Best way to hang art plates?

I have 6 6" art pottery plates I want to hang, just in a straight horizontal line...I've never hung plates before -- what are the best, as in safest and least possibility for damage, hangers to use? TIA.

I had a beautiful plate hung in my bathroom, using one of those wire plate hangers, & it ended up rusting through & fell one day, cracking the plate.

Of course, that bath didn't have proper ventilation, but still, I won't be doing that again!

So if there is a safe (and INVISIBLE) method that someone recommends, I'd be happy to hear about it as well.

UGH that makes me hurt just reading it...see, that's what I'm afraid of...OTOH, I saw one today called "invisible" online and it was *glued* to the back of the plate, which I really don't want to do with these, as the back is unglazed and the glue might soak in/discolor it, etc.

I also just read that the glue-on ones are *unreliable* -- saw someone's blog who documented how s/he (don't know) took great care to hang some decorative plates with them and then within hours started hearing the tell-tale CRASH as the glue separated from the dishes. Other people corroborated the story.

    So those are out.

    What's a modern plate-displaying girl to do?!

If you make sure to get solid brass hangers, they won't rust. I have some that are 20+ years old and still going strong. Be sure that what you get has a plastic protector on the hook so that it won't damage the plate rims. There are all shapes and sizes of real brass hangers out there, you just need to hit the antique/boutique stores instead of the craft stores. HTH

jaybird, this does help a lot. I'd read that the metal ones damaged the plates -- but I'd seen the plastic protectors that would seem to shield the china from direct metal contact, yes? Were people hanging the plates on naked metal with no protection? Well of course that would cause problems! O.K., I'll check those places out--much appreciated!

I can vouch for the brass holders with plastic protectors. Fly, do we get pics of these too? (and missy, you owe me an email amidst all your Goodwill shopping!)

UGH I completely forgot, walkin...I'm so sorry...will get on it posthaste. I keep hoping that maybe you'll do a family visit up here and can spare a little time for your g'web friend :)

Good to hear that the plastic-covered brass protectors are the ones to use. I really should photograph them, they're so inordinately cool -- not sure whether they'll come across as fabulous as they are in a photo, though...(the painting didn't either, nothing ever does, so I probably shouldn't worry, but this is such a respected audience)
