Help with plantation shutters
Comments (11)I have a family room with a couple of large windows along one wall, and then a 6ft french door on the other. I have wood blinds and side panels on the windows. For years I had nothing on the French door because I didn't want anything interfering with the view from that area, or flapping against the glass with a door that is used a lot! Privacy wasn't an issue since nothing is behind us for quite a ways, but finally, just to feel a little more secure at night (since I watch tv in there) I had cellular shades put on the french doors. Takes up next to no space when up, but if I want more privacy they are there to be lowered. Not an exact match I know, but works for me....See MorePlantation shutters for tall windows
Comments (8)With the chair rail and the recesses above, I'm not sure shutters are the best option. I don't know how deep those cutouts in the ceiling are, but they might be handy for installing a tension rod with drapes. They could easily be adjusted to fall in front of the chair rail and to the floor. Behind them try inside mounted top down/bottom up shades or blinds that you can adjust for privacy at the bottom while having the light and sky at the top....See MoreHelp for Family Room Windows- Roman Shades or Plantation Shutters?
Comments (16)Why not consider hanging your television on the wall opposite the chairs and in turn, open up the window area so you will be able to appreciate the new treatments. You'll probably find that tv viewing will be more comfortable if you do not have to crane your neck to see it in the corner. I would vote for a fabric treatment like a very simple drapery to the floor. Shutters may seem a little cold in my opinion. We offer lots of informational articles on our BLOG page. Comments (7)I think they can add value to a house, but not everyone is a fan. They were a big plus for us as buyers of this house. I wasn't sure so I just checked...our louvers are all 3 1/2". Like you, many of our neighbors have them, too. I hope a designer/pro can help you with the curtain/panel question. To me, the shutters give a light/airy look, so a light fabric seems more appropriate. One thing you might like to know...some years ago my mom had plantation shutters installed over sliding doors that went out to a balcony. They replaced floor-to-ceiling drapes. My first thought was the shutters would close in the room; however, they did exactly the opposite. The room just opened up and looked larger....See Morepupwhipped
