Quick. Light bar & Location? Mirror? - Bathroom

I'm trying to pull my bathroom together. Buying the paint tomorrow and once that's done I'll show you that along with my new shower curtain together. :)

We're having an electrician come to the house Friday to look at and price some things so we're going to also get a price for him to move and install a new light on the wall while he's at it. I already had a light bar moved from the wall once and had this light installed. This will be my last chance for a long time to get it right!

I know probably most think the lights are dated. I've been told the mirror is too small. I do like them both but honestly think because of how the lights hang and the size of the space it almost make it appear cluttered. :(

#1. Looking to change the light to something similar to this. Not interesting in spending a bunch of money.

A. 20.75 long

B. Can only order this one online. Described as "nutmeg finish with tea stained glass" and is 28.97 wide.

I already have a light bar like this but I don't care for the chrome or really the white globes. Did consider spray painting the backplate ORB and using the white or replacing the globes. Thoughts on this or what light? I don't want something that's going to date fast either.

Length is 23ish" long.

The base would basically look like this spray painted.

#2. Assuming I should also change the mirror what size and shape? Vanity is 31" W. Had a wall plate one but builder accidently broke it & we left it go since I had the other one! (Stupid)

#3. BIGGIE. Where on the wall should the light bar be placed from the ceiling and mirror? Don't know if I can judge right without a mirror.

Bathroom shots. Vanity and top will stay for now. Cabinet is a medium oak color. You're not allowed to see the shower curtain yet. :)

Here's a better shot back that shows part of the cabinets. Will be adding knobs and those accessories will be leaving.

I almost think you need to go out and get the mirror first before you decide how high the light would go. Then if it were me, I would paint the fixture you already have, but your taps appear to be chrome so maybe you don't need to paint it.

24x30 wall mirror and new light bar? . . .

I think that's the size that was up originally (the one that someone broke)

I agree with Ctlane completely. Our builder had the electrician do our lights prior to the mirrors being in and now they're a good 18" above the mirror. Looks absolutely ridiculous! My DH is not thrilled that I've mentioned on more than one occassion that either the lights will need replacing (which will improve the look but still not make it perfect) or the boxes will have to be lowered. He knows it is on the to do list and creeping up really fast. IT drives me insane.

If I were to use the chrome light bar I have...

1st does it look dated? Should I use those white globes I already have too? Guess I could always change those.

I was debating about changing the white blind out for bamboo but maybe I could keep the blind I have (since it is private and I would also have to buy a liner for bamboo) and it could coordinate with the white globes?

I'm sorry there's so much in this thread and it's probably half confusing.

I found this mirror on-line and thought about using it, but it's too big for my bathroom. The price is pretty good (for mirrors, especially the size) and free shipping.

Lafonda - Oh wow, that's a pretty mirror. It was going to stay away from oval ones because I was afraid of getting the wrong size again but that sounds like it would work.

Talking through this in my head. . . .

I know what I was hoping you guys would say but I should probably keep the fixtures the same. Since I'm not changing anything with the vanity at this point I should probably stick with chrome. Will that look ok?

I'm not opposed to buying a different fixture than the chrome one I have if it'll make a difference. Like I said, whatever goes up there will stay as is for a long time. (With the exception of globe changing)

Part of the reason I'm panicked with getting this figured out is because some of the electrical stuff we need done outside before the ground freezes. When the guy is available is when this will happen.

Shee, for the look you're going for, and the styles we know you love, I think you'd soon tire of that plain beveled mirror without a frame. I like the oval shape, but that's all!! Maybe something like this bronzed oval mirror would work better, and still not break the bank. You could make a template of where it will hang now, and then you'll know where to have the electrician hang the light fixture. It should be hung just a few inches above the mirror.

As for the fixture itself, I updated one of ours by changing out the globes, and spray painting the brassy finish with hammered spray paint in a darker hue. No one but i know that it's not a new one!

To give yourself a whole fresh look, I would go with a rectangle. I would rather see a frame on it, maybe a silver or oak to match your vanity. I would also leave the new old light chrome. If you get new taps later you can always take it down and paint it then. Template with brown paper for now. 24 x 30 sounds about right. It looks like your countertop is white, so the white shades are fine if you like them. Also something you could change later if they bother you.
