Impressive! Cabinets look fantastic!

Wow, that looks great! Congratulations on doing a great job. I've painted cabinets and it's a LOT of work. Stripping wallpaper is no picnic either. You should be very proud of yourself! The kitchen definitely looks more updated now.

I'm very reluctant to paint wood that is in good shape as it becomes harder to upkeep in my experience. So I'm not sure how to advise you on those beautiful doors. I might just leave them as is. Or ask at the hardware store if it's possible to put on some sort of whitewash stain or glaze that isn't as much upkeep as paint?

For accessories, how about a cute cookie jar, maybe one decent sized figurine, baskets, silk or better yet living greenery, and plates on the wall? A few choice pictures might look great next to your door, all framed in the same colored frames. How about a nice runner on the table?

For a valence, do you sew? I'll put in a link to my favorite valance pattern place... just click on Picture Gallery and you can enjoy seeing many pictures, different styles and fabrics. If you see one you like, maybe you can print it out and print out the pic of your dining room, cut out the valance and place it on your door to get an idea how it would look? Even if you don't sew that could help you find just the right thing -- or maybe someone would sew it for you?

...Maybe that's just because I want to paint my kitchen red, though? LOL My kitchen right now has cream cabinets, white appliances, light colored counter tops and the walls are pale yellow. It's got too many colors that are too close together and I"m tired of it. My living room and kitchen are side by side and the wainscot in the living room is painted a deep red so I got the idea of taking the red in the kitchen as the wall color instead of just accents BUT I worry because it's a smaller area than what your kitchen is. I haven't convinced myself that all of the white and cream will lighten the area enough....I wish I could just convince myself and go for it!

That's quite a difference! My suggestion would be to warm up the ceiling, paint the tile since you'll be replacing it later, and add crown mouldings to the cabinets and ceiling. Colorful accessories around the room and you're good to go for a long time to come!

OMG, snickysnaker that looks GREAT. You are getting me motivated to paint mine. Did you use a roller? If so what kind? Also what kind of brush did you use? I think that I am going to wait and do mine in the spring once the weather warms up because I will have to do a lot of it in my garage and it is a little chilly right now. You did a GREAT job. You should be so proud of yourself.

Looks great! And you did a fantastic job on those cabs. We're getting ready to paint 3 yr old oak cabinets. I'll be sure to be coming to you for advice :)

Have you considered some temporary backsplash colour? I saw these tile stickers at Home Depot - I know they had plain colours as well as designs. You could add a few random ones to break up the white between the cabinets and the backsplash.

Beautiful! It looks amazing, and I take my hat off to you, and a deep bow for stripping that wallpaper off, as I hate to do that with a passion. I have also painted kitchen cabs, and had rather do that than strip wallpaper! It was much more satisfying.

A pretty rug under the table would be nice as well.

LOVE the amazing transformation!!! LOVE the red! Lots of hard work and it sure pays off big!

And the whte backsplash works SO well with the cabinets and the white appliances that it looks fresh and brand new! so I would not change it!

Instead -- consider switching the light fixture to a long track light (those track lights have come a LONG way from the old days! LOL!) And perhaps a chandelier in the eating area (we did that switch -- from a fan to a chandelier and we love how it really warmed up the eating area)

Is there room for a tiny island in your kitchen? Then you could add a lighted potrack to replace the overhead fixture ....... just a thought!

That looks wonderful! My parents painted their cabinets once also and said never again! I KNOW it's a lot of work. I really like your backsplash. I can understand wanting to re-do the counters at some point, although they aren't bad, but I love the white tile with your new wall and cabinets. Great job!

The backsplash looks fine just the way it is, what a difference a "little" paint job makes. The countertops also look much better now. The only things I would change are the light fixture and remove the valance altogether. The pretty doors with the new colors are plenty, IMO.

Wow, what an amazing change! It looks great Snickysnacker! I don't know, you might be able to just change out the hardware and get a few more years out of your countertops.

We also painted cabinets once, and won't do it again. It's a huge job and very time-consuming if you're going to do it right (sanding, prepping, painting).

Now sit back with a glass of real eggnog and enjoy the holidays in your "brand new" kitchen.

Too funny, when I first saw...I thought some plate hung above the cabs would be great and then I see Squirrels photoshop. Look at TUesday morning or Target for some cheap plates.

Squirrelheaven- Thanks for the photoshopping!! I filed that in my clippings so I can refer to it. Where do we keep the nuts/? There are 4 of them currently residing in this joint!! Trying to keep out the rest of the nuts is the challenge, haa haa.
Lauraa- yes, I used a foam 4"roller. I also used 1 1/2" good quality purdy brushes (angled). I would definitely recommend waiting til spring to do yours b/c it takes about 2 weeks or so with all the prep time and wait time in between coats. You dont want to be out in the garage for any length of time when its really cold.
Momto4boys- if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer as best I can. I actually followed step-by-step instructions that I found in the paint forum under "Cabinet Coat" although I used SW paint.
carriem25- love the temporary backsplash idea. Was considering changing out my 3D tiles and putting these in- what do you think??

Not sure how difficult it is to remove random tiles, that's something to consider.
Oh yes, I definitely will replace the light fixture too, as someone had mentioned and I will put in some version of a track light.

Golly, you know, I like those grape tiles! They're different, not what everyone else has, and they're pretty.

Those tiles are actually very pretty! Can't really see what's going on in the first photo. You might tuck a tole platter or something in along the splash just to get a little more color or pattern (wide).
