Finally photo of dresser/vanity

Finally, my antique dresser that I'm converting to a vanity for the guest bath, was delivered today. Sorry, it's not in one piece. I didn't want delivery guy to put mirror on as I'd have to remove it when we move it into the house. I'll get DH to hold up mirror behind dresser this weekend and you'll get a better look. For now, here it is. I love it!!

I apologize, I didn't dust it off first. I'm like those cheesy people on Craig's list. HA!

I know it's East Lake Victorian is not everyone's style, but for those it is, you'll like this.

thanks for all the wonderful comments. Kelly, don't give up your search. Just as I was going to I found this. Do you have antique shops in your city? That's where I found this. It's a small town that has one block after the next with one shop after another. I had gone in 10 and then found this dresser. Keep searching.

Oh, that is going to be beautiful!

I've been wanting to do something like this but was afraid to tackle it. Would you mind posting a little how-to workshop?

Can't wait to see the pictures.

Very cool project! Will you be able to use the drawers? I think I saw Sarah Richardson(Design Inc) do this coversion and they modified the drawer depth to accomodate the plumbing. What kind of bowl and taps will you use?

It is beautiful. I love the wood and the style.
    Its getting closer isn't it?
Have you'll set a move in date?
    Are you that close?

That is lovely! It looks similar to mine that I bought already converted from cantonantiques.com. It's one of my favorite things in our new house.

Move in date is not until next year at this time. Could be sooner, but I'd rather not move during the hot summer months, just too stressful. It is getting closer, drywall starts going up next week. This Friday I believe tubs are going in. My DH is building the house that's why things take a bit longer to happen. He has to do it on weekends.

woodlander, as my husband devises his plan to convert the dresser I will definitely post a step by step to let you know how he did it. I can even take photo's. From what I've seen others do, you lose use of the top drawer, then you modify the second drawer buy making it 2 smaller drawers, to accomodate the plumbing. I know I make it sound so simple. LOL We're using a drop in sink with a nice rope design, nothing too fancy. The dresser is the star I think so I don't need a real fancy bowl.

Jackie, can you post a photo of yours for us to see? I'm going to go to Cantonantiques and take a peek at what is there.

I was visiting one web site, Canton may have been it, that coverted dressers then sold them for lots of money. I told my DH when he retires he needs to start making these to sell. There is obviously a market for them.

As far as faucets, we were waiting for the dresser to come, then pick out the bowl, then decide on the faucets. They'll be in an oil bronzed (hope I'm calling the finish the right thing), which is what the sconces are. I'll have to dig them out to post. I can't refer you to the link where the sconces were sold because they were discontinued just as I was buying mine. Semms everything I like is getting discontinued. What's that about? HA!

Thanks again for all your wonderful comments. I'm glad I did good in others eyes too.

jackie, I went to cantonantiques and saw the very first dresser on the site. It is very similar to mine. Is that yours? I see they were able to get some use out of the top drawers. Showed DH and he said no problem, he can do that. I think it's just convenient to have a top drawer to use on a bath vanity. Do post a photo of yours if you can.

brutuses, Mine is on page 18 of the sold vanities on the Canton website. Here are the before and after pics. I couldn't get a good one of mine installed that showed the whole thing, so I took these from the website. You are lucky that your DH is skilled in doing this type of thing. I'm sure it will turn out gorgeous! I'm thrilled with mine. Jim at Canton does absolutely beautiful work.

Wow, Jackie what a transformation. It is beautiful.

A friend of mine who has way too many antiques, (no kidding) offered me a dresser like just the bottom of yours. I had it in my head I wanted to find one with an attached mirror. I'm so glad I waited and found one with a mirror. It makes a world of difference.

I had my heart set on one with a mirror, also. They add so much. This one was actually my 3rd choice of what Canton had at the time. I kept choosing, and he'd say, "Sorry - that one's sold." It worked out for the best, because I can't imagine liking the others any better, or even as much, as the one I have! Good luck with yours and please post a pic when it's done.

Very nice vanities! They look a lot like mine. I refinish it myself and added the hardware I found at a discount store. We found the mirror - to match exactly - at a lighting store. Good luck with yours!

    Gorgeous vanities. Drool worthy.

newhomebuilder, that is beautiful and that mirror is an exact match. Very pretty.

newhomebuilder - Great job on the refinishing - your vanity looks wonderful.

Brutuses - your vanity will be just as gorgeous as the ones posted!!

    Love all of them.
    Smiles:)

newhomebuilder.. nice rug (have the same one) is is almost black but looks Bluish too?
    the rug.. love the vanity

Thank you for the vanity compliments. It is one of my favorite pieces and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

lorriekay - My rug is olive green and I love it! Also have a larger one in the kitchen and a huge rug in the family area (all three areas run together.) They are wool. Is yours part of the Legend Collection? If yours is the same, I'd like to know where you got yours? I have been looking for another.

I'm drooling. Those are gorgeous! I did that in my last house, but haven't done it here. I don't have the help I need. So I'll just enjoy your pictures.

    BEAUTIFUL!!!

You guys are an inspiration: such lovely, lovely pieces.

Here is another I finished for the other house. It was for another half bath, but we didn't bring this one with us. :(

I wish I had a photo of the bottom portion. The sink was a little short, so I added some 5" elongated acorn looking "feet" to the legs. I stained the feet to match the faucet and hardware and mirror. It was so cute!

Homebuilder, very cute. You're not afraid to tackle a painting/finishing project, are you? Me, I'm terrified of redoing furniture. Scared I'll screw it up. I'm glad mine came already finished.

Made another purchase today by phone from the same dealers I bought the dresser. When I was at the shop I noticed an antique wash stand, was looking at it, then was distracted and didn't go back to finish deciding.

Well, I talked to the owner by phone today and she said she still had it. I asked her to come down on the price and she did by $50. When I get it I'll post some photo's. I plan for it to go in the small hall we have that leads to the guest bath and seperates 2 bedrooms. It will look great with an antique replica of a pitcher and bowl a friend is giving me as a gift for my new house. Oh boy, I have the hall and guest bath furnished!!

    Sounds nice!

Brutuses you did great! The others posted here are lovely also. I bought mine off Craigslist and only wish I had done it sooner. Having something like this truly "makes" the bath.

I just happen to be watching the episode of Design Inc that I referred to last week. They were excited to find a chest to convert to a vanity for "only $2500.00" . They finished it with a full marble vanity top plus sink and taps. Must have cost at least $4000.00 in the end...yikes! Of course this was for a million $$$ plus home, but that would be my budget for an entire room ...or two!

Hope your vanity conversions did not cost you that much!

No way would I pay $2500 for a vanity of any kind. Mine will cost around $700 when all is said and done, maybe even a little less. That's why it took me so long to find something that would be suitable. I didn't want to take a priceless antique and cut a hole in it. LOL This dresser will serve my purpose quite well and not cost a fortune. The bonus is that it came with a mirror. I don't know if you've priced mirrors, but good ones cost a lot. So I was real happy to have this one included with the dresser.
