Landing Area Cabinetry/Storage

I'd love your input on the following. Please don't hesitate to make recommendations and/or point out any issues you see.

As part of our family room remodel, we added an 18" wall (shown in purple) to block off part of the landing area of the stairs going to the attic (not living space, 1/2 finished, 1/2 unfinished). The landing area has always been wasted space.

The goal of the wall was to increase the wall space in the family room. A nice side effect is that I think it will be great for some built in, 15" deep, 36" wide cabinets and storage, against the back wall.

It's a small area, with three doors/openings (attic, bathroom, family).

The purple arrows show the area:

The doorway here is 36" wide and we're fairly confident we are still able to get things up and down the stairs as needed.

Cabinetry plan: 36" wide by 15" deep, to full ceiling height (8'). New wall on right is 18" deep.

I'd like two lower drawers, in which we can store comforters/afghans for both family room use and in our bedroom (past the bathroom on the left).

For the family room, we will need a place for electronics (cable box, xbox) and this is a possible place for these in an upper cabinet.

Otherwise... ?

That's the perfect space for a linen/electronic closet. Perfect! If you don't have to put really long items up in the attc, I think you'll be fine.

I like the deep drawers.

Thanks oakleyok. Drawers are wide but not deep.

Here's another idea; taller upper, perhaps a charging station in the middle, two side drawers.

What a perfect space for cabinets! Can't wait to see the final outcome.

To bring things up the stairs, you will occasionally need to use that niche for backing into and turning the corners into the rooms on either side of the stairs.

It's a great area for storage, but make it something you can move if needed, such as a nice armoire.

It is looking great, oldbat2be. The door casing turned out so well.

Just a reminder to check your electronic runs and ensure your equipment has IR extenders or UHF remotes.

I think the built-ins would be perfect, but if you are concerned with the length, you might consider a "removable" top like a hutch.

Gooster - IR extenders and UHF remotes - I'm sure we don't have these, so appreciate the suggestion and will research. Removable top is a great idea, but I can't imagine finding what I'd like, so will probably proceced with a built in. There is a very large window upstairs, so if we ever HAD to get something up or down, it could be done via an outside lift.

Lazygardens, I hear you! If I can possibly find the right armoire, that would be lovely. That said, I don't think we back into the corner (not enough room). We always bring things in at an angle from right side of the family room door (consider a queen sized mattress).

Oakleyok - I was thinking about what you said. Linen closet is really the right description for it (though I would also like to use it for electronics). I spent a little time on Houzz this morning and found some cabinets I really like.
I love this. Perhaps with a grill/mesh top in place of the glass? Also, it might be lovely in a dark wood.
