I'm bored with my dark galley kitchen!
Comments (39)I have put area rugs in a kitchen to give it more personality. Would be really cheap option and you cannot wreck wool in my experience! Your kitchen is so neutral you could do almost anything - a colorful kilim, a funky color animal print, or a rich traditional Persian - what ever appeals to you but maybe a little more out of your comfort zone than you'd commit to in cabinets etc. 3x5 or 5x7 or ? Depending on dimensions - centered bt your banks of cabinets....See More1960's Small Galley Kitchen Remodeled: BEFORE and AFTER
Comments (48)(4027chemawa): The kitchen, including the dining area, and the window treatment too, and new back entrance door, paint (walls and trim), cabinets, hardware, all appliances, backsplash, flooring came to right around $22,000. (This is NE Ohio). (goatpro): Regarding the photos posted at the top: Photos 1 & 2 were taken standing in the hallway looking into the kitchen, photos 3 & 4 were taken standing in front of the window looking back towards the hallway. In the renovation the refrigerator and stove were switched, so maybe that is what looks a little confusing -- those two appliances are now in just the opposite sides of where they were 'before'....See MoreMid Century Galley Kitchen - Retrofit or Replace?
Comments (47)Speaking just in terms of light and not environmental factors, I think they both have their place. With lower ceilings or retro styling, I think fluorescent often preferable. I love LED, which can also be similarly warm BTW, but think they can drive some people insane- I once had a realtor flip an LED switch on and off several times. I switched it back on as she yelled, 'It's broken, I said' for 15ish seconds, followed by an uncomfortable silence as she realized the lights had come up to full - so they may not be for everyone. When budget is tight, I weigh both style ( fluorescent fixtures tend to be cheaper) and cost/availability of replacement bulbs before pulling the trigger. You get a warmer, more diffused light w fluorescent, but shorter lifespan in areas where they are switched often, rather than left on, so there is sometimes a trade off to take into account. And that kind of ambiance to me may mean nothing to others - in which case, LED for general lighting!...See More1927 Spanish home- keep kitchen galley or open up? Confused
Comments (7)We are enjoying our home very much and would choose to stay forever, but we are both working in television and are always aware that we have no job security should our current shows get cancelled so we have to be ready to throw it up on the market if we ever need to. There is no wet bar in the archway but there is a cubby with a light for a small piece of artwork now. I believe it used to be a telephone nook or something......See Moreboxerpups
