I don't know what you should choose--I would choose the matching cherry because I'm a matching fiend.

Though, my personal opinion is that the mix & match is trendy and will make the kitchen look dated.

I personally do not like the mix and match. I vote for white. If you choose wood, I would then match it to the dining room.

The only thing that I would not do is the color halfway between the floor and furniture.

I can see getting a stain to coordinate (not match), white for all, white for uppers, or even do the fridge section to match the furniture and the rest in white.

If you did do any white cabs, I'd consider going a little darker on the floor. I am guessing that the floors will be redone when you add in new pieces to blend the 2 rooms.

Hmm - I wasn't planning on changing the floor color because that would require changing the entire first floor. I was hoping to just match what's there.

I like the look of mixed base and uppers, but do agree it's trendy and so I probably wasn't going to go there.

I think mostly I need to decide if I go with the cherry, if it's just *too much*.

I had a similar situation. My DR and LR are open to the kitchen. My DR and LR furniture is cherry. I really wanted white/cream kitchen cabinets. DH wanted cherry. Although I LOVE cherry, I felt it would be too dark for the kitchen and too matchy/matchy with the DR and LR.

I am very happy that I went with the white/cream cabinets. I got kitchen stools to match my cherry furniture and I think it really tied it all together.

I think I'm going to bring home door samples and hold them up in the space to see what resonates. I have the same concerns about the cherry - too dark and too matchy/matchy. I know that I would never insist that someone matches their dining room furniture to the kitchen cabinets perfectly, so I'm not sure why I feel like doing that in reverse.

I also had the same issues when I opened the wall between my dining room and kitchen and put in creamy white cabinets.

I would tie in the cherry wood, with a few accent cabinets, but use mainly white. Are you going to have stainless steel appliances? They're very nice, but if you're using white appliances, I'd think about bringing in some brass to coordinate with your chandelier. If you don't want shiny brass hardware, a more antqiue brass would look good too, especially with the cherry.

I"m definitely not keeping the brass chandelier - it came with the house. We're leaning towards stainless, but haven't decided yet.

Seems like you have narrowed it down to wood vs. white cabinets. If you choose wood, how about natural cherry cabinets which will be light at first, but may darken naturally over time.

Natural cherry cabs and soapstone counters are classic but also here's a picture of a very pretty kitchen with natural cherry cabs and light counters.

I would also be careful to tie in the cabinet style if the china cabinet is going to be in the same room. Beautiful DR set BTW!

Another vote for white/cream painted cabinets. All cherry in a very large space would be a LOT of wood. I actually like the idea of the mix though, because you've already "mixed' in the DR. Like making the island cherry? Or the lowers?
