home and would not like to hide. just an idea.

It's always fun to watch a Squirrely thread! Such a talent! I also love the last rendition with the mocha garage! ::::BRAVO:::::

Someone asked for before and after. Here's the original and the last mock up together.

Okay, I love it all, except I really miss the curving flagstone path to the front door. Now I see no welcoming entrance to this charming home. Please put it back and vote again. Didn't read all posts, so maybe there's a reason to eliminate it. Squirrel...you are "da best"!!!

I see the existing walkway, but it's up so close to the garage it's not much of a welcome from the street , IMO. If not the ( my fav) curving walkway from the street, how about widening the existing walk and adding a med.-large bed of shrubs and flowers on the lawn side to define this walk?
I prefer the new flagstone path for curb appeal, but also for function. If the driveway is filled with guests cars, there's not much room to slide past to the walkway to front door. But, aw heck, the other is so much more charming, doncha think?!

OMG. This thread is so much better than any home improvement show on TV. I may have to cancel my cable.

    You are fabulous, squirrelheaven.

ok, here's the flagstone walkway again, showing the vent covers in the light mocha also. Also bricked the concrete portion of the walk in the second one.

lol, Kelly, well tune back in cause you just missed two more shots! We do connect on odd wavelengths out here, as I was just wondering where you were today! It just gets eerie!

Meant to hang that porch lantern! lol And another placement of the hydrangea, cuing off of Leah's comment : )

Well, since this thread is still alive and well, maybe we can try another thing?

My other idea is to see the curved walkway brick. It would tie in with the other brick touches on the house, and might look charming.I would love to compare the brick to the flagstone.

It might take me some time to get an estimate. I am concerned that a GC will want plans drawn up for the gable addition, which I don't have. I will try and get an estimate anyway though. :)

Thanks for all of the input you guys! Squirrel is just the best, and I appreciate her time and talent so much!

Hopefully he can just give you a ballpark estimate to see if you want to pursue further.

lol, still didn't tackle the curved brick!

It's so fun to come back and look at all the pics. It's like TIVO.

Thanks Squirrel for the curvy path:>) Hope uk likes it, too. Can I steal this for a sec to say, this house was 'purty to start with. If ya wanna see a REAL transformation cross your fingers that our SH tackles the new request begging for help. Oh my! (thanks, uk, for letting me slip that in!)

Just popped in here Leah, and haven't looked at what's out there yet. Must do this walk in brick!

How come you are no nice? Think that's been asked/said before. (the other will really grab you or overwhelm (challenge:>) you . Repeat...you 'da' best!

Alas, the brick walk! I think you can get a pretty good idea from this.

    {{!gwi}}

    Oh, I love the brick!

Wow! You did a super pretty job with the brick walkway. The detail of the walkway is amazing! The curve is just right! You even have a brick border on the walkway! I love it! Thanks for taking the time to do this, Squirrel! You really have an eye for this stuff.

I can't wait to hear the vote for the walkway. Do people think Yes or No to the walkway, and then brick or flagstone?

Does anyone think that if we do the brick walkway, that the concrete is now the big eyesore? Should we re-do the concrete drive with something else? Brick or stamped concrete that is darker?

Hey, look what I found! Why not : )

    I love the walkway : )

Here's the concrete stained a warm gray and the curb the asphalt gray.

I like the walkway since if cars are parked in the driveway, there is no place to walk up to the door just like my home where people have to walk on the side of my car to get to my pavement that leads to my door. Maybe even some flowers (maybe pansies?) around the edges of the new walkway would be nice.

Leah, I thought you meant, above, that you had posted a pic of your house.

UK never came back, but I'll post these anyway : ) Thought it would be fun to look back at the blue. Then threw in additional colors for others.

UK - maybe post a new thread with some pics for a vote. This one is so picture heavy, the thread may load too slowly for them to continue watching.

    Old Gold:

Looking at the evolution of this house and all the amazing squirrell rederings, the cream really grabbed my attention. I'm not crazy about the walkway though. I don't know what you would do with the existing walkway. Instead, I would move the existing walk down a little. In the pic it looks like the concrete walk meets the brick on the garage. Move the walk down the driveway a little and put a sweeping curve to the front door. The area between the curve and the house would be prettily landscaped. A Japanese maple would look great in that spot! With a cream house I can picture a bluestone walk instead of brick.

LOL, squirrel, I wasn't very clear, was I?! Didn't even mention scoutfinch to identify the post! kmcg, the existing piece of cement I see isn't really much a walkway...merely a short path from driveway to front door, but is fine where it is, for its limited purpose. Not the inviting guests pathway from street that SH has created. I agree about the Jap maple...put one wherever would be nice! Guess this would be tough for those with dial-up to access. Fun while it's lasted, though. thanks again sh:>)

Thank you again squirrel for not only all of your work, but adding those couple at the end.

I think I have narrowed it down to the brown house you posted on Sat, Oct 4th at 19:48. If you have that one saved, can I possibly see 2 final versions? 1 version like 19:48, but back to a white garage door, and no window boxes. Then, second version same as first, but with the front door black. They may not be everyone's favorites (not sure) but those 2 would be my favorite right now.

Once we get a few "finals", I will start a new thread and ask for votes. That will be fun! I can't wait :)

    See your post : )

    Current garage door?

There's some free voting software online, maybe use that for voting : )

    Hi Squirrel!

Search on 'free online poll software.' There are a number of them out there. Maybe look for one that only allows one vote.

    Hey Squirrel!
Oops, what I actually meant was the garage door that you posted on Oct 4th at 19:48, just white. (see above post). The one w/windows.

Just switch the garage door on those bottom 2 you just posted to the other (and in white) and that will be the 2 I'm hoping for :)

    Boy, you are fast!

    Thanks Squirrel!

I will read through what you posted, and see if I can figure it out. Have you ever used it before?

I tried one of them some time ago (not sure which) and it was easy to set up.

I really like these last 2 pictures of the house. I'm glad the flowers are gone of the windows.
