Does anyone have any La-z-boy furniture?

Does anyone have any La-z-boy furniture such as the leather reclining sofa or chair? Are you happy with it? My daughters are telling me it isn't the "look" that is in and they like more of a "Pottery Barn" look. I have a some very nice furniture in the living/family room now but it isn't very comfortable. I got the sofa at Restoration Hardware a few years ago. We don't have a formal living room we have a living/family room in an open area off the kitchen/eating area where we watch TV/read. Upstairs there is a game room with pool table/sofa/chairs and TV but my husband and I hardly ever go up there, usually teenagers and young adult relatives use it. We both work stressful jobs with long hours and want to be comfortable and gosh we need to put our legs up as we are 60 yrs and I am tired of falling over ottomans. Will I be disappointed with the La-z-boy look? I thought about upgrading the leather. I wanted a chocolate/java brown. I was thinking of getting the sofa and recliner but would that be too much of that look? I have a large oriental rug on the floor, a grand piano in the alcove, a couple of other cloth chairs, end tables/coffee table and painted the walls the BM Dijon. Need advice...no curtains yet, lots of windows. My husband and I downsized from the big formal house a few years ago when the four children left for college and now we want a more livable, casual, comfortable home but still put together and somewhat upscale. I just can't get the look to come together. I had the Ethan Allen decorator out and when he was done describing his ideas it seemed more like my mother-in-law's taste than mine, much too formal.

The burgandy recliner in the picture is from Lazy Boy. DH loves it. While it wouldn't be "my" choice for a chair, he's a big guy and it makes him very happy. I will say though, if you go to the store you'll probably be surprised. They have many recliners that really don't look like recliners. I was impressed when I saw them and have considered replacing the other chair with one. They have a very good website that can give you ideas.

Mollie - I have a small, brown micro-fiberish sectional from La-z-boy with two reclining end chairs. While it's probably not as stylish as a Pottery Barn sectional, we LOVE the comfort and it's casual feel...great for a huge slobbery dog and an 8 year old growing boy.

Colorblind, love your media center...where did you get that? Very nice room.

Have you looked at anything by Hancock & Moore?

They make excellent recliners and sofas. Great product and very stylish.

Here is a link that might be useful: recliners

We had a leather, rocking, swivel recliner a few years back. I sold it, much to my husband's chagrin because I bought it for ME, and it hurt my neck to sit in it. Something about the cushions on the back - more comfy for taller people I think.

La-Z-Boy has some nice looking stuff, not all of it cushy, fluffy and overstuffed. ;)

I have two reclining wing chairs from there and they're comfy and don't look like recliners. They have oodles of fabric samples to choose from so you're not limited by the examples shown.

I have one of their reclining sofas, bought in 2006. The arms feel as though they have lost their cushioning. DH loves it, and like the reclining feature, but it's not comfortable for me to sit in.

Similar to what jojogirl11 experienced, it hurts my back and neck. I will be replacing it once we move next summer, but don't want to buy something that doesn't fit wherever we end up, or something the movers will break.

I recently purchased a Lazyboy recliner in a dark espresso brown leather. It hasn't been delivered yet, but it's very modern looking and somewhat petite in size. You really need to go in the store and try every chair out. From the website, I thought I liked "Milano" the best, but the back wasn't high enough to support my neck when reclined (and I'm only 5'4), so I ended up with "Syracuse". I should have it delivered in about 6-7 weeks, and I am really looking forward to having my feet up since at work I stand all day.

Mollie - Thanks for the nice comments. The media center is from Kathy Ireland. I got it on-line three years ago.

This is the La-Z-Boy "Van Buren" recliner we're getting for the TV room. I believe it also comes with curvy legs. DH insists his chair be leather, but I can pick the color.

This is the La-Z-Boy "Pinnacle" loveseat. I plan to get it in a fabric. Both sides recline. There is a lumbar support that moves with you as you recline. It's also a "wall-hugger."

And this is the matching La-Z-Boy "Pinnacle" recliner that I will get in the same fabric as the loveseat. It will be mine. The single recliner comes as a wall-hugger, or a glider/recliner, or a swivel recliner.

I still have to pick the fabrics. That's the hard part!

The Pinnacle line also has a sofa, but there's not room for on in my small TV room.

We're opting for maximum comfort in this room. There will also be an older rocker/glider with gliding ottoman that Harry and I share.

I have have numerous reclining pieces (sofas/chairs) over the last decade and I would never, ever buy them again. La-z-boy was the worst of all of them.

My beef with all reclining furniture is how the seating surfaces are constructed. Our preference is a firm/supportive surface. I've always found that the majority of the foam cushions are sub-standard and break down easily causing sagging. With 99.9% of reclining pieces, because of their design' there isn't a way to replace foam seating surfaces, back pillows and arm cushions (which we do every 2 years or so otherwise, I end up with back and neck pain).

I'm not sure about some high-end brands but I've only ever come across reclining pieces that have zippers on seating surfaces at Raymor & Flannigan, American Home stores and Ashley.

I have 2 leather expresso colored recliners. I didn't want the traditional recliner looks, so these are what we agreed on (dh had to have a recliner!). We've had them about 2 years now and are very happy with them.

I had two small Lazy Boy recliners. One started to tear on the seat and I gave it away. The person I gave it to is planning on recovering it because she likes the small size, it's hard to find a small recliner. I gave the other one to my daughter and it's starting to tear in the same place.

One thing I disliked about them is they swiveled and would never stay in place. They moved across the floor. After I bought them and noticed this I called the store to complain and was told that they tend to do this. I was upset it was not mentioned when I bought them. It was suggested that I put one of those rug grippy things under them but that didn't help.

Here are my STATIONARY Lazy Boy chairs. I know, weird to have stationary ones, but my kids are young and I had visions of fingers being caught in moving bits. And DD1 was far too enthusiatic with the rocker chairs in the showroom - moved them a good distance on carpet. I also discovered that recliners requiring force to recline (the user has to push on the arms) were too difficult for my sore back, levers worked better for me.....and yes, my carpet is too small.....

We just sold our 20 year old matching La-z-boy sofas on Craigs List since they no longer went with our new color scheme since the remodel. I still have a La-z-boy recliner which I will move downstairs. We never had a minutes trouble with either of them and feel we got good value for our money over 20 years use. I am just about ready to pull the trigger on ordering a La-z-boy custom fabric sectional (Devon model) along with 2 swivel chairs for our Great Room based on our past experience. I am a little concerned with reports of decline in quality, customer service and warranty coverage since I first purchased 20 years ago though. I am hoping that La-z-boy still produces a quality product and stands by their warranty.

guilty as charged: one recliner by lazy boy bought for husband, very dark rich chocolate leather, hint of burgundy to it. very comfy. I took weeks to find the chair that looked the least 'old lady' lol. it goes well even with my antiques. You always need a comfy chair/
