Best Organization System for a Playroom

I am starting in a fresh 19 x 12 room and I would love to see your use of efficient storage solutions for toys. I need to incorporate a dedicated art storage area and TV space. I do not plan on furniture in this space, just soft carpet maybe large floor pillows. Pictures would be lovely if you have them. Thank

A quick search for zipdee's DDs' room might show some great, kid friendly storage ideas.

Head straight over to Ikea's website -- and check out their wall systems and bookcases .....

Or Target has some great put-together systems too. Then add lots of plastic bins with large labels (and pictures!) of what can be found inside ....

Add bulletin boards around the room to easily change out artworks too.

We have two IKEA Hopen units in our playroom now. Each unit has four sliding wire drawers (that hold a TON of toys) with three shelves above to hold bigger toys and baskets of toys. I love this system because the wire baskets pull out so I can remove a single basket (say one full of wooden blocks) and place it on the floor for the kids. When they're done they load the blocks back in the basket and it gets tucked back into the unit and behind closed doors.

In our last home, we also used some wardrobe/pantry type units that we found at Lowe's. They were huge and afforded a lot of storage.

My preference is always for storage that is hidden because I don't like looking at the visual clutter. If that doesn't bother you the shoebox size toy bin shelves (available at Target) are good options too.

I've included one of the favorite systems I found when I was looking for playroom inspiration. The IKEA cabinets pictured though have since been discontinued. If you run your mouse over the second pic you can even see how the items are organized in each cabinet!

Wow! I love that all the kid stuff is hidden away! I might have to rethink my LR to make room for some cabinets/bookcases with doors on them to hide all the clutter. Thanks for the idea!

I LOOOOVE Land of Nod's playroom furniture. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it's quality stuff and beautiful too. We have the toy bins and 2 of the cube bookcases (with 8 cubes each in it). They have the canvas bins that fit in the bookcases that fit a ton of the kids junk.

You can also use the Expedit cube shelves from IKEA with baskets. Great price, great storage. Comes in a number of finishes and in two sizes.

Thanks for the great ideas. It's a shame about the Ikea Tunham system. That would have been perfect.

I can't remember the brand, but when I was in the market for some organizational furniture for kid's toys, I did a search under preschool furniture, found some great websites and ideas suitable for home use as well. For several years, our formal dining room was the play room; now I've finally reclaimed it.

Gardenergwen, I'm SO impressed! The cabinets are just beautiful and your organization skills are stellar. I went to Ikea's web site looking for the cabs, but they're not there. How long ago did you buy these? They look like the perfect storage solution for many different rooms.

We were in Target today and I saw some of their neat kids systems/organization and told DH I thought we needed to gift our #3 son and his wife with one for Christmas since they are now just rotating in and out of the garage, but this way they could teach him to put things away in his own little system. He will soon be 2-1/2 and has been accepted in a school that emphasizes individuality and organization.

I'm shopping for a playroom system right now too, and it's stressing me out! The only one I've found that I love is by Pottery Barn Kids, but it's about $1200 so that's not doable for us right now. I'm looking at the IKEA ones this week. Target also has some but I didn't like them for my space. I really need some tall wall shelves that I can put baskets in or put doors on... The Land of Nod stuff is cute too!

If you are going to spend the kind of money that you would at some of those high-end stores, why not just have a carpenter or a cabinet shop build what you want? Much cheaper, can have it done custom and better quality.
