Dawn dish soap is in my built-in soap dispenser; wash yard grubby hands with it too.

Been planning to get NeverMT and look forward to hearing opinions and issues.

Mine has Seventh Generation dishsoap, but for dishes I prefer to use the bottle. I use the dispenser for my hands :) If your dishsoap is gentle you can easily use it for both. Then, no matter what the expectations of visitors to your sink, there will be no surprises (visions of washing a glass and having it smell like flowers, or washing hands and having degreasing agents dry them too much).

Hand soap! Definitely if you have a dishwasher. My mom keeps dish soap in hers and it drives me nuts, I wash my hands several times during cooking and instinctively go for the dispenser, wasting the soap and ending up with slimy hands!

Up until last night, I'd been planning to put the dish detergent in the dispenser. But last night as I was cleaning up the dinner dishes, I realized that I often pick up the detergent bottle to put a "dab" of detergent in a pan that's on the counter or in the sink and then add the hot water. I also sometimes put it in specific spots in a dish (where there's more oil or grease than other spots). Both of these actions are much easier to do by picking up the bottle. I could still put detergent in pans/dishes w/the dispenser, but I'd have to hold the pan/dish under the dispenser. And, b/c of the very limited reach of the soap dispensers I've seen, I'd only be able to put the detergent on the side of the pan, not the middle or wherever I want.

So, as of last night, I'm planning on putting hand soap in the dispenser and dish detergent in a bottle on the counter. If I find I don't like the way it looks or the clutter, then I guess I'll either put it under the counter (on the door) or in a "decorative" portable dispenser.

As to NeverMT, I seem to recall that some people have had problems with Dial hand soap...it's too thick, I think. If you use Dial, perhaps you could thin it slightly with water. I also seem to recall that someone made their own version of the NeverMT with plastic tubing; I think they drilled a hole in the refill container's top and stuck the tubing through the hole (and then connected it to the soap dispenser). We're probably going to make our own "NeverMT"...although it's very inexpensive...$8, I think, w/a "buy 3, get 1 free" deal (if it's still going on).

Dish soap in built-in dispenser. Foaming hand soap on the counter. With small chidren, I am often picking up the portable soap dispenser and moving it to their hands, rather than trying to lift the child up even further so she can reach.

I use handsoap in the dispensers at our 2 sinks. I usually "do" dishes once a day and wash my hands many more times than that. Also, when I'm washing dishes, I'm "at" the sink so grabbing the bottle from the cabinet isn't a big deal but when I'm washing my hands I'm usually in a hurry. And it encourages other members of the family to wash their hands more often (they probably have no idea where the dish soap is.)

zelmar: you're right: I'm constantly washing my hands, but usually "do" dishes once a day.

I have non ultra dishsoap in my dispenser. I use it for both dishes and washing hands. It works great for handwashing and I have never noticed anyone having a problem with it.

I have dish soap in the dispenser with the NeverMT. I love it! I usually wash my hands at the prep sink, which doesn't have a dispenser. I just keep a bottle of hand soap--usually from Trader Joe's, which is nice looking and very convenient.

Hmm, I was planning to have a dispenser with dish soap at the clean-up sink and a dispenser with hand soap at the prep sink (which will also be the more accessible sink to the dining area).

Will this be too confusing for people?

I'm figuring that my family will learn the difference quickly and I can tell guests. I figure that it won't kill anyone to accidentally use dish soap for their hands, and nobody will be washing dishes in the small prep sink.

Handsoap - never even occurred to me to put dishsoap in there. I never kept dishsoap on my counter but always had a handsoap dispenser - that was typically ugly and/or grimey, tipping over, etc.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to have dishsoap and use it for hands and dishes but I like handsoap better - maybe it's psychological.

I've done what Holligator suggests: dish soap in the dispenser at main clean up sink, and hand soap at the prep sink (Never MT for both!). Works great for us. The whole family washes their hands frequently at the prep sink - but I think that has more to do with the Tapmaster that we installed there - it's fun, and great for when your hands are gunky! All of it is confusing to guests, but the family caught on quick. My prep sink is in a very convenient spot where people can use it while passing through the kitchen, without being in the way of the cook. I use it more than the main sink because of the tapmaster, so hand soap there just made more sense.

While installing my new kitchen faucet and soap dispenser, the plumber said to put only hand soap in the dispenser. He said dish soap eventually clogs the dispenser -- that they are made for hand soap.
I cannot vouch for that statement since I have put only hand soap in the dispensers in the bathrooms. No one has mentioned this problem in this thread so I wonder if he was correct.

I will have hand soap in both the main sink and prep sink dispensers (with the Never MT - of course!) I keep the bottle of dish soap under the sink since I only use it maybe once a day - I put almost everything in the dishwasher but I wash my hands several times a day.

I will have hand soap(dial) in my dispenser. I would use it more often than dish soap. Now I am wondering if I should have had 4 holes drilled so I can use both.

Re what Carolemed said, when my plumber installed mine he put my dishsoap in it (I always did use it for my hands in the kitchen since it's mild and unscented), so it might depend on what kind of dishsoap you use.

I love my Never MT. We built a new house and put one in each bathroom, where I use hand soap(softsoap) and in the kitchen where I use dish soap. The only problem I've had is that in one bathroom, I had to replace the Never MT...it leaked at the valve. This has happened twice. But it's still worth it. Actually the first one was replaced by the manufacturer after 6 months use.

Hand soap - never even thought of putting dish liquid in it. Thanks for stretching my paradigm.

in the kitchen I use dish soap, I mix soap and water so it doesn't clog. more water than soap works well. maybe 1/4 soap to 3/4 water. been doing that for years and no issues.

I think Michael Butler broke the record for resurrecting the oldest thread. Some threads that people resurrect have a few updates in the ensuing years. But this one hasn’t been seen since 2007. 13-year-old thread!

Maybe he's one of those who come back and edit their post to add something?
