I love butcher block counters, but have only had them in an eating bar

Purchasing a house, new to us...has Formica kitchen counters and I would like to replace them with butcher block counters in the kitchen. Trying to create a casual relaxed look. I am not into Granite or Corian counters. This is an older (1993) typical rambler and we are trying to make it casual and comfortable. Thanks for reading this query and thanks for answering.

You would want to take care in not allowing standing water to sit on surface as well as recommended oiling to help protect the top.

It's is a beautiful counter top! Is it oiled or varnished? Never set hot things on it that's for sure. I know too, to wash with soap and water. Use white vinegar as a bacteria killer. Harsher chemicals will not be good for the wood.

You CAN set hot things on a wood countertop by DeVos Custom Woodworking. Both our oil finish and our Waterlox finish are heat resistant and water proof when maintained properly. I take pots out of a 400 degree oven and set on these tops all the time. My tung-oil/citrus finished countertops and my Waterlox finished island still look great after 3 years of hard daily use.
