Please help me choose a granite color? (pic inside)

My cherry cabinetry is in and now I'm just trying to decide on a granite color!

There is also a base cabinet in the middle serving as an island... it'll have an overhang on 2 sides for seating. I'm thinking maybe it a different color granite for the island? Or is the kitchen two small for 2 different colors?

The backsplash will probably be subway tiles of some sort.

Does anyone have a similar kitchen who can point me in a direction? White? Black? Brown?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Congratulations! Your cabinets look beautiful!! I would not go with the two different granites. Not because of the size of the space, which by the way is not small. Most of the kitchens that I've seen with two different countertops, also had a different cabinet color on the perimeter than the island. Since your island will match your perimeter, I think you should keep the countertops uniform as well. Of course that is just IMHO.

As far as color, I think you should go with a dark granite to give some contrast. Since your cabinets and floor are so close in color, a lighter granite would look too monochromatic. A dark, rich color on the counter would really make the cabinets pop. I would even avoid the browns and go with a black or dark green or dark blue granite for some interest. I think Volga Blue or Verde Peacock would look great. Soapstone would be gorgeous!

    Good Luck!

We have a green granite with natural cherry (Silver Sea Green):

The other choice that works surprisingly well is blue. Blue Pearl is dark and would look awesome with cherry. We thought about it, but wanted to stick with green.

Having agonized over the paint color: a neutral granite (black/grey/brown/white) allows you to play with a different paint or backsplash color a lot easier than a green or blue granite.

The "neutrals" that we considered were New Venetian Gold, Santa Cecilia and Kashmere White. We were trying to stay away from the darker granites, because we wanted to keep the whole kitchen lighter.

I think your kitchen could be big enough for two different granites, but it depends on the size of the island. You want the second granite to have some chance to shine!

My cabs and floor are similar in color to yours, and I have Ubatuba. Tropical Brown, or Galaxy Black would also look nice. Like the above poster said, you need some contrast. I would have the island granite the same color as the rest for the same reason above.

    Hi

The cabinets look great. I also have natural cherry cabinets (although darker floors) and went with Kashmir Gold.

patti823, your kitchen (esp. backsplash ) is gorgeous!
We also have cherry cabs with ubatuba counters. we could not decide on a backsplash, so went with full granite backsplash behind range/sink, and 4 inch backsplash for the rest as I was afraid it might look too dark. I like how it has turned out. We also have a bench (with two 18 inch wall cabs for support) in the dining area where we have used black galaxy. I love it!

Your kitchen is well on its way to lovely! I would suggest flipping through the finished kitchen blog (don't stop to overanalyze all the details)and just see what combinations catch your attention.....contrast, more monochromatic, uniform or no pattern, lots of swirlies, etc. I think your kitchen can handle 2 colors and it looks like you have enough natural light to go as dark as you want. For what it's worth, we chose Yellow River on the island and Aracruz Black for the perimeters. Our cabs (island, too) are also natural cherry. (Still no backsplash after almost a year, sigh.....)

Do we have the same stove? Bosch? Your kitchen is so pretty! I too have another vote for Yellow River. That is the granite I chose as well. White marks are where we templated for the backsplash.

I really love the contrast of the darker counters with the light cherry cabinets. The seafoam green was one I really liked as well as the Volga Blue and Blue Pearl. We have the dark cherry cabinets and a heavy red undertone so we opted for lighter granite (not a ton of natural light in the kitchen) but if I had light cherry we would have gone for some of those darker granite colors you don't see everyday. The only thing I would say is to look at the finished kitchen blogs to see what backsplashes people have done with the darker granite and if it appeals to you. I always picture the subway tiles as being with lighter granite or off-white cabinet kitchen. Not sure if you would fall in love with a granite then have problems finding a backsplash.
