I have compared the two and I find that the Bon Ami is not as scratch free as the Bar Keepers friend. I like BarKeepers friend better. They are both the same price and I have noticed recently that it is harder to find BarKeepers friend at places like Target but Bon Ami is always there. I get the BarKeepers friend from Williams Sonoma.

I have Silgranite. BFK cleans it. Bon Ami does not. I wouldn't have believed it until I ran out of BKF and had a hard time finding more where I now live.

I have a hunch that either would work well on cast iron. Neither will scratch.

FWIW... I saw a big display of both the liquid and powder Barkeeper's Friend at Bed, Bath and Beyond yesterday. (21 oz can was $2.99)

Thanks :) I'll try to find the BKF. I've used both but haven't had any in awhile. IIRC BKF can safely be used on glass top stoves too??

Bon Ami uses calcium carbonate as the abrasive, and barkeepers friend uses oxalic acid as its cleaning agent and a non-soluble (unspecified) abrasive.

Bar Keepers friend is aimed as hard surfaces, Bon Ami at softer surfaces.

Keep BKF away from chlorine containing cleaners.
