Resin versus acrylic free standing tub

I have found 2 similar tubs 71-72 inches - resin by Signature Hardware (Winifred) or acrylic Hydrosystems (Picasso). They are close to same price but the Signature Hardware brand is made of resin, not acrylic. Does anyone know which material is superior and why? Any feedback re mfrs Hydrosystems and Signature Hardware?

320386 p/n Signature Hardware Winifred $3,195 (acrylic)
HPIC7240A p/n Hydrosystems Picasso $3,731 (resin)

Which one did you buy? Did you sit in it before you bought it. Comfort is my number one priority since the tub is my favorite place. Also, where is the drain located on yours?

I just noticed that the summary I typed was incorrect (the part in parenthesis). The signature hardware is RESIN and the Picasso Hydrosystems is acrylic.

Wow, nice! Are there seams at the bottom of the resin or is it made from a 1 piece mold?

Resin with its' higher mass will take more hot water to preheat if you don't run a recycle line with a heater. When I do tubs in a wet room bath ( floor drains) I use the tub drain to take the water off the bottom and into a loop with an inline heater dropping the re heated into the ceiling supply back into the foot of the tub. A diverter on that loop allows you to drain the tub on the floor when your finished. A y branch on the supply allows it to be used for fresh water and or recycled water. I've used the tub overflow for the re heated water as an alternative. This also allows the tub to be filled to the top. Remember in a wet room bath overflow goes to the floor to drain.

Has anyone done a repair on resin? If so, how? It is a chip that has to be filled. Signature Hardware does not offer a repair kit, said to get it from Chemical Concepts. Had my tub repair company out, but they've ever worked with the material. Client purchased the tub and it has been the bane of my existence on this project. Thanks for any help!

calikym, did you ever decide between these two tubs? I have my eyes on these two models. I've sat in the Picasso and it was super comfortable. But haven't seen the other in a showroom.

Resin is much better than acrylic, firstly resin materials have two kinds of products, another one called solid surface bathtub, of course, this kind of product has too many names in the market, pure acrylic freestanding bathtub like solid surface bathtub (corian bathtub ) and resin bathtub (stone resin bathtub ), someone also called them like"man-made stone bathtub ","artificial stone bathtub ","cast stone bathtub ", "pure acrylic solid surface bathtub ", "stone composite bathtub ","quartz composite bathtub ", "bathtub freestanding ", "soaking bathtub", "stone composite bath", "ceramilux bathtub", "lithocast bathtub", "soaking tub " etc..

Solid surface bathtub (corian bathtub) also includes resin materials, but solid surface can give a lifetime of maintenance-free and durable beauty. The advantage of solid surface bathtub is non-porous and anti-stain, and the joint of solid surface is seamless, so it is very beautiful and top high quality.

Moreover, the solid surface bathtub doesn't require special maintenance, if solid surface bathtub is damaged or scratched, it is very easy and inexpensive to mend by polishing.

Compare to normal acrylic bathtub, the pure acrylic solid surface bathtub without any joint at the surface, and it’s completely solid (one picece) & heavy not hollow & light like acrylic bathtub, what’s more, you can rub ove the the surface of the scratch to be smooth easily because of the same colour & same materials from inner to outside, and it is available in over 100 colors and patterns, beautiful and popular design, the most important is you can use the pure acrylic solid surface bathtub more than 20 years, 30 years, even more longer, it is still like a new one. For its beautiful and top high quality, that's why it is worth for investment.

More details, here we introduce two kinds of raw materials as follows:

    1. Components of Solid Surface Bathtub (Matte finish):

Aluminum Hydroxide Powder, Acrylic Resin, Quartz and Pigment.

    2. Components of Resin Bathtub (Glossy finish):

Calcium Carbonate Power, Unsaturated Polyester Resin,Quartz, Hardener and Gelcoat.

As with most higher quality material choices cost is a significant factor. For those who don't care about $. You have to hunt the deals or make the cost efficient selection
