BM Revere Pewter or Gray Owl in north facing/low light room

I just put a two coats of primer and BM's Revere Pewter in a bedroom, and next to the medium-toned gray on the walls, it looks straight up beige. I've seen photos of it in others' homes, and I never thought it looked this beige-y.

I know grays can vary depending on the light (or lack thereof), but I was expecting more gray and less beige. Can anyone recommend a shade in the same or lighter tone but with less beige? I'm considering Gray Owl - does anyone have any experience with that color and know how it compares to RP?

Here's a photo of RP:

It sure looks beige to me. I just got back from the paint store - I'm also looking for a soft gray. They were out of the BM sample for Stonington Gray. Someone here had recommended the Affinity color "Wish" but looking at the large sample of that it looked taupe. I'll be interested to hear what you find out.

I just did Revere Pewter in several areas, including an upstairs hallway and stairwell with no natural light. There's a thread here somewhere and it is definitely gray in those rooms. I tried some around the french door in the family room and looks gray there too, but at night it actually looks kinda lavender???

I tried gray owl in my sons room. It is much lighter than RP. I ended up mixing Gray Owl and Sea Haze (next color on card) for his room.

I'll try to post some pics later..

It does look beige to me as well, but as jillinnj said, the existing paint next to it could be making it appear much more beige than it will be once painted out.

Stonington Gray is a nice one and won't look as beige as RP. (Could lean to blue undertone) Wickham Gray is nice as well.

If you've got the paint anyways, maybe roll-out the entire wall and see if will appear as more gray...

    Good luck!

I have revere pewter in my kitchen & foyer and it's definitely a pale gray. As jillinnj mentioned, holding it up to white will give you a more true sense of the actual color. It's what I would call a "warm" gray, but I've never thought of it as beige. The same thing happened when I painted my laundry room Manchester Tan (it actually looked gray while I was painting it, but it's obviously a beige/light tan.

This is very interesting. I have Revere Pewter in my pantry. It looks just like yours does. I love it.

But I have been surprised by how different it looks in other folks postings.
    Almost lavender grey to me.

i have revere pewter in my kitchen & family room. in sun light, it looks beigey. in low light it looks like a warm grey. i love the color.

That has got to be mixed wrong! I would take it back. Does it match the paint deck sample?

not unless they also mixed mine wrong, and the same wrong ...

    my photos match the OP

After looking at my paint deck I think the color is probably right. Maybe it just looks more beige because it's next to that darker gray with blue undertones. It's really a beautiful color. I'll bet it will look great when it's all painted.

I agree with carminnc. I think what is throwing everything off is the contrast with the existing purply gray. I love how RP looks in some houses, where it actually comes off warm and neutral and has a hint of brown. In my house, it went purple and I see that in some other applications, also.

thanks for the input - it's fascinating how RP can take on different shades in different spaces. And I agree - that purply gray is really throwing me off. I painted a few other swatches on the wall away from the darker color but everything is reading really beige.

I just picked up a sample of Gray Owl which I'm going to try tonight. Like homeagain said, it's much lighter than RP. I'm trying to pick up a light gray in a fabric for the bedding. RP is unfortunately not a match for the bedding. It's a beautiful color though and I'd love to use it in another room. The search continues...!

We have Gray Owl in most of our house, and it's definitely gray although it takes on a greenish hue at times that I'm not crazy about. Overall, I like it. Now, we just started painting our mudroom Revere Pewter and it is beige- like not gray at all! There is no natural light in that room. I don't know if I am ok with it- very "builder beige".

I can't help you with the color per se, but when I went to the Sherwin Williams store today to find a color for my DR (same problem, dark, north room) I told her I was painting samples on posterboard. She said that's great, but that the color, when it's painted in the entire room, will bounce off the walls and usually create a slightly different hue depending on light in the room. Makes sense. Maybe that's why when you're painting it next to your original wall it's picking up the color from there. All I can say is this picking out the right paint shade stuff is not for the weak!!!

Gray Owl took on a greenish tone in my home. I just picked up SW Repose gray. I'm hoping to get some up on the walls tomorrow so I'll let you know about it. Hope Gray Owl works for you though!

Our bathroom (no natural light) is Revere Pewter and it's a nice warm silvery grey. It is not beige, I think the charcoal you have it up against is very blue-toned which makes the RP appear different. Of course paint colors look different in every light though. Maybe you could cut out a white paper wide frame for the RP tape it in place to remove the bias from how you are seeing it?

I know this is a very old thread, but i hope Pipdog sees it. She has since moved on to an MCM and was sharing some of her renovations with us.

I haven't seen her here though, since the switch over to Houzz. I hope she checks it and updates us on her wonderful home.

Oops did someone raise a zombie thread? I didn't notice the date!

Yep, old thread- but I am currently suffering the consequences of that elusive Revere Pewter. It is so beige, it looks almost buttery yellow at times in our room with no natural light. We are painting over it. Going with Healing Aloe as I don't have the patience to tinker with "greige" anymore!

It's pertinent for me too. I'm trying to decide if Revere Pewter is going to be too gray for my north facing den. I'm hoping it ends up being a soft warm gray on my walls. I did a large test panel but I don't think I'll know for sure until the room is completed. Right now I have a very warm khaki on the walls that I can't wait to change. I also tried BM Pashima but it looks like putty in this room.

From my experience (which doesn't seem to be the case with most), I doubt it will be enough of a departure from the warm khaki you say you are trying to venture out from...but it is definitely a warm, rather than cool toned color in my experience.

Revere pewter is a strange beast. I have loved it in every picture I have seen but when I tried it on my walls, it looked like gray mud

This is how a small sample looks. Pretty different I probably misspoke when I said khaki.

How did the RP turn out? I am thinking about it for my living/dining room and I'm afraid it's too beige

charisma81, how do you like the BM Healing Aloe on your walls? We recently painted our living room in that color and I really like it. We get a lot of natural light in the room so most people think it reads blue, but to my eye it looks like a grayish-bluish-green.

Although timely, this thread this thread very old.

Pipdog has since moved to an MCM and shared some of the decorating she was doing during her reno. SHE HASN'T BEEN AROUND IN A WHILE.

Shout out to Pip, if she sees this, update us, please!

I have gray owl in an office and it's a beautiful gray color with a hint slight hint of blue

can anyone give me a beautiful warm tan color for a small living room with one small burgundy wall. Not a lot of light in room so don't want a dark tan. Thanks.

Kathy - this is an old thread but you might get more responses if you ask your question in a new post.

Boy, I can relate to all of these posts. I have RP in my open floor plan. On the walls that have natural light, it looks OK (not my favorite) but the adjoining family room with the screened porch next to it blocking the light, the walls look like green/yellow mud and I am stressing as to what to do. My trim & cabinets are off-white so i have to stay with the warm greys. I've even tried Sea Salt which looks dull. I'm going for an LRV of 65+ so I'm trying the sample board with the Repose Gray at 75% with the idea of the adjoining kitchen/nook at 100%. We will see. Next I'll try the Gray Owl - OC 52 i think. Beware.......there are two Gray Owls! The Oc 52 is the lighter version. To complicate matters, I have a beautiful silver gray sectional sofa that I'm working with. I appreciate all of the posts here.

Sorry, I hadn't seen this thread earlier. I did move out of my house that I used Revere Pewter in several years ago, but we used it in the living room/dining room. The bedroom was too dark and it looked muddy in there, so we used another lighter gray in there (BM Nimbus, i think?)

Here's RP in our (old) living room:

Wow gorgeous home!! To the person who asked about my healing aloe- I wasn't the one who used it. :) Good luck everyone!
Ha! Now looking back I had said I was going to go with Healing Aloe! Well, life got the best of us and the Revere Pewter stayed. I don't care for it but it's a mudroom. :)

We have Gray Owl throughout the main living space of our house. I love it but it is definitely not a warm gray, if that's the what you're looking for. It is more of a pale silvery blue green, depending on the light in the room.

I used 50% revere pewter in my home it does not even look like "revere pewter"

I used the own gray in my bathroom, love it so warm.
