Want to help me choose accessories for blank slate bedroom(s)?

Thank you to everyone for all your help with my living and dining room. I'm not 100% complete yet, but I'm feeling so much better about the space. I dug out our family pictures, and that actually made all the difference in the world. It's amazing how it takes an impartial observer to notice the little things about someones space.

Anyway... now that the downstairs is in such good shape, I need to work on our guest rooms. We have two, but they literally have a mattress and box spring sitting on the floor with a dresser thrown in for good measure. I want to make these into cozy spaces for the guests I hope will visit us in droves, keeping in mind that I'm still a huge fan a simple living and decorating. Anyway, here is what I have so far...

A few notes.

1. Like I said, both of the rooms have dressers in them, but they don't match anything, so they can be swapped or removed.

2. My goal is to go very neutral in the rooms with the furniture and bedding and then accessorize with color in artwork, lamps, throw pillows and blankets, window treatments, etc.

Bedroom #1 (Warning! These pictures are not for the faint of heart. LOL!)

And here is the floorplan

Or an alternate layout

I just ordered the following furniture for this room

I'm thinking this bedding

and then using red and dark brown accents (bedside lamp, artwork, throw pillows for the bed and window treatements). I love this picture...

Bedroom #2

This room is a bit larger, but has a lot of doors, so the furniture placement is a challenge. We also have a king sized mattress for this room. Some of you might recognize it from the paint color, which I'm not convinced doesn't need to be redone, but intially, I was going to try to use orange as an accent color in here.

Here is the floorplan

And here is the bed I just purchased.

And this is the bedding I'm thinking of (in Linen)

I was thinking something like this for accent pillows and maybe lamps. I also like this artwork. I still need a bedside table.

So, what do you all think? I'm open to absolutely anything at this point. Moving furniture. Color ideas. Accessories. Window treatments. Anything.

If you've made it this far in my post, you deserve a super big star! Thank you! Jaymie

Where do all the doors go to? I want to move the beds in both rooms - I don't like walking into a room and walking right into the side of the bed. BR#1 is tough though - is the 3'4" door to a bathroom? I love the furniture you ordered, BTW!

ajsmama, I know the doors are crazy. In BR 1, the door on the bottom L is the entrance, the door in the upper L is a walk in closet and the small door on the bottom R the bonus closet. It has tons of shelves and we use it for toy storage. We tried to take advantage of every nook and cranny in the house in a "Not So Big House" kinda way, but the result is not a lot of wall space. In BR 2, the door in the lower L is the enterance, the huge double doors are the reach in closet and the door in the upper wall goes to unfinished storage. I don't anticipate it being opened often at all, but it is there, just the same. Can you think of a better way to arrange any of the furniture? Like I said, I'm open to removing furniture. Both dressers are sitting empty right now and could be removed. I'm not opposed to putting them in the basement for the time being. We will eventually have another guest bedroom down there as well...

Great job - you don't need any help. I like all of your choices. Simple and different from one another. I agree that I like the 2nd layout for BR 1 as I don't want to see the pillow part of a bed when I walk in, I'd rather see the foot of the bed.

I might also add seating - maybe a bench for BR 1 and either a bench/ottoman/chair for 2, depending on size of chair and placement. Somewhere to throw clothes.

As for the dressers, they look fine for the guest rooms. I'd leave them.

    Great job.

I would put the nightstand on the other side of the bed in BR#1, layout 2 - that way it's not so tight to walk around to that side of the bed (if you have a couple sharing the bed). Can you move the dresser in BR#2 closer to the door without making it hard to walk around? Again, I like to walk around the foot/sides of a bed without squeezing. If not, try angling it in the corner?

whenicit, Thanks, but I need LOTS of help! The other advantage to the 2nd layout in BR1 is that the headboard is rather high and if I put it along the wall, it won't block the windows which would probably be better. I'll see about adding seating when I get the beds assembled. We may have room and it would give me a project to scour antique shops. That is what I'm planning on doing for a nightstand in the second bedroom. A little shabby/chic, beachy. I was going to look through some "Real Simple" magazines for inspiration. I'm not sure exactly what I want yet, but I though a "weathered" table, perhaps in a fun color, would go nicely with the iron bed.

ajsmama, Thank you for the suggestion on BR1. I agree that swaping the nightstand is much better. On BR2, I think I could move the dresser closer to the door. The only think I actually don't like about the dresser in that position in general is that I'm not fond of the look of it from the side, but no mater how far forward or backward it is, I'm going to have that problem...

Thanks for all you help! Jaymie
