Lynxe, when you wrote "great rooms" it reminded me that I detest that name for a living room, family room or den. IMO, that's the most pretentious name for a room I've ever heard. My LR is great big, but it's still a living room.

Question about using "Pop of color." I use it all the time only because there's nothing else to get the meaning across. Touch of color? No. A pop of color to me means a noticeable color. Who wants to write "noticeable" all the time?

And I adore stretch jeans! lol. Especially when playing with my two toddler grandchildren.

I love topics like this because they're non-offensive and I think most of us have several things other's don't care about. So what? This is a "getting to know you" type topic where we come out of the closet with our dislikes. It's fun and light-hearted.

...that some people think that houses with a porch can't have a dark door color because it will look like a black hole. Unless you are painting with a glow in the dark paint, I don't really think that a lighter color will make that much difference. Turn the lights on, gosh darnit.

I'm tired of having to return things because the quality is beyond carp.

I'm tired of buying things that cost more than they did a year ago but are also half the size.

I'm tired of seeing holiday decor back on shelves earlier and earlier every year. Used to be October, this year it was August. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

I'm tired of the "me me me" attitude of people these days, when did we become so self absorbed?

Lastly, I'm tired of trying to figure out how to put our living room together. It's the last room to go and after 6 years I'm still at a complete loss.

We are a tired people it seems! Who wouldn't be with the marketers shoving everything down our throats. I was at the gym the other day and on three tvs in front of me was one marketing show about women losing weight, one marketing plastic surgery and I forget the other but definately something about a woman "improving" herself in one way or another. No wonder its so easy to feel like you don't measure up.

I am tired of sheet sets. I want to be able to buy flat sheets all by their lonesome again - mitered corners to fit any depth of mattress; lining for curtains; curtains - so many uses.

Poly929 LOL! It completely makes sense. I am rennovating a house and have a garage full of cabinets that are wood because I was sick of the white ones at my old house and I keep thinking...maybe I should have done white. The new ones aren't even installed and I'm second guessing yet part of me knows, it is just my kitchen, not life or death.

I've enjoyed reading all these (and agree with lots of them!) I'm tired of feeling my totally original 70's kitchen is "outdated". It is immaculate & I can't see doing a demolition of perfectly new looking 70's cabinets. All my appliances are new though.

I'm tired of waiting for David Bromstad to come over for margaritas on the deck. Remember, we invited him....

I'm tired of the fact that there is NO HOMEGOODS where I'm moving.

And yeah, I'm tired of the supposed home buyers who have been through my house who are just "casually looking"....then WHY ARE THEY HERE??? They are all just snooping.

Why, why, why Won't David Bromstad come for those margaritas? geez

Southerngal, I completely agree about things being called "out dated" or "dated." Even better than that is decorating styles (especially in the year 2011), being dated from the previous decade which means we MUST change our cabs, etc., because they look soooo 2000. Even though it's only 2011!

I guess this is a pet peeve of mine but I don't understand people asking questions about something being in style or not. Who cares? I don't know of one person who decorates because of what other's think.

I am tired of paying an arm and a leg to get my wool area rug cleaned! Drives me insane

non decorating related= I am tired of coloring my gray roots every 5 weeks :o( Dying to just let it go gray.

I'm tired of the "Keep Calm and Carry On" saying on signs, posters, mugs, jewelry, clothing etc.

Handwritten cursive words on fabric. Can we just bring back cursive writing so we don't have to use it decoratively in this manner?

Great thread, I am smiling at all the posts.

Bee, i just had my home on the market a few months ago. I got a call for a showing and was told it was a realtor preview. I did the vac, dust, microfiber cloth, show towels, bathroom cleanup to the whole house. We were told by the showing service we could be home but sent the kids off to play elsewhere. The realtor who showed up was a neighbor with her husband! HER FREAKING HUSBAND. Yes she was a realtor, no she didn't have a client and we had an open house scheduled in two days. I was steamed the whole day. If she had just knocked on the door and said hey can I check out your house without me going through the two hours of work!!!

OT to Bee: My advice, tell every person you meet you are selling your home. I ended up selling to the woman next to me at the nail salon, and the same day a neighbor called to see if her friend could buy my house.

I agree with the dated this and dated that. Certain styles are classic. White 4x4 tiles are never dated. Natural wood finishes are never dated. I am getting so old some of the new stuff looks like it is dated to me.

Oakley - "Not really catalog, but green walls. There has GOT to be another "in" color besides green."
Yeah, it's the white and gray we see so much. ;)

I'm just curious, do you wear green clothes or is it just paint you don't care for? I noticed recently the colors I like to decorate with and look at are also the colors I wear.

I could also live without all the signs with quotes.

Being told that "Your red, black, and white kitchen will absolutely *ruin* your house for resale" (Who cares? I'm not buying it to sell it, I'm hoping to be dragged out feet first)

Blue and yellow mixed together. I'm a huge fan of blue and white together, but lately, all I find is blue paired with yellow. Blue and white always had such a clean, calm, look to me, like clouds and sky.

Of it being "almost" time to move, but not quite time yet.

Packing (So much I can't do now, because I still need this stuff!)

My cats fighting. (Clearly they sense something is up, so they've decided to fight with each other, all day and all night)

And, because I don't want to sound like a downer...

    Things I'm excited about

    MOVING! My first house!

Being able to buy new stuff for the new house (twenty years married and almost everything we have was donated or "inherited" from various family members. This is the first time we'll be able to pick out our own furniture!)

Peach pie. (I made some today and it is delicious)

Valium! (For the cats, for when we move. Not for me.)

I'm tired of being surrounded by stupid people. They are everywhere! If you take a job in a desired field please take the time to learn your job. I try to learn new things everyday and so should people on my dime. Don't pass the buck, I WILL check. Don't become a drama queen to try and distract from being an idiot. Don't give me little jobs to keep me occupied while you figure out what the hell you are doing. Please make a list of things needed from me and give it all to me at the same time. Please stay organized so you do not have to make yourself look more of an idiot by asking for things already given. Don't say "I'll get right on it" when it's too late.
To put my big moaning post to point...example: I should not take a job as an editor. I know this! Yet a lot of other idiots take jobs that they should not and I AM SICK of IT!!! Whatever happened to training???
Oh, and I am still tired of being tired!

I'm so tired of resin crap! Give me REAL wood, ceramic, etc, etc, etc. If you break something it can't be glued back easily. Hate the stuff! ;o)

Travertine and the 100 faces of beige. Didn't like it in the early 80's, really don't like it now. A friend recently redid a bathroom and I couldn't believe my eyes: all peachy sand tile with sage rope trim, could have been dropped in straight from 1982.

Untenable materials used for kitchen work surfaces. If you have to repeatedly slather it with plastic goop, you really shouldn't be cooking on it.

Shopping as lifestyle. Newsflash: if you have to invent a life with Chinese resin trinkets from home goods stores, it's time to get a more interesting life.

    ;-)

Folks who know best what works for you and your home, even if they wouldn't know you if they literally ran into you on the street.

    The words "pop" and "repurpose".

Cookie cutter kitchens, or any rooms, really. So what if I want to paint my kitchen walls black (I didn't, BTW, just making a point.) And so what if I want to hang 57 potato mashers on my walls for that country look? I'm living there, no one else.

Whew! Thanks for the rant. It felt delicious.

Bee! If I lived in your area I'd be one of those snoopers! :)

"Gifting." Whatever happened to giving? Am I a bad person because I give when I ought to gift?
    And that reminds me:
People who "could care less about" things that they "couldn't care less about"! Or maybe it's Freudian slip?

Resin for me, too. I'm looking for a figural table lamp for our living room turning den, and always like Wildwood lamps. I found a really cute one, with a frog on a book (frog is relevant because of my beloved grandson). It was described as hand painted faux ceramic. Am I mistaken, or isn't that resin??? I don't care how much I like something, if it's resin, I move on.

Finally finding something I love and want to buy again only to find that it's been discontinued (makeup, bras, colors, etc.).... just about immediately after I've bought the first one.

    Conspicuous consumption.

The me, me, me attitude that is everywhere in our country.

The fashion trends that encourage women and girls to look like street walkers.

Lots of good ones for sure.

    Pop of Color.
    Chippy.
    Man Cave.

And gray. I gravitate immediately to gray clothing. And I hate wearing it. I feel blah and frumpy and depressed. Yet I go straight to it every time. I found myself picking up a beautiful sweater the other day and then I realized it was gray. Put it back on the rack and walked out of the store.

And I agree with bluebird. I am so sick of my favorite chapstick, panties, or bras being discontinued that I could SCREAM.

Oops, forgot the one that I am so sick of hearing about the most.

Facebook/Myspace. That I MUST have one. No I mustn't. I've lived all these years without one and I do not believe that I will die if I don't get an account.

What is it with bras? I have the same thing happen too.

that marketers have convinced the public we need to make a big deal about every holiday & how many have literally bought into it
trick or treaters & Halloween decorations
how the powder room looks(it's on my list for improvement)
how my DH's office looks (another thing on my list)
my lack of attention, energy, focus to get to my list

Offtopic i suppose, but if you are looking for a discontinued makeup color, I have used the co below to make me a MAC shade they had retired.

Here is a link that might be useful: custom lipstick remakes

Missing the start of great threads!

Mtnrdredux, I've used 3 Custom to match a lipstick too. Very pleased!

Kitchendetective- "People who "could care less about" things that they "couldn't care less about"!" That's always been one of my pet peeves! Yes! Makes no sense at all.

Also, "irregardless!" Sure, it's in the dictionary, but it's just wrong to use this word. It drives me nuts. It's a double negative. "Ir" negates what comes after it, and "less" negates what precedes it. Regardless of how good it may sound to some, it's not good to use this word!

Sorry guys but I am really tired of the office craze....why does everyone all of a sudden need an office in their new home.

I don't think there's anything new about home offices. When we bought this house 30 years ago someone was using one of the bedrooms as an office. We've done the same ever since.

oakley- on the great room comment. I thought a "great room" was actually a combination of rooms like kitchen/dining/LR that were all open to each other?

But after looking it up online, maybe I am using the term incorrectly?

The term great room denotes a room space within an abode which combines the specific functions of several of the more traditional room spaces (e.g. the family room, the living room, the study, etc.) into a singular unified space. Great rooms are typically at or near the center of the house, feature raised ceilings, and have been common in American homes since the early 1990s.

    My apologies! :)

I agree that home offices aren't new-- we've always had one. But they could be more popular in this day and age because more and more people are doing at least some portion of their work out of their homes, whether it's through telecommuting or just having to be accessible 24/7. So I don't think this is a "craze" that's going away any time soon.

I work from home. In order to get all of the write offs from the IRS we are required to have a separate room that is used just for the purpose of work. I suspect just like us, the demand is due to the amount of people now working from home. I think it's a lot more purposeful than the formal dining rooms that so many people wanted 10-15 years ago and are now trying to convert into a space that can offer more function for their daily living.

I agree with most of these (except grey - I really do like it :) but I am so tired of the "for resale" line of thinking.

I have had complete paralysis in trying to pick out a stupid laminate for my countertops. My mind is telling me to do something "neutral" because you just never know when we might want to sell this house....yet I would love to do something completely unexpected.

I also am completely tired of reality shows as well....especially the Kardashians.

Shee, I don't like certain shades of green on walls. I realize I'm in the minority here, but that's fine!

I do like pastel green walls. The kind you'd find in a cottage style house. Also, and this is just me, the popular green on walls (truth be told it's Olive) I'm seeing, well, personally I think the color clashes with most woods.

Yes, I do wear a lot of green because my eyes are green! lol I have a lot of green accessories. I have an over stuffed chair that's green. Which means I love green, but not Olive on walls. Since I decorate in jewel tones, green is an important color in my home.

Not sure about your comment on "white" and the little winky winky. I'm assuming you're talking about my white kitchen and beadboard? Interesting because I recall you wanting a white kitchen along with white beadboard in your entryway, and down the stairs. ;) White kitchens and beadboard are classics. They will never go out of style or look dated. I've been wanting a white kitchen and white beadboard since I was in my early 20s.

I hardly ever see white walls any longer, (if that's what you're talking about), but I do like white walls tremendously since there are many shades of white to choose from.

Which brings me back to green. The green you and others use is pretty much the same shade of green and it's about the only green I see. That particular shade of green is trendy right now and has been for a few years. I'm not one to follow fads and trends so it could be overkill for my eye's.

Whenever someone paints a green wall, it's usually the same shade I dislike. I can't help it! lol Also, I shouldn't have to defend my dislikes either.

Try not to take my remarks personally because it's fun and interesting to find outt what fellow posters dislike.

I also agree with you about gray. :)

Good thing this thread is almost done.

Oakley, how you could understand one part of Shee's sentence and not the other white/gray is beyond me.

"Why, why, why Won't David Bromstad come for those margaritas? geez"
If he does, can I come too? I'll make margaritas in a different color in his honor. ;-)

Re the black, white and red kitchen -- I'd have been one your realtor didn't count on. I love those colors together and in kitchens and baths. Royal blue with black and/or white too.

Re the home office -- we were so happy to have a study in this house and found we didn't use it. We moved the desk into our bedroom and are in the process of turning the room into an exercise room -- something we never had space for. With laptops, wireless networking and printing, you can work from any room and no one was using the study. No one was using the treadmill upstairs because it could be heard in the master bedroom downstairs and was a problem during the hours when we wanted to use it most. Maybe we'll start a trend. Oh well, works for us! Wish we'd done it sooner.

Long time lurker.....first time poster. I am tired of a trend that repeats over and over on these topics. One poster states they are tired of XYZ and out comes the people needing to defend their choice to have XYZ. Or worse they bash the persons post telling them the 150 reasons they should have granite, grey walls, hardwood, home offices, burlap..so on and so on.
    Live and let live

i'm tired of threads on the kitchens forum that start out with, "anyone else tired of seeing white kitchens?" or "enough with the white kitchens already" or "what's up with all the freaking white kitchens?"

and, "is marble okay in a kitchen?" or "GC told me i can't use marble in a kitchen".

but mostly i'm tired of a build that is taking over three years to complete so by the time it actually is finished i or everyone else will be completely sick of the finishes i selected ...five years ago. sighhh.

    I'm tired of . . . intolerance and unkindness.

On a lighter note.... I'm tired of the furniture and accessories that DH picked out. But he doesn't often voice a strong opinion about these things, let alone buy them, so I smile when I see his picks. If he's happy with them then so am I.

In addition to remote workplace arrangements, the home office is the place for the computer(s) and printer(s). I think it would be called "computer room" but home office sounds better
