Please help me pick a wall color for living room!

Hi!

My living room has a lot of windows and is facing north so we get a lot of light. We have chocolate brown furniture and an off-white shag rug. I am thinking of buying the "bull's Eye Silk Pillow" from west elm in Meadow color. As an accent chair I am also thinking of buying the "Upholstered Slipper Chair" in "flower dot" fabric.

Please help me find a wall color which will go with this combination. Some of the options that I am considering are "Van Deusen Blue" by Benjamin Moore, "Neuberg Green" or "Newbury Port Blue" for the accent wall. What color would be complimentary to this color for the remaining 3 walls. I want to post a picture of my room but unfortunately don't know how to insert pics.

I am open to any other color/accent suggestions.

I want to paint the wall behind the sofa with an accent color for which I have already posted my choices. The accent wall has 4 windows facing it.

The curtains are going to go...

Do you like the gold color that is featured in both the chair and the pillow? It looks similar to Laura Ashley gold #4.

Yeah, you got the picture thing down!

I am kinda thinking the light taupe below the rail all the way around the room. Do the yellow shade on top on the sofa wall. Leave the other walls the white shade. This could really look fun.

Ooh, I like that chair and pillow.
I would choose a grey that matches the chair for the 3 walls and get a blue close to the stripe in the pillow for the accent. The silvery/grey would look so gorgeous with all that white molding you have!

I think you have a great LR space! Gorgeous windows - would love to see the full view behind those curtains! Love your furniture selection. Just wondering if the accent wall might make the LR look more narrow? A different furniture arrangement might help to widen the room as well. Have you considered painting the entire room a color?

I am not a big fan of yellows/gold but I don't want to go the other extreme of really cool colors. I am looking for some options in between. I generally love warmer colors and I really want some color in the room because all the furniture is brown...

Is painting the accent wall going to make the long/narrow LR look even narrower??? If, yes then am open to painting the whole room one color.

Also the room also has two entryways at 2 ends (one on each side of the wall with the sofa)... so it is hard to place furniture. I am open to suggestions for furniture placement too.

Is there another lighter color on the Newburyport Blue chip?
Yes, I would do all the walls the same color...

I can't help with colors but just wanted to say I love the layout of your room. What type of overhead lighting are you using, or is it the camera?

The white on white is beautiful!

I also say gray, but a warmer tone. I immediately thought of BM Silver Fox!

I visited the Benjamin Moore store and looked at some color chips there. Loved the silver fox and am got a sample paint pot. Can you give me some suggestions for taupes that would work in the space?

    Thanks!

I just wanted to mention that northern light plus many blue shades can feel rather cold. I love blue, and maybe just an accent wall wouldn't create that feeling (or maybe you want it). I used a lovely blue-gray color with slight green undertones that I love (BM Mount Saint Anne) with lots of brown accents in the MBR that has several large windows facing north and east, and it just feels chilly in there.

Revere Pewter is a warm grey/taupe color and very popular here. Other taupe choices could be Valley Forge Tan AC 35 or Cape Hatteras Sand a bit lighter on same strip. Two other grey's are Ozark Shadows AC26 and Harbor Gray (lighter on same strip). A truer gray with a bit of a blue undertone is Coventry Gray HC 169. My daughter painted her bedroom this color and it's light and airy. It made her room look larger. It's a beautiful gray. My neighbor painted her bedroom a Valspar color from Lowes called Smooth Pebble. Very similar to Silver Fox.

I agree about not painting an accent wall. I would paint one color below the chair rail, (maybe the taupe) and a slightly more silvery gray above.

    BM Linen White

I think your room would look great with wallpaper on at least the top part. I did this really quick and its not all that but maybe it will give you some ideas. Beautiful room.

That is a great presentation. I love the wallpaper and the mirror in particular! The glass and nickel finishes really go well with the grey and the pillow and accent chair. Please, please tell me where to buy that sunburst mirror!!

Does the accent chair look smaller in scale than the rest of the furniture?

I think the mirror is John Richard, very expensive. You can of course get the same look much cheaper if you look around but always buy the best you can afford.

I do think the chair is too small in scale. I would forgo the chair at this point because you already have a good amount of seating and concentrate on the rest of the room. I also think the drapes should up over the windows, add fabric to the bottoms if you can't replace them.

I also would not worry so much about making the room lighter/brighter at this point. Worry about making it pretty and making it work for your lifestyle.

This is a very special room in that whatever you do to the walls will have major, major impact to the room. That includes the windows. This is way I think wallpaper would make such a great investment and maybe save you money in the long run. Otherwise I think you are going to have to have lots of art to keep it from being dull.

There are some wonderful people here to help you every step of the way. I know your room can look fabulous with careful investments.

Do you have anything else to go in the room? What are your favorite colors? Look at websites like Schumacher for inspritation. Let us know what you do.
