Oct. 5, 2008 - What is everyone working on?

As it usually happens, the Guild Quilt Show gets me "itchin' to stitch!" This week I have been working on 2 projects:

~ a 9-patch scrappy baby quilt quilt from my Marsha McCloskey book - today I'm sewing the rows already! Baby is due in December, I think.

~ practicing sashiko Japanese embroidery; I love the stitch designs and it is pretty easy, just a running stitch; a vendor at our show had all I needed to get started, thread, needles, printed panel and I ordered a used book on sashiko from Amazon.

Next up, another Bubble quilt to put in my Etsy shop and maybe a top for me with sashiko trim - then there are quite a few UFOs too.

So, what are you currently working on? Items for holiday giving, bags, baby gifts, special quilts?

Teresa

Isn't this a lovely design combining quilting and sashiko?

Teresa, After you learn this technique, maybe you could do an online class for the rest of us??????? It looks really interesting.

Today I'm working on the Boston Terrier. It's ready to applique, so I might just take it with me and do it up north. I also have a tablerunner and a topper ready for the backing, but I'll probably end up taking them with me and completing there, too. Rosa got me started on doing some dishtowel toppers so I've been working on those....one more and I'll have 4 ready for the Christmas pile. My next order of business is to get some Sunbonnet Sue fabric in a baggie for applique as I have a couple ideas for her activities.

I'm still ticking off the SBS blocks. Some a real challenge. So much sitting here that I'll dream up an alternative soon.

I am working on table runners and have gotten about three of them done. I will post the pictures when I get a chance.

Our guild has a challenge due in March that I am working on. The challenge is to take one block, make it into two different sizes and make it into a quilt...been tossing ideas around and think it will be a fun project to work on.

STill working on my great nephew's "Walk in the Woods" quilt. The blocks are all done and the top is almost all pieced. I could finish it tonight but probably won't! While working in the garden yesterday morning I was rewarded with a wasp sting and my right hand is HUGE. I think I'll leave the quilting for another night when I can hang on to the fabric a little better.

I'm mentally working on my Christmas buffet runner but haven't decided on a pattern yet. Does that count?

I have too many irons in the fire, as usual....but I'm still feeling good about them. I have the God's Eye quilt, still draped over a mattress from a year ago. LOL. It needs one more row of blocks, or perhaps a wide border would work. It's an early effort and it shows that. I plan on using it to cover a single bed in our downstairs bedroom, and the cats use it for their sofa so I'm not too concerned about them ruining it.

My g'son's raggedy denim quilt could have been finished a month ago. I just got tired of dealing with heavy denim (X-ray apron, lol) and my hands were really hurting from an arthritis flare up. I have just two rows to do, out of a gazillion already done. Most of them are attached, but I need to snip them and sew on the sides. One good day's effort and it could be hanging on a clothesline, finished.

I've said before how much I enjoy the block lotto each month, as it gives me a chance to test run a pattern before obliging myself to it. I really enjoyed doing the Crazy Quilt pattern, and the flip and sew seems to come easy to me. I spied my scrap basket, and it was just overflowing with every size and description of pieces really too small for anything other than accents and I started playing around with a CQ block. Bam.......the bug bit me. In three days, I have sixteen 10" blocks done, just working about two hours a day. I haven't gotten tired of them yet, so hope to get enough made for a tied quilt for my G'daughter's Christmas gift. That way I will have a quilt for each of my G'children.

I worked on the DWR again today. DD got married last weekend and at the rate I am going, it will be an anniversary gift next year. We are puppy sitting while the newly weds are in Jamaica. They are getting home later tonight but we are keeping the dog till next weekend when we will drive down to Columbus for the weekend. My Uncle John died on Friday and the funeral is Wednesday in Indiana. I have to work each day plus I am co-chair of the cooking committee for Rotary Club this month. That means Monday and Tuesday will be busy days each week in October.

I'm working on stitching the multi-colored binding on a disappearing nine-patch. I hope to have pictures tomorrow. I do love my multi-colored bindings!

So do we! Doing that had never even crossed my mind until I saw some pics on this forum.

I made my lotto blocks this weekend and I went shopping to pick up some floss to tie a quilt but didn't get to it today. We went apple picking and then made apple pies. Spend a lot of time just with the family and that's a good thing.

I have SO many projects waiting for me and I need to get busy!

I am going to finish my scrapbook of my trip to New York way last summer and then need to get on the ball with the last three bday blocks. I also plan to search for novelty fabrics for a baby quilt for a new nephew who is due in early January. Those projects should take me until the end of the year. deanna

While on vac. I found the fabric to finished the stacked 4 patch so finished putting boarders on that yesterday. Batting came in the post so I sandwiched my DD Shadow play quilt in the afternoon and plan on starting the quilting on that this week. When that is done I have a sm. Voorom quilt for another GGson ready to sandwich and quilt. I will then get the stacked 4 patch sandwiched and quilted.
In between I am working on my Nov. "Just for me" block. I have a "very hungrey catapiller" waiting in the wings but wont allow myself to touch it until I get these others done. Ofcourse there are the UFO's but they have been there for a while and don't seem to mind.

LOL, Jayne! That's what I going to tell myself from now on:
"those UFOs don't mind me putting them off awhile!"

    Thanks! Teresa

I'm trying to find "the Perfect" fabric for a border for a quilt I started 2 years ago ... Sure wish I had done that when I started it! Sewed some of the scraps from the Oct. lotto block into HSTs and made a potholder from the leftovers! Actually finished & mailed my lotto blocks!

Kate - I am so sorry about the wasp sting! I got zapped a couple weeks ago (twice by the same rotten wasp) on my face & after going to the doc ended up missing 2 days of work. I never knew I was allergic! I've been picking raspberries and freezing them today.

Guild meeting is Thursday - can hardly wait! We're going to the hospital to see one of our member's giant applique quilt she made & donated to the children's ward.

Anxiously awaiting word on nephew's wife who is expecting baby - they are at hospital tonight (2 weeks early). She has been on bedrest since July so we are thrilled she has made it this long! Need to finish up quilt & get it in the mail!

Need to stop looking at all the beautiful quilts everyone else is doing & get busy working on my own!!! Guess I'm following in Kate's footsteps ... mentally working on the pattern! lol!

We love football and I plan to make atleast 4 other pillows for my kids and friends. All different teams of course :)

The quilt I am sewing the binding on now is counted cross stitch squares also. 9 different flowers with names, burgandy border & backing and a cream binding. I hand sew all the binding on and hand tie them.

No fair just posting but no pictures! I am new to this forum and I want to see everything LOL I have plenty to work on right now but I am always looking for new idea's. The butter fly one is very pretty - Ditto on giving us lessons !

That fabric will work up into a beautiful quilt, can hardly wait to see how you will be doing it. Besure to keep us informed on your progress.
Sounds like everyone is keeping busy.
