Can you help me decorate/accessorise dining area....PICS

It looks so bare, and I don't have any idea what to do. The windows don't leave equal amounts of space in the corner, and that really throws me off. Would you do drapery panels? I'm not a huge fan of valances, but I do like panels. Should I stick with things like frames, or would some sort of shelving be better? I've even thought about doing some kind of vinyl wall art over there. We have several pieces of that throughout our home though, and I don't want to over-do a good thing.

The kitchen is right next to the dining area, so I will post a photo of that too. When I look in the kitchen I love the warm homey feeling it gives me, but then when my eyes move over to the table area it feels so cold and out of place. Any ideas?

The windows are an easy fix. Especially since you like panels. All you have to do is make the windows appear to be the same size. To do so you'll have to purchase and size the rods as if both windows were the size of the bigger one. Without knowing measurements I can't be sure, but I think this will allow for an even distance between panels and the corner, making that area easier to decorate. You could even place a corner cabinet there.
Once the rods are hung the panels will be hung as if both windows are the size of the smaller one. Meaning more of the panels on the large window will actually cover the window. Where as on your smaller window they'll just cover the edges enough so it looks like it could be bigger.

Since it's hard to explain things so other's can understand I also "drew" you a picture using Paint.

I think your kitchen cabinets are fabulous. I would definitely go with drapes in that room. How about a carpet underneath the table. I know my husband wouldn't go for that in our house (he is terrified of crumbs) however I think it would really warm up the space.

I would also add some art. That is a very nice table. I am in the process of looking for a dining room table myself. Enjoy!!

Definitely need textiles and other things with textures. No rug, I'm just not a fan of rugs under the dining table (unless it's a formal room). But a runner or even mats would be nice on the table. Definitely window treatments, and some nice artwork on the walls. Also, if you could, I'd change out the bar stools for something more comfy, probably with a padded seat.

I think you need to paint your kitchen stools black. The white is such a stark contrast that my eye goes to the stool immediately.

While the kitchen space is pretty traditional and homey, I think you can go a little more modern in the dining room. Panels in a shade that coordinates with that sofa might be nice--like a raw silk or burlap texture (real burlap is a big pain, but I think the Ballard ones aren't as prone to shedding). You could do the seat cushions to match, or pick another fabric that goes well.

I don't think you need much in there--maybe a good sized live plant, like a fiddle head fig, in the corner between the windows.

I agree with all of the above..all that's needed is window treatments with color and some pictures. Also, a nice centerpiece for your lovely table. As far as the bar stools...I agree, I would paint them. Right now, the white color jumps out against the warm tones of your cabinets and counter...JMO

Oh, and I wasn't really suggesting red curtains. Just took the clue from the red apples in on your island. Not sure how they turned so bright though. I was going for a deep red like the apples.

If I remember right Robin had a dicussion awhile back about her stools. I don't remember if anything had been decided yet or not.

I think the stools need to be painted either the wall color or black. The white is too stark, as was mentioned. Or, pick an accent color that you want to use in window treatments in the DR area, and paint the stools in that color to make the whole space seem cohesive.

I wouldn't probably do drapery panels. I would add painted casing around the windows to match the doorways, and make the window sill feel connected to something. Then I would likely do some kind of decorative fabric valances in a rich print that brings in the wall color, some of the brown/black of the furniture, and whatever accent color is a spark for you.

A tall, full plant in the corner between the windows. Paint the inside of your niche in the accent color, too, and see if you can get a piece of granite that matches your counters to use as a bottom ledge for the niche.

    Your home is charming!

Personally, I would prefer to see panels or roman shades. You have a bare room and need to add texture. Ditto on painting the bar stools. That was my very first thought: Get rid of the white. I would also change out the outlets to something that blends in with the backslash.
Some pottery on the wall, maybe some plates or a big picture would be nice.
    It will all look great!

Hi! I'm rushing off to work - but how about a little something decorative above the pantry?
For example...but bigger and not white for you!
