Eat-in Kitchen/ Dining Redo #2 - Update - Pics - Help!

Hello,

Well...I have been busy "window" shopping! Based on magnaverde's rendering of white chairs for my kitchen, I have come up with the following. Let me know what you think! What do you think of the elements and what do you think of the white bench? My curtain lady does custom pillows and cushions, I could have something done with my current bench, but not sure that it would help much. I know that my table is not as dark as the inspiration, but I think we are going to live with it for now. Once I get the other elements, if I feel the table "must" go, then I can easily swap it out and keep the other elements. Thoughts?

    Well....

your choices are nice and safe....but nothing knocks me out. If you're trying to play the safe route, fine, but I personally would like a little more pizzaz.

The chairs are fine. The drum pendant is too plain IMO.

On LampsPlus.com you can design your own drum pendant. I don't know how much you want to spend, but they have different sizes so something should work for your space.

This one looks a little more modern and would bring some color over to that area:

You obviously have your heart set on a bench. I personally would put more storage or something like a buffet or sideboard in that space. If the bench has to stay then I would put a pattern print instead of plain white.

    Hello chocolatebunny,

Thank you for your suggestions. With regards to the bench, yes I do prefer a bench of some type in that space because we actually use it. I have enough storage and don't need another console/buffet.

There are long panels on the sliding glass door that you can't see in this pic that have the green and orange colors. I was also thinking of having some pillows made for the bench to bring in more of those colors.

I picked this drum pendant because I was told on my other thread that I needed something plain and simple. I can't win. LOL!! I really like the drum you posted above. Did you custom make this? I'll check it out.

    Thanks!!

I actually like the drum in the 1st pic - similar to yours sans the chrome trim -

I like the chairs - but wonder about the shiny chrome - lots of more traditional style currently exists in the space. I like transitional & even eclectic mix but wonder if in the eating space it will just sort of looked forced - in just the breakfast area (including the modern white leather bench)- unless you are willing to go modern in the adjoining areas as well. for example - a modern rug under table, different light fixture in hallway, changing the hardware on the cabs

You can easily change the table & existing bench do a darker stain color - Many here have used gel stain to do just that -

Watch the chair heights the 1st photo shop pics the chairs look to low

    - Would you consider staining the table & bench first and then make the following choices

    Best to you
    Hopefully Mag will chime in

Also, pics of the adjoining rooms to this would help

    mom2sethc-

I wouldn't say that your choices are safe at all. Looking at the rest of your kitchen and the bit of your family room I saw on the other thread, the modern white is definitely a statement. Even though this is vastly different than my style, I think the elements you have chosen will work well. The nice thing about the white bench is its versatility. You can bring in throw pillows that would bring in the orange, green and yellow to complete your look. Later on, if you still like the bench but want to change your color scheme all you have to do is change the pillows.

Mom2SethC, I think you've found some good choices.

Yes, the bench is a very Modern piece but the strong geometry of its base echoes the lines of your cabinets, the wood's color is a color that, via stain or a new table altogether, would go with the look in the photo you found, and the upholstery's grid picks up the floor tile. The chairs, too, were just what I had in mind, although Jejvtr is right about the scale of mine being a bit undersized. Like I said, those aren't cut-&paste items from Photoshop, they came straight out of my brain one pixel at a time, and by the time I got them done and realized they were too short, I didn't feel like spending another hour re-doing them. Obviously, you got the idea.

Anyway, the shape & the clean lines of both light fixtures is good, and you could stick with a white shade, although I'd look for a soft matte-finish metal or go with paint rather than the shiny chrome, since four chairs' worth of legs is already plenty of sparkle. The suggestion to maybe try a custom shade color rather than white isn't bad, either. Like I said in my first post, white is what the area needed to give a little more life to it's dark & kind of murky palette, but you don't want too much of it in a small area, or, as was mentioned, it could look like somebody else's dining area got delivered by mistake. So, while I don't care much for that scrolling leaf pattern, that orange/red color might be a good alternative for a custom shade, to better tie the front grouping to what's going on behind it, and since you've got the actual red/orange/whatever accent pieces with you, you'll know best which color would be best for the shade.

[And Alicate, on that other thread? You certainly don't need to apologize. Not, anyway, to me. Your follow-up question was perfectly reasonable and besides, I always like to give the benefit of the doubt to my fellow posters, and assume that don't have any bad motives. The hyper-sensitive taking-of-offense-on-behalf-of-other-people & the silly attempts at shaming posters for perceived slights & insults, and the attendant conunterattacks on the whiners that I see on other boards are the main reason I stay away from those places. That's schoolyard nonsense. It's nice being on a forum where people can have different tastes & express different opinions without all hell breaking loose. As the great decorator Elsie de Wolfe said, "Never complain, Never explain."]

Now I gotta run, friends. Time to find some inspiration.

Mom2- I like the chairs and the light, but I think your table is going to look great with them. I can see why you like the dark table, in that picture, but your table goes much better with your kitchen cabinets. The silver accents look good with the stools...and you're still keeping your curtains, right? I think your existing table will work out very well.

As for the settee or bench, I'd look for something with some color. While I like the white chairs, I think too much white will not match the rest of your room as well. I'd like to see something in a print with orange or yellow (or both) and maybe even some green. That could be the piece that really ties everything together, and reinforces the color scheme in your curtains.

Looks like you have some great ideas. Can't wait to see what you find, next :)

    Hello!

I am 100% sure of the chairs, so I purchased them today! I can't wait for them to arrive. I spent hours on the internet looking at various options and ended up going with the one above. It is from West Elm. The total cost including tax and shipping for 4 chairs was under $400! I am so excited, I really expected to pay around $300 per chair! THANK YOU magnaverde!!!!
Still thinking on the other elements...

jejvtr - below are some pics of my other rooms on the main floor. I have an open floor plan.

mom2sethc -- I like your choices, I think they will add a contemporary flair w/o being too "trendy".

I've enjoyed your postings (this one and the previous one)! It's nice to see a transition from typical to fab :-)

And I always enjoy reading Magnaverde's posts, too! I mostly lurk here.
