Interior Designer?? Or Just good with decorating?

I previously had posted a question on this room, but now have figured out how to post two pictures at once.

Here is my delima. I have a room off my kitchen that is 19ft x 13 ft. It is a wierd shape room that has a 12 Ft door that opens to the back yard.

I would like to use this room as a TV / Family room. Future plans would be to add a fireplace somewhere in this room. Ideally a wood stove type.

As for furniture, I have a sofa ( black leather) that is just short of 6 ft. a love seat, and chair. Lots of end tables that could be used as well as coffee table.

My plan is to take up the carpet and add laminate flooring to this room.

Any idea's of where i could position the TV.? I have a 55" flat panel tv, and some speakers.

I'm debating either on the wall beside the stairs? or back between the windows..

Any IDEAS?

    SOfa,
is the tv going to fit on the 2 small window wall?
If it fits between them, then you could buy some room darkening drapes to put up so you can view it on that wall.
Ideally, that is the wall I would use for the wood stove. It's an outside wall which would make installation ALOT easier for you, so mabey put the TV against the big wall and use room darkening drapes for your big doors, you need to block the light during the day to see the TV.
It would work if you went with a sectional, furniture will be everything in that placement.
I would divide the space up like this, the area by the stairs would be my computer station.
The middle of the room in front of the big doors, would be my TV area, and in between the two windows, would be my wood stove.
You could place the furniture to create a feeling of 3 distinct areas, including adding mabey a couple small comfy chairs by the wood stove.
But to pull this off, light blocking window treatments and positioning of the furniture are key.
AND area rugs for the computer area and TV viewing area, sectionals are ideal.
Why do you want to replace the carpet?
    Is it old and ratty?
It looks new in the pic.

    Thank you for your advice,
The carpet is new, but I have an addition of a dog. He will be using the back door to enter and exit, and after time the white carpet will most likley be ruined.

Here once again is my suggestion for a layout for your room. The room doesn't really lend itself to a fireplace location..

    Agreed,

I think that may be the best idea. I'm going to try that and see how we like it. I guess the fireplace could also be put beside the stairs, or if I was skilled enough could build a built in fireplace below the TV.. will most lilkey have to resort to gas or electric though.

Not a decorator here, but if it were my room, I'd put the big TV on the wall by the stairs. I love windows and would hate having to drape them just to watch TV. You'd really have to drape the Arcadia doors, too.

Depending on what direction the windows face you might find the curtains do not need to be pulled for TV watching.

Seems to far to put the TV next to the stairs.

I have a relative who has this same layout, and they installed the kids computers in the niche next to the stairs so they could monitor what was being viewed by their children and their friends.

I was going to say that niche looked like a good place for a desk. Beverly's idea about putting the kids' computer there is perfect.

What do you mean by Future? Next year, five years from now, when we can afford it (never), when I can talk my DH into it?

The dark brown window wall seems to be the place for such a stove but that also looks like the perfect place for a TV. Perhaps you make a mantel to hold the TV above the FP?

I would make a TV viewing seating at that end with the long couch facing the two windows/ TV/ FP.

Then I would make a separate conversation area by the stair with a game table, perhaps a table that could be expanded for several people or crafting, etc. The type of table/cabinet linked from Tomkiel can be hidden away in the cabinet, left "open" with room for 4 to sit at it and when needed, expand to accommodate 15.

Lilylore, the room is only 13' wide. With your drawing if she uses a 36' deep loveseat and 96" long sofa with chaise, she only has 2' between the window and the edge of the sofa. Not enough room.

If you want the fireplace to be an aesthetic feature, I don't have anything to add. But a wood stove could be placed in one of the corners of the window wall. Something like this:

Thank you for the feedback. We are only a family of two at the moment in our 30's. We do not have any children.

The picture above is almost perfect to what I would like to put in this room. Both for cheap heat, but also for that cosy feeling in the winter time.

I would like to put a fireplace in as soon as possible. Can you get any of these corner units in Canada?

I haven't been able to find any!!

Your ceilings look tall and there is lots of space for more than one seating group.
Recently I feel in love with a design that makes me want a room like yours. I know its a bit off the deep end but it's inspirational for a room such as your own.
I'm not really helping you with your seating arrangement though sorry.
ps, that's not a doll in the pic its a model. The home owner is a fashion designers.

The pic I posted was from a UK site. Not sure if you can get them in the US or Canada.

The site below is a manufacturer that lists some Canadian dealers. But they don't have any corner units quite like the pic. They do have some units that look like they'd work in a corner. And the dealers they link to may carry other brands.

Kinda depends on how wide your butt is :)

I didn't measure the pieces, I assumed the homeowner would do that. I just used the ones they provided at the potterybarn site. Yes, there are narrower sofas with a chaise, or two love seats may be the best suited for the room.

    good luck with the room...
if you don't mind could you please tell me how to post multiple photos in one posting?

    Thanks

If this were my room, I would lay it out something like this.

Another image to show the layout. I used all of your dimensions. I used two sofas for balance. You could do your sofa and loveseat this way. The measurements would definitely fit. I find this seating arrangement cozy and more conducive for conversation and tv watching. The chair would be a nice place to sit and read.

    Hope this helps!

I just realized I had the stairs on the wrong side of the room. Here it is corrected.

aktillery, which program do you use to do those renderings?

I like that arrangement, by aktillery, but I would push the far couch up against the wall and everything else down. The only reason I didn't do that layout, is because I was putting the FP between the windows, I like an FP along an outside wall, if possible, but that's my preference. The OP could replace that side chair with her Wood Burner.

I don't think I'd push it flush to the wall. I don't know why but I always like furniture at least slightly away from a wall, if possible.

You have a wonderful backyard. I rather like the two sofas facing each other with the TV on the long wall. I think you could do a free standing gas stove in the corner by the stairs. We did it in our last house and it was very efficient heating (if you have gas). We did a direct vent out the side and it looked great. It was on an angle in the corner.

The area beside the stairs is 4 feet by 8 feet.. i think this should be enough room for a wood stove

I think the place between the walls would be the most appropriate as it will not receive the sunlight directly. Moreover, you can also place curtains on the wall itself.
