I finished something....buffet & barstools

I am one of those people halfway finished with a million things around the house. But last week my DH went out of town & I painted my buffet & barstools. I am ~actually~ pleased with how it turned out.

I am sorry, I forgot the pics of the barstools....

Oh, and I am not gloating or anything b/c this is what the DR looks like!!

Beautiful! I applaud your accomplishment, especially since my laundry room looks like your DR. OK...getting off here to get something done.

Great job! I love how your buffet looks now. Barstools too.

Kathryn, You did a fantastic job on your buffet and bar stools, if you hadn't told us you did them yourself, I would have thought they came like that. Very professional!! I, too always seem to have several projects half done, so I know how great it feels to have something completed and have it look so great!

BTW, I noticed that lovely decanter you have in the DR - I have one that looks just like it.

Wow! What a terrific transformation! You've breathed new life into those pretty pieces. And as for how your dining room looks? Go ahead and gloat! At least it's apparent you have work in progress, whereas I can't seem to get off my lazy butt and even start anything these days.

Nanny, I love that decanter! I searched for one similar to one I saw on the Birdcage with Robin Williams in it!! Jjam has one in her DR - I commented on hers on another post.

    Thanks, y'all.

Auntjen, I sat on my lazy butt all year(yeah, it got wider, too) until I found out about 30 people are coming for Christmas at my house. And I am hosting for my In laws for the 1st time EVER & yes, she is an absolutely wonderful cook & hostess & total southern class. Me, not so much.

No telling how long it will stay like that b/c I need my DH's help with the air tools. I am too scared to try that by myself for the 1st time - but once I learn - this house is gonna have some mouldings!! :)

Looks great! I know how good it feels to get something completely done. Now on to your next project.

WOW-what an update. Did you spray paint or brush paint--or what kind of paint? I have some bar stools with shiny gold metal that I'd like to try painting, a totally different style than yours though. Just need to take the plunge.

Regarding the DR, we've all got a room like that somewhere....I just don't have a cute little puppy as a distraction. He's adorable!

Looks awesome! Please do share the specifics.. I have an old "buffetish' piece.. but whenever i paint things black, I get weird streaks.. I have two tables and a small dresser to prove it.. red, pink and green are no problem for me.. must be doing something wring with the black.

    TIA

An absolutely professional looking job and the bar stools especially look SO much better this way. May I make a tiny suggestion? The pictures over the buffet are placed very closely together. I wonder if they would have greater impact if they were moved an inch or two further apart. The side board in the dining room is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know what your carpeting plans are for that area, but a beautiful Oriental rug would be a wonderful setting for such a lovely piece of furniture.

I love the buffet, the wall color, the gorgeous prints above the buffet, the dogs, but I NEED to see a close-up of that lamp on the buffet. My lamp lust has me pressed to the screen trying to see it better! Can you take a pic of it including the shade, pretty please?

Hi Johna, they look beautiful in black! I admire anybody with the guts to actually take paint to furniture. I'm curious too how you did it, like the basics...lol. You have some good motivation with the holidays coming and it's going to look beautiful. Your house is already gorgeous.

They look like you purchased them that way. Great job!

WOW - BEAUTIFUL!!! They look like brand new pieces of furniture. Great painting job! Congrats!

Your buffet and chairs look like you purchased them in black. I've painted my kitchen chairs and small dressers but I'm just to chicken to paint anything big. Was it difficult and what did you use? Did you have to lightly sand first? I'm sorry for asking so many questions but they look really good and I think I might give it a try.

Yay Johnatemp! I am inpressed with your motivation to get things done! You are really moving along! You must be taking the same vitamins as Reno! :)
    I'm enjoying watching you work!

I wish my dining room looked like that--instead of the explosion of mail going on in my room. Papers everywhere so I'll spare you a photo.

You did a fabulous job and rightfully should be proud and gloating. My question is how long will it take for dear hubby to notice?

Gloat away! you deserve it. You are really moving along on many projects. I would like to know the process and paint you used on your pieces they do look professionally painted.
Your pup in the doorway is just adorable! I love that "whatcha doin now mom" look dogs get!

Lookin' good. I like the black. It feels so good to finish a project, doesn't it?

    Thank you all.
Just a quick drop in so you didn't think I dropped off the face of the Gardenweb. Rollers are setting in my hair;)

I will tell what I did tomorrow with the buffet. I even took a pic of the wax I used.
But for the barstools I used the spray paint Teacats recommended from Wally World - American traditions - DH had some in his garage in black & just sanded back to reveal the green that was already on them. I sanded in places I thought would get the most wear - that way when they get more wear it will be natural. The sanding (just a sanding block I had on hand - medium grit) made it look kinda dusty looking so then I used the wax. I prefer the look of waxed furniture to polyurethaned(is that even a word!!??).

    More tomorrow.....
    Smiles:) & Happy Friday!

My3dogs, I'd glady takeany of your lamp rejects if that addiction gets out of control!! I took a pic but it is on the other camera that DH has. I am having probs getting my bad photos to load today.

The buffet had lacquer paint so I had to use oil based paint(yuck). I have gotten spoiled to latex But. Anyways, I always buy good brushes - Purdy. I used flat Lowes off the shelf oil based paint 2 coats w/ lots of dry time between.
Took a med. grit sanding block & sanded back revealing green base color on high spots & high wear areas. Paint what ever you want your reveal color to be 1st.
After sanding, it looked kinda chalky. So, I thought I could wax or polyurethane. I didn't have any oil based polyurethane but did have wax. Store is 25 minutes away.
This is the wax. It is a wonderful wax for furniture & lasts a very long time. Antique mahogany.

So I waxed on & waxed off.

    HTH.

    My3dogs,
Here is a closer pic of the lamp. I am having trouble with pics today. I rotated it on photobucket then it went back sideways.

Now, on Photobucket - I can't click on a certain pic to make it come up on it's own screen. When I move the mouse on a picture it shows all the different codes?? Does anybody know what's up? Am I doing something wrong?

    {{!gwi}}

Again, I am sorry for the sideways pic. Just turn your neck a bit until I get it figured out & call it neck exercises. ;)

I also have the funniest bottle of wine DH brought home last nite to share with y'all but it is a sideways pic, too.

    Smiles:)
