Subway Ceramics makes a beautiful 2" x 6" subway tile.

Walker Zanger also makes some wonderful 2" x 6" subways.

cool tiles have 2x6 in cream glass for $16.20 a sq. ft.

Walker Zanger Gramercy Park comes 2 x 6 in white, bone china (ivory), beige and other colors. It is about $20 SF.

I searched exhaustively for this for several months...sadly it doesn't exist for under $18/SF (Subway Ceramics, but they don't do colors). After that it heads north of $25/SF. If you can swing that, there are some nice options---there's an old thread listing several, including Heath (handmade but we went to look at them and they thought we could probably pull off a skinnier grout line than their recommended 3/8") and I think Sonoma Tile and a company in Portland whose name escapes me. If you're open to glass there are some more options, too. We finally gave up and used 3" x 6" instead.

I visited the Walker Zanger showroom nearby and I found it!!! Thanks for the tip. i got a 2x6 canvas tile for $9.99/sq yd. I am so excited. Thanks for all the input. I will post pics when it goes in!

subway tile IS cheap because it's pretty ubiquitous. But, it is also 3" x 6". Made by lots of manuf. and costs around $1.75- $2.25 a sq ft.

You want a non standard size: 2x6 and there's the rub. Few manuf., fewer sales so that equals higher $$$.

Hey breadandsuch - you sure about the terms ??? $10 a square yard is stupid cheap for any tile , let alone WZ. $10 a sq. foot is a good/great price for Walker Zanger and 2x6.
