Do they go with the style of your house?

Most people only notice them if they are amazing: Amazingly pretty or amazingly ugly.

If they fit the period of the house, clean the glass and leave them alone.

I notice stuff like that. If they're ugly, why tolerate them when you could have something more attractive for not too much money?

What's your house style? There are some posters here with a great eye for light fixtures. Maybe they'll chime in if they know what style to work with.

I have a similar style with discolored metal base and a globe, I had my husband take down the bases and I spray painted them. It probably took longer to go get the spray paint than it did to take them down, paint them and put them back up.

It was worth it just for me to stop thinking about how ugly I thought the metal was.

Since you're selling, spray paint the bases and put them back up. Even if a buyer does not like them, something that small and inexpensive to replace won't kill a deal. And if you did replace them, a buyer might not like the new ones either...save your $ and let the buyer change them out.

That globe is really pretty dated...goes way back into the 60s, and not in a good way...those fixtures were cheap back then. If you can swap out the globe for not a lot of money, it would be a good thing.

Actually, the globes don't bother me at all. I like their vintage look. The house was built mid 80's and they were new then. It's the base that bothers me, and wondering if a more modern look would even be noticed by a buyer. I'm thinking not, at least not on a first walk through.

I don't even know what the style of our house is. 1980's basic brick ranch.
