getting there slowly but surely--floors done

Well, one more thing accomplished. The floors are done. It was a task to match the exisisting 90yr old growth fir floors to the new fir floors in kitchen. We knew they would not match exactly but we are happy with the outcome.

Here they are:

The floors, and your home, are beautiful!

    Beautiful!!! Very exciting : )

They look wonderful. Your kitchen is looking great. Are the plywood pieces on the bottom cabinets just to protect the cabinets?

beautiful. can't see where old meets new!

if those aren't beautiful I don't know what is...glorious...would love to see the old/new next to each other...simply sublime . c

Thanks. The new meets the old in the first picture where the two darker boards border the newer lighter floor. Also in the last picture you can see the darker floor which is the older floor.

marti8a-- the plywood on countertops is the base for the quartz countertops which are being installed this coming FRIDAY!!! WOO HOO!!

Looks gorgeous! Really beautiful floor! Things are really moving along. Make sure you post pictures when your quartz counters go in!!

marti8a, I think the plywood sides on the cabinets are covered up by the range.

That's all looking wonderful, Annsch. The color of the floors is very similar to the honey tone we chose for our own. They're lovely in that sunshine.

Wow, very beautiful. I really can't tell the difference between the old and new floor. The color variations blend it very well. The house I lived in before this one had fir floors that had gotten very dark and rich looking. I loved it.

There is something about your kitchen - the shape of the space, the varying windows, and now your floors, cabs, and choice of colors - that is one of my favorites. I love watching it all come together. It's beautiful!

Thanks for all the nice comments. As the work drags on I've gotten very discouraged and anxious for it all to end. The 5 of us have been doing most of our living in 2 rooms: the dining room(our temp. kitchen) and living room (which now has the tv in it). The temp kitchen is getting pretty gross. I keep telling myself we are LUCKY to have a temporary kitchen for the remodel Anyway...I'll be glad when it's over. As you know...this has been a labor of love. :)

marti8a--i just figured out what you were asking about. What you are seeing on the bottom cabinets is not plywood, it's actually the unpainted maple cabinets, and yes, it will be covered by the range.

    michelle16--BM Nimbus, like the cloud

linelle--yes, the old floors were pretty dark before the sanding. I was surprised how light they were able to get them with the sanding. Both floors will darken over time again.
