Need opinions on an area rug AGAIN!!

Well, I'm back to needing help with my LR area rug. Some of you may remember my question about whether it should be 6x9 or 8x11, and I have settled that to be 8x10 or 8x11, BUT...now which rug??

I need a fresh pair of eyes (several fresh pairs would be great!!)

Here's a link to the former question:

http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/decor/msg1023243510139.html

I am thankful for advice from our rug guru "tryin2grow" for pointing out that the rug I thought I wanted really did not work for the space. Also I picked up a runner in that pattern and brought it home and it confirmed her opinion!!

So, here I am with a desperate plea for help with this!! The rug is SO important to the tone and blending of the contents of a LR!!

Here are pics of the LR with the white thing being a sheet for me to get a feel for size. Try to ignore it as it is too small anyway. If these pics don't work for you let me know and tonight I can try to get other shots of the room.

I've already switched the drapes to something more goldy to match this rug which I have in here in a 5x7--I went ahead and ordered it in 8x10, but can return it if it is just wrong! It's very blendy, but an awesome rich rust color and feels so soft.

{{!gwi}}

This one is another Company C that I think would be real nice, but am scared to order because I have such a small sample, and am not sure it is "right" It matches my pillows real well.

In any case, I know the furniture is bulky and dark and needs something to stand up to it. I'm not horribly traditional, but the first rug I posted, I do like. Just am not sure it is what this room needs. The second one is perfectly colored for the art above the FP and has brown in that is a good blend with the furn. I THOUGHT I wanted an overall patterned rug.....Oh dear.. I don't know WHAT I want any more....Please offer some sanity!!

Thanks for all your help!

I absolutely love the first rug you posted!! You will need a larger rug to go underneath the legs of your couch and chairs - if that one is large enough I think it would look lovely.

I like the first jaipur you posted and you seem to like it, as well. It has a very nice palette.

You have a mix of traditional (fireplace) and contemporary (furniture and art). It all works well, together. I prefer the more traditional rug, in this instance, because it balances out the different styles.

I'd never buy a rug because it matched a pillow, and the first rug looks nice with your art, too. The rug is the bigger investment and your pillows may change. You know you love the rug you have.

    Thanks nanny and parma!

Ummmm Parma? How did you know that was a Jaipur? Just curious....Cuz you ARE right;)

I do like the rug esp. when the sun is shining and the room is bright, but sometimes when it's darker, it's too blah(?)

"Ummmm Parma? How did you know that was a Jaipur? Just curious....Cuz you ARE right;)"

Well, it could be because I've seen a lot of jaipurs in my time (true). Then again, it could also be because if you hover over the rug's pic, it says Nourison Jaipur.

It's up to you to decide which scenario you like better. :)

    For my previous client ....

I was thinking this rug might be too dark. I do like it in the virtual, though. Hard to say how dark it will be, and in your space overall, irl. Certainly warm and cozy.

Forget if you're planning a coffee table. ?

This rug is more cheerful. Hard to say how bright it really is, as the ad photo looks like it's exaggerated. So, here are two versions, toned to your evening setting.

Parma! I KNEW there was something I was missing!! HA! Wow, learn something new every day!!

Squirrel! Thanks for coming back to my rescue...This has me in fits. And you hit the nail on the head--I too was wondering about the darkness of the Jaipur. Your PS of the "Iznik Tiles" by Company C is very good. I wish I could tell you which is more real, and I even have the sample right in front of me!!

Having asked DS right now, we agree that the first one is most realistic.

DH says get both:) But I'd hate to think of all that money rolled up for half the year.

I wondered is there some other design that I should be looking at.

    Thanks again.

Well, you are one lucky lady 'cause I was just contacted by Jane, our rug guru, who can't post right now, but she's made a couple of suggestions to try.

I really like the first rug (Jaipur?) I don't think it's too dark at all. My second choice is Jane's first rug (rust field and dark border).

I might like to see a rug with an all over pattern rather than one with a border. I think it would soften the look of the room whereas the bordered rug follows the sharp angle of the perpendicular sofa and love seat. I hope that makes sense -- at least it does to me.

Apparently the Nourison rugs are tufted and DO have the smelly rug problem (Jane is not sure if the rugs she sees are new or old rugs which are doing that).

Here's another. The Japuir you posted but in gold instead of brown:

I haven't noticed a smell, but the one I have was lying out at the store and the one I ordered (lrger) will be rolled, so maybe then I'll smell something?
Thanks, Squirrel for hanging my FP art up in the corner of the pic, so everyone can get a feel for the colors in it, as it is huge and has a big presence. The last jaipur you posted seems more sedate, but maybe it blends better?
I still have a soft spot for the Company C because it is so cheery.....
Of the 2 you posted earlier, I like the first one better. Can't tell if it has fringe or not tho. I don't want one with that.

I too wonder about a borderless,....open to all opinions.

Note: The end tables will go as soon as I find something that isn't oak--thinking round and black or wrought iron and glass. Not at all sure about that yet.
And the lamps I love, but if I end up going more traditional, they can move to the sunroom.

    thanks everyone.

I REALLY like the Jaipur (see parma's scenario #2 if you wonder how I knew-lol). I think it will look wonderful-very rich-and pull everything together for you. I like it best with your furniture and the colors seem perfect with the throw pillow, too.

My understanding, from learning here, is that the hand-tufted rugs have latex backing and glues that can deteriorate and smell over time. This can happen at around 5-6 years. So, when buying a rug constructed like that, I'd simply figure that in to your decision-making.

The hand-knotted wool rugs are best but, of course, more expensive.

Dyes and bleeding are another consideration, though I don't have a run-down or bottom-line on that for you.

My fav is the burnt orange rug Jane selected. I also like the cheerful one you selected, but the more muted version. Don't dislike the brown rug at all, it looks very nice in there, to me, but it is more somber.

Here's a link to the rug view of the last gold, Japuir rug.

Thanks for the education about rugs. I was wondering about the differences.
Any thoughts on the green and then accenting in the room with oranges and reds?
    {{!gwi}}

I like the first rug the best, but I'm wondering if a rug with a darker red would be better? Your room has that cozy feel already, and adding a rug with a deep red in it would be yummy. Of course I'm partial to red!

Also, if you're buying it online, remember that the color you see on your monitor may not match the rug. That's happened to me a couple of times, thankfully the rugs weren't too expensive, but when paid big bucks for our large rug, we did it in person so we knew exactly what we were getting.

Oakley, I believe the OP said she already had the smaller version of the rug (if I read her post correctly), so knows the color and feel of it.

Which begs the question... do you have it at home? If so, could you show us what it looks like with your furniture?

Oakleyok: I also was wondering about a red color, maybe that's what I'm liking in the Company C rug. This Jaipur does come in red too and I can look at it in person on Fri.

Parma: Yes, you do deserve a pic of the smaller version that I have in my LR. I promise to post one either later tonight or tomorrow when there's more natural light:)

Oh my goodness they are all beautiful. My favorite is the first one in this thread, which I think is the one you ordered.

the sheet really wouldn't work for me...

    lol!
either of the last 2 squirrel popped in look very nice - lighten up the space some.

What?! You mean most people don't use their old sheets as rugs---whoa, I need to spend more time here!! HA

Here are some shots of the room tonight...There's such a difference between flash vs. no flash, but you get the idea.

Boy, looking at the above pictures makes me realize that something needs to be done with the fireplace!! and soon!! I think that is what is throwing this all off, no?

Oh it's beautiful. Please keep this one.

Thanks sameboat, I'm happy you like it! I've just been giving more thought to the idea of having more red, and found this one
    {{!gwi}}
However, I would really like to see it in person and don't know where that would be......so maybe I need to stop looking :P

Any other opinions since seeing the actual rug in my LR? I will try to post some daytime pics later on today.
    Thanks!

    I absolutely love it!

    The colors are perfect.

Thaks Parma! I am looking forward to the larger size coming, as I think it will make a big difference in the overall picture.

It also helps that it is less than half the price of the 2nd rug I posted-the Company C one. :)
