Can I see pictures of your tiled kitchen floor?

If you have tile on your kitchen floor, would you show me pictures? I have decided to put tile in my kitchen because it is durable. But I need some inspiration as far as what kind of tile is popular these days. Thanks!

Here's mine, multicolored slate just installed a week and a half ago. This is before grout (the one with the kitty is after grout) and before we enhanced it, which darkened the stone and really brought out the colors even more. I LOVE it!

What is it with tile and kitties? Or is it cameras and kitties? Little hams, aren't they? My cat loves my slate, he licks it! Must be the minerals and he and the dog both like to sleep on the cool surface.

Mine's travertine. It's not as durable as ceramic or porcelain tile, but has a wonderful soft, silky feel if you like to go barefoot.

Here's mine, complete with grout haze:

Another shot - you can only see a bit of it, but it's mostly haze free:

We got Marazzi Montagna Cortina 16" porcelain tile because of the durability and it has the look of travertine. We got it at HD.

Ours is also Home Depot - Ceracasa Mottego Beige, it's called.

Sorry, I've tried and can't get the image to pop up, so here's a link to the right photo. Then scroll over to page 6 for a view of the tile against our wainscot (installed yesterday).

Here's mine. I got the 12 x 24 and really like the size.

Ours are porcelain 18x18. My kitty didn't make it in to the photo---she's a little old and crusty and not a bit pleased about this remodel!

Chief - love that floor, it's just gorgeous.

Kichenkel - what a cute seating area. Love the pillows for adding coziness.

KitchenKElly, is that man made tile or slate?

Thanks debi, even after two years I still give those floors an admiring look on a regular basis.

Here is what it looks like with the transition into the new hardwood floors in the LR &DR. And here is a picture of my dog. The cats still out number us.

If you want to see more of how it looks with the kitchen cabinets, go to Aptosca on the Kitchen Blog.

diem, it is fake slate. It is called "Mirage Slate" from Italy. I love the real slate but wasn't sure it would look right in my kitchen. The colors in the one I picked worked well for my situation. Here is a link. It was about $7 a square foot.

First of all, I must say that I love seeing everyone's pets in these pictures. I love animals. Also, I want to thank everyone for the great inspiration. I didn't see one picture that I didn't like. I recently had 18 x 18 tile installed in my master bath and will probably carry the same tile over in to the kitchen. But before I had it put in the kitchen, I wanted to make sure I was on the right track with my selection. The tile I have seems similar to Karina's. Aptosca, thanks for showing me the transition. I will have a similar transition when everything is done so it is good to get an idea of how it will look.

What size grout lines did you all use. I have 3/16 done in my bathroom but because the tile is beviled it looks 1/4. I am thinking I might want it to be smaller in the kitchen.

I attended the Kaleidoscope of Homes near Ft. Worth last week and here's what they had in two of the houses.

msrose-- That is what I want in my kitchen. I took a pic. of almost the same thing at a Parade of Homes in Brentwood, TN last year. Now that we are ready to choose tile, we (including our GC and tile salesperson) aren't sure what it is. (We can't find it to duplicate it.) Do you or does anyone else out there know?

chiefneil-- I also love your floor. Do you mind telling me specifics of color, size, company, etc. of your travertine?

    Thanks so much.

jlmjawj - sorry, I don't know what it is, but if you find out let me know. I'd love to use it in my kitchen also.

    Aptosca,

How did you get that smooth transition from the tile to the hardwood floor? Very nice!

Kitchenkelly: I love your floors and the fact that they are so reasonable in price! How did you or GC order them from Italy? Was it particularly tedious? Or, is there a dealership in the US? What color did you choose? Your color didn't show in the samples. What is the upkeep on them - easy to clean, etc? Would you think you could put radiant heat underneath? Thanks!

Hi kulagal, I found them at a local tile shop in MN so no problem for the order. It was only a two week wait for the order because they were in stock in the US. I have the Military Green which is funny because I think the primary colors are grey and brown but you do see a green undertone. It is a porcelain tile so very, very easy cleaning and I do have heated floors.

Thanks for the compliment. I definitely think that they look different in person than in a pic and the color varies in different lighting. Hopefully if you are still interested, you can see them in person before ordering.

ChiefNeil - Can you give me the details of your backsplash? Do you have your kitchen posted in the finishedKitchens site? I love the piece of backsplash right above your stove.

calisamcn - They are floor/wall tile that has a beveled edge. They are used as trim, like base board, with tile floors. We thought they would make a good transition strip between all the different floors. The kitchen meets 3 different floors in several rooms. We did a border all the floor. I went to a local tile shop with the big tile and they found these that match. The small amount of trim tile cost as much as the whole floor.

I'm wondering if it might be mixed colors of Peacock Pavers?

maddie, the white stone is a 6" tumbled marble. Over the rangetop are copper-coated tiles with solid pewter insets. The insets are from azhotdots; I forget who makes the copper tiles unfortunately.

    Here's a closer look.

msrose & jlmjawj- The first picture of your Parade of Homes is a Noce Travertine-looks like the color is the "Walnut". It is laid in a "versaille" pattern. We are actually in the middle of our kitchen remodel and that is exactly what we are using as our floor tile. It has been a popular pattern here in California. The overall look is an Old World, Tuscany style. Hope that helps!

mamabi - Please post picture when yours is in. What color cabinets and countertops are you putting with it?

    Laurie

    Here are a few:

I've got alot more downloaded onto my computer, but not many uploaded into Photobucket, because for the msot part, the kitchens I do, the tile is pretty much just floor covering. Where I normally get decorative is on the backsplashes.

ChiefNeil, thank you! I was looking for a while for examples of kitchen islands that are not made of wood. Yours looks awesome.

pretty floors! of course these threads just always bring up things i haven't thought of. i have a galley and had assumed i would just do a straight grid pattern. but i see uxorial and both did brick/"staggered". is this more common/better? my width cabinet-to-cabinet is about 50" and i'd use 12" or 13" tiles.

adding to my previous post/question, the foor right outside th kitchen is parquet (grid pattern). i think that is why i assumed grid into the kitchen for consistency - even though they are diff. materials and slight diff. sizes.

My herringboned quarry tile floor is in the finished kitchens blog, but I don't know how to get the picture from there to here...........
