What style of lamps would you suggest?

Forgive the untucked sofa cover. Ok, these living lamps are so old, from J.C. Penney's, I think. They used to be bright brass but I spray painted them to cover up the scratches, etc. And that was maybe 10 years old. Today I was moving the table on the left and the cord was caught on the leg. Well, the right lamp came crashing down. Now, it is all metal with a black wood base so it could be repaired. The lamp is made of 3 pieces of metal that sit atop one another and are glued. But considering these are as old as they are - maybe 20+ years, not sure. what style would you suggest if I were to replace them? The Ethan Allen tables are staying for now. Or should I just fix them?

Thanks for any ideas. I do not have a big budget.

I think the one from the other side of the room is much more current/modern looking. Maybe something like that? Can you try moving it over and taking a picture to see what it would look like?

I'd get some new lamps if it were me. I think you got your money's worth out of that purchase!

You've got a few styles going with the arts/crafts coffee table on that side but a crystal lamp on the table...Have you thought about doing a lamp with a glass globe in the middle and the bronze metal? Restoration Hardware has some beautiful ones, and they have a lamp similar to your existing crystal lamp, so you could compare - they can be pricey tho. Actually, I was at Target the other day and noticed they had some really pretty glass/Oil rubbed bronze lamps for about $40.

LOL, Kathryn. The lamp on the other side is inherited from my mother. It's probably from the 1940's, maybe earlier, although I bought a new shade for it. Isn't that funny how a much older yet classic style could look more contemporary than the brass ginger jar lamps?

I do love the crystal lamp look very much. I bought this one for this mirrored chest because I saw the lamp on the Closer (TNT tv show) in the charcter Brenda's apartment. Of course, she had the big one and I bought the smaller one.

Of course, this crystal lamp is an art deco style. My tables from Ethan Allen are Early American redone by EA. They are part of the Circa 1776 collection, no longer available.

    Thanks Kathryn.

Hmm, thanks for mentioning Resoration Hardware.

    I like this one:

It's based on a Palladian style which is classic.

It comes in bronze too. Although they are only 25" tall wnile my crystal lamp is 27" tall with shade and the brass lamps ar 30" tall with shade.

How about a pair of these? The gourd styling is very 'now', yet I think the curves would work nicely with your traditional tables. I like the colors in the lamp, too, which connect with the blue in the room.

I like the first one from RH but Les's selection is nice as well. BTW, Threegrad, love the mirrored chest.

Thanks Les. Somehow, the shape of that lamp is not really talking to me. And the base is skimpy. I do appreciate the uniqueness though. The color is very interesting.

Something about lamps. It's really hard to find ones I really like. That's probably why I have had these old ones for so long. But I think it is time to get new ones, probably unbreakable items. Between me, thew doig and the cats, unbreakable is best. Thanks again.

the dog not "thew doig" - cat was rubbing up to me - LOL

    Would this work?

Les, I see why you chose that lamp - it echoes the leg of the William and Mary legged, octagon topped end table.

I looked up Robert Abbey lamps which is the brand of the crystal lamp on the mirrored chest. I found this brass finished lamp from them which is an updated version of what I have.

Turns out the Restoration Hardware lamps posted above are knockoffs of Robert Abbey lamps which sell for $439 each because they are lead crystal and not just glass.

Les and Threegrad tell me if I'm wrong but I would actually think a lamp with some color or clear like the 1st RH lamp would be better. It seems to me that the darker and/or wider lamps make the table top look heavier.

I am not at all on the decorating level of you two so if I'm wrong just ignore.

I love the lamp with the black shade that you already have! Have you considered going with a darker shade? I think the lighter shades blend into the window treatments.

I am seeing more and more dark shades and I think they are great. (Probably a bit of a cleaning headache.)

Thanks all. I think this simple style might be the one - Kichler, Bronze finish, vertical ribbed base - but it is about 3 1/2" shorter than the brass look ones I have. Do you think this shape and a shorter height would work? I pasted this picture in my room via Photoshop but it is probably still a bit tall in my paste up work. It is decribed as
"Warm and comfortable style from Kichler Collections, this modest table lamp is a staple in the casual decor. A burnished bronze finish is accented by a linen hard back empire shade. The ribbed base table lamp will bring an urban look to your room." LampsPlus has it for $149.99 with free shipping; another place has ir for $128 with free shipping.

Does this one work better than what I have?

I just found this last lamp from Kichler for $108 wach with free shipoing at lightinguniverse.com. That site seems to have the best prices. Anyone cheaper with free shipping?

Ditto the advice about Target. They have some great designs and you can bring them home, try them out, and bring them back with no problems. I'm not nuts about their furniture, but their lamps and shades are an incredible value.

Thanks. Most of the lamps I saw online at target.com are not available in the stores but you can return them at the store and that part is good. Thanks again. Maybe I should just fix my lamp, paint them a dark bronze shade, and buy them new shades that are shaped differently.

I found this one on lightingdirect.com

I like an eclectic look. Is this lamp work at all? Thanks.

    Sorry - I am tired.

To tell you the truth ThreeD, if your lamp is truly fixable I'd keep it and get new shades. Possibly drum shades like the one on the last lamp you pictured. It's similar in shape to your brass ones. With all the wonderful spray paints by Krylon and Rust Oleum, you can have almost any finish you want for way less than a new set of lamps even counting the shades too. In fact you'd probably save at least half over two new lamps with shades.
