do you have an awesome handy man?

i sure do, and want to tell you how wonderful it is. he came over today and hung my new (to me--yay craigslist!) bdrm chandelier for me.

he works for food, lol, so went home happy with a quart of homemade bean and ham soup and a couple of frozen mini baguettes.

he also knows every pipe, electric thing, and whatever this house has in it since i bought and remodeled 21 years ago, i don't think i could live here without him!

so here's to you duncan, thanks for being such a great guy!

I was just going to reply that Hubby is my handyman, but you beat me to it. I'm glad to learn we're not married to the same guy. Congrats on your marriage and your renos.

    If only!!

but it's not my hubby, it's the neighbor!!
when hubby used to commute home from work only on the weekends--before he retired--he used to call the neighbor my weekday husband, and he was my weekend husband.
lol, apparently it takes two men to take care of me!

My husband can fix anything and he cooks and does laundry, too!! It is nice to have someone you can count on.

Hats off to all our wonderful husbands!

Well, sort of but I have to pay $25 an hour; and then I have to follow him around to make sure he does what I wanted. He's a busy contractor, and I'm lucky he takes time to do small jobs for me. I'm sure I drive him crazy sometimes. :)

I LOVE my handyman. He is also my gc who built my awesome new master bath. He can do anything and genuinely wants me to be happy with whatever he does, and he's a perfectionist - fussier than me. He charges ?? $40 an hour, I think. I'd pay anything - he's that good. All of us single/divorced/widowed/lesbian gals fight over him..."NO, you can't have him next week..I need him to fix/install..." He'll build anything, replaced all my aluminum windows with wood windows, is reshingling the outside of my house, but will also pressure wash my walkways, or clean my roof and gutters, climb under the house to set mousetraps, etc. I LOVE him!

But the great thing is he goes home to his family and I get to have a man-free house..LOL.

    I'll take two, Pharaoh!

I WISH I had a handyman. My DH is an UN-handyman. I've auditioned several, but none have worked out well. My Mom's DH is very good, but S-L-O-W; DH has a friend who is very good, but thinks he's worth $100/hr. DS is EXCELLENT, but can't lure him over for anything. Tried food, money, you name it but nope, it's on his terms, which never work with mine.

Very handy hubby. We have built 12 houses together. He builds them, I design them.

DH is very handy, but does things on his own timeline. So for little things like swapping out a light fixture, I just pull out the stepladder and do it myself.

DH is not handy at all. I am handier than him.

We have a great guy from our neighborhood association who is a contractor. He can do pretty much anything: painting (we'll hire him for exterior for sure, I tackle the indoors), tiling, kitchen renovations, and he's going top put in our french doors.

To the OP; give him a $twenty at x-mas, if he works for food now, he'll be overjoyed at the prospect of some "folding money".

He'd be embarrassed, but yes, I do!

I had a lot of repair work done on my old house this summer after the painter discovered some rot under clapboards. He called in two carpenter friends and the painting crew and the carpenters basically spent the summer here. I'd provide cold drinks and home made baked goodies, and one of the carpenters and I have become very good friends. We barter for services, and while we probably spend too much time just talking and enjoying each others company, he eventually gets the job done. He works for food, laundry services, and loving from my dogs. I get a smart, helpful, good looking young man to help me out at times!

YES! DH is the only handyman I will ever need. He doesn't really like to tackle large electrical or plumbing issues, but can do smaller installs etc. He can build anything too.

My hubby is my handyman, I dream it up, and he makes it happen.

I sure do! married to him 48 yrs. lol never call a repair man.. or painter or wall paper hanger etc. etc.

Gosh, I wish! I moved 2,000 miles, and one of the side effects is that you lose your network of awesome service providers. I've been here 10 years, and I've just found a good furnace company and a good window installer. But that's it! Very frustrating.

So all of you who have one, make sure to enjoy it!

i think a good handyman is worth his weight in gold. i live in the land of barter, and ours manages to make a nice living doing jobs around the neighborhood. we are not the only ones who keep him well fed, and we barter firewood, use of my tractor for plowing (he does mine first if i have to go anywhere), etc. this guy knows pretty much every nut and bolt in most homes around here, will come in the middle of the night, etc.
of course we also give him cash for the bigger jobs, but hanging my chandy yesterday took him an hour, and he really likes that bean soup!
makes me really think hard about whether i want to move and start over someday---i cannot imagine doing it all on my own again.
my husband is ill, so while he has the skills, he doesn't have the stamina to do very much.

yep,my hubby, hes a general contractor, jack of all trades now can you give me some ideas on how to get my things done around here. You know like the shoemakers kids didnt have shoes deal..

Another handy/contractor DH here. We barter all the time ;-)

    Its totally my husband.
He does it all and what he doesn't know how to do he educates himself, learns how to do it and does a wonderful job everytime! Very lucky gal right here!
