Advantium installed! We disagree about if it looks right...

So the reordered face piece arrived with the doors this week. Now the Advantium is installed! But there was a glitch. And we are deciding if we want to re-re-order or not.

Honest opinions, how does it look? Having a hard time keeping things in perspective at this late hour.

I think you installed it upside down. ;)

What doesn't look right to you?

Latest technique to keep your souffle from falling?

Hmm, looks right side up on the iPad. I'm not sure why photos here play such games!

I hate to contaminate the pool by pointing out the specific concern right off the bat. I'd rather hear unbiased opinions initially, especially since we will eventually be selling (5-20 years from now, lol) and would like to see if it's truly a noticeable issue.

I'll share in a little bit, promise!

If you flip the photo over, it might be easier for us to notice any irregularity.

Are you referring to the cut-out gap in the molding above the oven? It's hard to see details in photos of dark cabinetry.

Badgergirl just posted photos of her kitchen in this thread and I think that's an Advantium. Hers butts up to the overhead cabinet, so it looks built in.

Here is a link that might be useful: example

I just downloaded the photo and when it opened in Preview, of course it was right-side-up. :) The only thing I can see is a shape above, as mentioned by may_flowers, and I don't know what that is supposed to be.

Here's a closer pic. They cut the opening too big and had to patch it above the oven.

I am sorry the pics are rotated, but they look right on my iPad. I have no idea how to fix that.

I think there was a thread earlier about where you need to have the home button on the iPad when taking photos. I think the problem is that the iPad works even when "upside down" and the photos look OK but are actually upside down.

Don't have an iPad so don't remember where the button needs to be for each type of photo (landscape or portrait).

Maybe an iPad owner out there can help

williamsem, I don't take pics with my iPad, but I wonder if it has to do with the rotation factor when viewing them. Maybe there is an original orientation and if you rotate your iPad, say 180 degrees, then that bit of info is encrypted in your photo? I take lots of photos with my iPhone, but typically I download to my laptop first before uploading to Flickr and then GW.

If the cutout is too big perhaps it would be better to have the fill in piece at the bottom of the Advantium. It would probably be less noticeable at the bottom. You would obviously need to have some wood installed under the Advantium to raise it up and then trim out the gap.
Here is a more close up picture of my Advantium install.

If I stand on my head;-) there looks to be a partial panel above the microwave that looks odd. That would be better as a solid piece, like below the microwave.

What purpose does the electrical outlet serve? It does not appear to be usable now that the oven is installed.

I didn't notice it until GinaGordon pointed it out. It might be better to pull out the outlet and just put a blank cover on that box.

That outlet was one of the many electrical issues we had, and the only compromise I'm not thrilled with. But it's about the best we could do with the limitations we had, we sorted through a ton of what ifs on this one. It is the start of that circuit and was previously located on the bathroom wall behind the oven. It needs to be there with the GFI. I have a plain outlet with no plugs, just the GFI part on it that is going there. GC didn't install it last time he was here, now he's going to have to work a lot harder to switch it out.

Couldn't the electrician just move the GFCI to the next outlet on that branch?

If you double click on the picture it rotates to the correct orientation.
Williamsen - your kitchen is sure coming along!
It that a filler above (or below if you are looking at the upside down picture) or does it pull out for a landing space?

I am having some trouble following the outlet - but how will you use the outlet in that location - looks like you are working on this issue.

So it is really hard to tell, with a shiny straight on picture that is upside down...
But, are you referring to the upper right area (lower left if it was right side up) having a funny reflection? Is there a slight depression in that area of the "metal"?

If so, you *could* re-re-order it. But, I think given how many people have commented thusfar and not seen it, it isn't an issue (and, I'm not even sure if it *is* an issue).

Maybe it is more obvious from a different angle. But, if straight on is your major issue and no body here sees it, you are probably fine.

On the side--5 yr timeline kitchen might make a difference for selling... But, sorry to say if you are thinking of selling in 15-20 yrs, you'll probably need another new kitchen by then to be "current" anyway.

I like the idea of raising it and moving the filler to the bottom. Pictures are oriented correctly on my screen.

The photos open up right-side-up for me if I save to my computer, like linelle posted.

Is that a door with an inset center panel cut down to be the trim/filler across at the top of the oven? It's not hideous or anything, but it does look a little off to me. Does that mean there is a gap across the center between the SS oven trim and the cabinetry?

You can use a GFCI breaker in the breaker box instead of having to have a GFCI outlet.

Here's the picture rotated since no one else did.

That's weird. If you click on the upside-down pictures they become right side up!

"If you click on the upside-down pictures they become right side up!"

Not for me. They are still upside down. Running the latest version of Firefox.

@aries61 - Thanks for posting the right side up photo.

It doesn't look terrible, but it isn't a plus. It would bother me more mentally/ emotionally than aesthetically because the person who made the mistake isn't the one who has to live with it. If it were DIY, would you leave it, or fix it?

I see now that what I thought was a gap is a lighter stain on the patched-in area. Maybe that difference doesn't show in real life.

Well, it's encouraging that it doesn't jump out to people.

If it was DIY, I would have cut it right. I read the install instructions weeks ago and knew there were instructions for WITH the metal accessory drawer and WITHOUT the drawer. And they are clear about which is which.

I'm not sure what we'll do. I'm not fond of the patch, but it apparently not too visible to others. I'm definitely feeling the reno fatigue and just want it done. If anything else has to be reordered, I would be inclined to reorder again.

I'm hoping this shows up oriented correctly. It's close from the side.

Picture looks right to me, but then again they all do. ;)

Am I correct that the horizontal strip stands proud? If so, that would bother me. With flat paneled drawers and inset doors, you're going for a very clean look which this interrupts.

Would taking out that cabinet for replacement give enough potential access to take care of your outlet issue?

I don't like it. It has no visible purpose. Could it possibly be turned into something decorative? I feel your fatigue though, Williamsem. Maybe when you aren't fatigued you'll wish you had reordered it?

Or, is there any way for them to cut the patch part out and lift up the oven into that patched area and give you, oh I don't know, a pull out shelf under the stove in the gap that lifting the stove would create? I'm sorry... it's a first world problem but it does get to you, no?

It gives the appearance that the oven has slipped down from its opening.

Why are there several inches of trim on the top and bottom of the oven? Badgergirl's cabinet has much less. Seems the trim eats into possible drawer space.

    Image rotated.

If it was my kitchen, that would bug me every time I look at the microwave.

Isn't it so interesting how we are all different? That would not bother me at all! That being said, I am still waiting for my Advantium Profile that is on b/o because of a profile "redesign"? When did you receive yours? And, yes, since I ordered the accessory drawer, I definitely gave my cab guys the instructions for install with an accessory drawer. I am sorry for you that they followed the wrong instructions.

That strip is a tad proud of the face frame, which shows several inches on top/bottom because it is much smaller than a full wall oven, but has to live in an opening sized for a wall oven. I did manage to get that extra drawer installed though. I think adding one more would put the oven higher than I would like.

As to potential remedies, I do appreciate every suggestion posted. I'm not certain about the feasibility of moving the trim to the bottom, or adding any additional items, etc as I was not here when this happened. I'm interested to hear what the cabinet guy that owns the company says when he comes for final inspection, not yet scheduled.

I purchased my oven during the Presidents Day sale, where I got a very good price. It's been here since March :-)

I'm very curious to see the redesign, I didn't know one was in the works. Please post pics when it finally arrives! There seems to always be several people here looking at Advantiums, I'm sure it would be very helpful.

Williamsen - how about making it functional and having it pull out - you could put items on it when you take them out of the oven...

I'm very sorry to say I think it is noticeable as well. : (

How about using a2gemini's idea, but put the strip at the bottom? You are going to see it above more than you will see it below.

Since the Advantium opens down, it would not help to make the pull out below.
    Bummer

I'm too short for a pull out above, and the door would cover a pull out below. I didn't think much about it this weekend, I wrestled a new set of shelves into a small closet. Maybe I'll have a flash of inspiration this week :-)
