granite tile and slate tile backsplash question

I have purchased 12in granite tiles and 12in slate tiles that I want to put hang on a 45 for my backsplash. The combination is so beautiful with the two finishes and different colors in the slate.

The tiles are not the same thickness. My hubby seems to thinks we can make it work by adjusting the thickness of the adhesive on the wall.

Any opinions or suggestions?

My husband said the same thing regarding some ceramic tiles that were different thicknesses that we were considering for our backsplash. I don't know if he is right though I am sure a more experienced tiler her on GW will havea better answer.

Today I got a sample of 12x12 St.Cecilia granite and now I want to do that for my backsplash but I was not sure how so your question gave me an answer : )

I would think you will have to spread thinset on the wall and then backbutter (spread thinset on the backs of) the thinner tiles.

Thank you for the follow ups and answers.

My counter top is a mixture of black and gray. The slate tiles have alot of gray, but each one is so different, the combination is amazing. We will do one whole tile of the black granite and the next two halves will be the slate. It looks great when I lay it out on the floor. : ) We will see how it comes together on the wall.
