Will a 30'' Blanco Silgranit sink fit in a 32'' base cabinet?

16 years ago

The sink I'm wondering about is this one, the Blanco America Blancoprecis 440149 (513-412). On the website it says it needs a 33" base cabinet, but the outside dimension of the sink is 30". So, I'm wondering if it would really fit in a 32" base cabinet?

    The Blanco site says the inside dimension is 30'', and the outside dimension is 32''. So this sink won't fit in a 32'' cabinet.

    Ah, okay, thanks for the info. I guess it's a typo on the Home and Stone site saying that it is 30" on the outside. Unless I'm looking in the wrong places, I'm guessing that a 30" or so Silgranit sink that would fit in a 32" base cabinet does not exist...

    This double bowl one might.

    Thanks for pointing that one out. It does look like it might work. Now, I just need to weigh how much I want a single basin vs. double.

    It depends.

    If this is an undermount AND
    you know the interior dimensions of the sink base(a) AND
    you can find a drawing of the silgranit sink showing the outer dimensions of the BOWL (b) - or ask if someone can measure it for you AND
    if (a) > (b) then

    it most likely can fit - possibly with a little trimming of the top of the sink base - so the lip around the bowl is flush with the top of the cabinet.

    You might also check front to back inside the cabinet and the position of your faucet, subtracting for any obstacles -like a window sill - that project from the wall and the thickness of backsplash material. Sometimes, both the sink and the faucet can't fit and sometimes the sink and faucet can fit, but you can't use the handles.

    Are you sure you have a 32" sink cabinet? Stock and semi custom cabinet lines come in 3" increments. So, a 30" or a 33" sink base would be possible, but not a 32" one.

    Our cabinets are custom, but I put a call into our cabinet shop to verify that it's 32" instead of 33" though. They're still in the process of being made.

    bmorepanic - That's good info to know. Maybe it could work afterall. I'm going to visit with our cabinet guy and see what he says. Thanks!

    You can investigate if you can modify the cabinet to accommodate the sink. Often, there's enough clearance for slightly oversized components. Also, check what's in the adjacent cabinets--drawers tend to be much smaller than the cavities they're designed to fit into. Our 36" cooktop didn't quite fit into our 36" base cabinet, but with a bit of precise sawing, it did. Another modification to the base cabinet drawer structure also allowed us to put in two more drawers, directly under the cooktop (where I was originally going to put in blanks)!

    Thanks, Studio. That makes me hopeful that it will work.:-)
